I've been to my fair share of thrift stores/consignment shops over the years. But of all the various independent businesses as well as the more well known businesses (Goodwill, Salvation Army, etc.), I will say that "Superior Thrift" is just that, superior! Located in the heart of Stockton and at the corner of N. Wilson Way and adjacent to Pinchot St., this is the #1 thrift store in Stockton that has served its customers for many decades. Since it was my first time going here, several thoughts crossed my mind; curiosity, eagerness, and a ton of hidden gems that I knew I would take home. For starters, this place is HUGE as it takes up a whole city block; and definitely one of the larger thrift stores I have been to. Parking can be a real challenge as the lot only offers so many spots for the customers. During my visit which was on the afternoon of Saturday 6/6/26 at around 3:30pm, I was fortunate to snag a parking spot as someone was leaving. However, if you come during the non-peak times, you should be just fine. Hours of operation are Monday-Saturday from 10am-6pm while being closed on Sunday and the 2 major holidays (Thanksgiving & Christmas Day). As for their apparel selection, they offer a huge assortment of men's, women's, and children's clothing. This includes tees, polos, dress shirts, suits, dresses, jeans, slacks, shorts, skirts, shoes, hats, outerwear, athletic attire, swimwear, and much more. They also offer a very nice variety of books, accessories, electronics, CDs/DVDs, furniture, antiques, vintage items, handbags/purses, glassware, pictures/frames, artificial plants, toys, and a ton more stuff that is sold at very fair prices. Which brings me to this question... how are the deals at Superior Thrift? Let me say this to everyone reading this review.. I live in the Sacramento area and it is worth the hour or so drive coming here. During our visit, I picked up several shirts, a pair of shorts, and several books, all at reasonable prices. The shirts were only in the $3-5 range while my near-new shorts were at $6. My lady also bought several blazers (for work) and she only spent around $4 for each one! And if that's not all, they offer select 25% discount days; Tuesday for seniors (55+), Wednesday for salute to service, Friday for social media shoppers, and Saturday for student/teachers. And if it is your birthday, you qualify for a 30% discount. Now that's what's up! All in all, "Superior Thrift Store" is as good as it gets when it comes to a quality thrift store. Amazing prices, friendly staff, huge variety/selection, and an overall pleasant shopping experience. Many other places should take note of this; especially since a lot of people (including myself) have jumped on the thrifting bandwagon. I used to come here years ago and thought let me check it out for some furniture pieces . I have a baby who was sleeping so i brought in my stroller and the security guard told me I'm not allowed in with a stroller. I asked to talk to the manager because i literally was only interested in big furniture pieces. They denied me entry and said it's the store owners policy. I wish i saw the other review before driving and taking my kid out the car seat just to be denied entry for having a stroller!!!! This policy will lose you lots of business. read more

Have shopped here before and recently switched my handbags. Same size as my old one but now it's "too big." It's small enough to shove under an airline seat so it's not that large. But unless I wanted to leave it in my car (and potentially get stolen) I could not patronize this business. I offered to let them look in it when I left (compromise?) but the answer was leave it in the car or leave myself. I politely left stating I was sad that I won't be able to shop here any longer. Sad that I won't be shopping here again. Maybe policies can be reviewed so people can shop with their personal belongings on them? read more

Iv been going to this place for years. Love it, everything's cheap and easy to navigate. Customer service is good and quite clean for an old place. I'd say this if I had to say something negative. They need to learn to price electronics and video games better. Not sure if that's where they make more of their money but it's a tad to high.. Great store with a constantly rotating inventory of both vintage goods as well as interesting modern pieces that are priced fair. This is a slightly pricier store than most but I feel it's worth it based on selection and quality. I usually find great art pieces here. Worth a visit. read more

I've been thrifting for 20 years and always trying to find diff stores to check out. Me and my husband found some quality items at a discounted price. Upon arriving the parking lot was almost full and the place is huge. Very clean, organized store with helpful employees that don't look like their miserable. Only downside is I couldn't get the 30% discount on Friday's because you have to check in on FB to get the discount. We don't have social media so it should be an option to check in on YELP also. All though the daily discount is gone, with all thrift stores in town increasing their prices, you can still find really good deals here!! They have different discount days throughout the week!! This is still and will always be my favorite thrift store! I've found soooooo much good stuff here, from Harry Potter track jackets, to bags, endless tops, kids clothes, books, jackets, and household items. My boyfriend's daughter loves coming here and always leaves with multiple bags of clothes! They live in SoCal and always make it a point to come here when they're in town. I've never had a problem with staff. They're helpful and extremely nice. Extremely sad how customer service is these days! Don't buy clothes from Superior Thrift Store! You can no longer try on clothes and I was told, you have one week to return for your $ back. Well as I am on the phone, I guess it's 5 days, but then I was told they don't count Sundays so technically it's 6 days but because I purchase last Saturday (7days ago) I was told no I cannot return these items, then I asked to speak to a manager and then was told if you come now, I'll do it for you? But only give you store credit! Really!? The clothes don't fit me and now only offered store credit due to one day, becuase I work all week and I was unable to make it to the store before they close on the 6th day!! One item I purchased is $40, plus 3 pairs of pants! What is it to you rude manger that these clothes are returned and resold! Way too overpriced! This place use to be a fun place to thrift and find things at an affordable price. But unfortunately they are about making ridiculous profits over items that are donated for FREE to them. Whoever is pricing this is going based off eBay and stock x and all those reseller prices which sucks! They take advantage of the fact that there is not too many thrift stores in town since a few have closed down during COVID. I like coming here, simply because of the fact that every time you check out they ask you if you're using any coupons for today. During this visit I mentioned that I was a day late for the Facebook sale that they were having yesterday. I was banned, on January 27, 2024...for what reason? I moved to Stockton about 8 years ago, and I would patronize Superior Thrift, along with others in the area. The only one I had an issue with was Superior Thrift. When I asked the manager/supervisor, why I was banned, she told me a fabrication, which I won't put here, which leads me to believe, that she has, I hate to say it, some mental issue. Aptly named Superior Thrift is in the running for best thrift in San Joaquin County. It's enormous and carries a pretty solid amount of toys, housewares, electronics, and other things besides clothes (which it also has a lot of). This place is not a secret, so it can get very crowded on a Saturday afternoon, especially as aisles are narrow. I'm planning on doing a weekday morning trip later in the year so I can concentrate on the clothing aisles, as it looks like they carry a better selection of plus sizes and office-esque attire than anywhere in Modesto. Superior used to have one of the two best toy sections in northern California; it's down a lot lately, but so is everywhere else. So if you're looking for used toys, definitely worth checking. They still do a fairly inspiring job with the tchotkes up front. There is a ton of parking, with two lots -- one beside the store and the other across a side street. read more

Update: Monday, 9/14. At 9:45am, I called the store to speak to a supervisor about what happened because I wanted to make sure there was one there in case I tried to do a walk-in and was stopped at the door and told aggressively that I wasn't welcomed by the same security or one of the 2 employees and waste my time making the trip thinking I could resolve what happened. The supervisor I spoke with, Darlene, listened to what I had to say and told me that after reviewing the information I provided, the Store Manager and herself concluded that I did NOT indeed, receive the discount and apologized for my experience. She told me that I am welcomed to go in anytime I am available so she could apologize on behalf of the staff in person and give me a $25 gift card. I wanted to know if it was still possible to return the original 6 items I didn't want and if I HAD to return all the items; I don't mind that also because I had not touched the items due to what happened. She told me to go ahead and bring in the items I didn't want and that she would be there at the door greeting the customers at 10. She also mentioned that they will talk with the employees from the incidents and ensure that this kind of situation doesn't happen again. I went in some time after 10 and entrance was easy because the security (different one) seemed to be aware of the situation already. He called Darlene to the counter immediately and she made sure to apologize first and then proceeded to refund the 6 items I brought in (I actually brought all 12 of them in just in case). When I had questions about the process of one of the items, she explained clearly why (the full priced item) and showed me step by step what she did to make sure there were no errors/confusion/questions. She also made sure she gave me the $25 gift card and asked me about myself (I recently moved back here after years to be with family/job/old friends). Then she told me that I could even shop now if I wanted to and that I needed to be aware that I am welcomed in the store anytime. I told her that I'm not sure I am comfortable coming back in after what happened at least for awhile, if at all. She said she understood if she had been in the same situation also and it seemed that I was traumatized and I don't disagree. Then she asked me why I thought the employees treated me that way since they weren't there for her to ask and I said I honestly don't know, it's not like I was dramatic or uncooperative. And I continued saying that they could go back and look at the cameras, I told the specific times I was there and unfortunately, she told me the cameras only operate for 24 hours then erases so there is no actual proof of what happened. Darlene apologized again on behalf of the staff and the Store Manager towards me and my family and told me I could take the shortcut entrance to exit on my way out if I wanted to. When I returned home, I checked my email and saw that I had received a prompt reply early this morning even before I decided to call the store myself, to come in to be helped by Darlene also. As a customer, I truly appreciate the extra effort they put in to make up for the horrible experience from their employees. I truly hope the employees reflect on their behaviors and clean up their act or consider a different job or line of profession because that was no way to treat customers and if you don't know how to deal with simple situations or customers in a proper professional manner, then don't work in a place that you would have to "deal" with customers at all. Even though I really do appreciate the efforts to correct the wrong, I don't think myself or family will be returning anytime soon and make sure that friends and family are aware that such situations had occurred and be cautious because it may happen to them also if they choose to shop at this store because of specific employees. read more

4.5 stars by far my favorite thrift store in San Joaquin county. You can find some great deals on holiday decorations and random misc. Clothes atleast for me is hit and miss. Kids clothes I've faired a lot better. They have great specials and/or discounts. Have ordered things online for next to nothing prices and pick up in store is always a breeze. They actually have a decent selection of furniture which is rare for thrift stores. There is a markdown rack for clothes, which were all 1.99. Monday all markdown items are an additional 20% off. I have been driving the 40 miles to Superior Thrift twice a year, for 20 years...it is my Mecca! I can't imagine life without Superior. I always went on Thursdays, for my teacher discount. On my last pilgrimage, I bought a soft as butter Italian leather motorcycle jacket in a groovy grape shade. It was lined with a delicious patterned silk. It had to have gone for 100s of $ or more likely Euros. But for me...a splurge of $11. So I bought the jacket just for my Elton John concert outfit, and ended up wearing it all the time, looking like a 1970's Jerry Hall...like I stepped straight outta Vogue... Then there was the time I found the plush white terry robe with the Newman Marcus label...WITH the original $168 tag...and a $12 Superior Tag that literally knocked the breath out of me! At Superior, there is always the hope of running into Serena...in those hallowed aisles of Nárnia... If someone set a private eye on my trail, and he found his way into my closet... One might hear him whistling through his teeth..., whispering, "Damn... This is one wealthy Dame." And it all comes from Superior! Like I said, I am a teacher, and I am straight and sober...but when I walk out of Superior, with my treasures in the bag...I'm so high on the shopping, that I would flunk a drug test... Just thinking about shopping there stimulates my endorphins... To me, a perfect day is a morning at Superior, followed by lunch at Mannys, then the drive home, so I can start removing tags, and looking up my treasures on the internet, to see the original retail price... A reason to get excited to go to Stockton! Stuff is reasonably price and the volume is so nuts you are going to find something cool. You always do. Superior thrift starts accepting donations at 8am on the back side of their store. Just pull up, ring the bell and someone will kindly help serve you. Super quick and easy. Visiting Superior Thrift is a fun experience up until you have to use their bathroom. My suggestion is that you plan ahead. DO NOT USE THE BATHROOM! It's makes a gas station bathroom look pristine. The grime, dirt and filth is ground into the floor, the door and in and around the sink. It's horrible. I don't understand why there is no focus or attention on maintaining the bathroom in a reasonably clean fashion. I only attached the one view because I didn't want to further gross out those that may stumble across this review. This is a vendor with a list of rules the size of a paperback novel, including no strollers, hoodies, backpacks, or bags. I think there's also a no sunglasses rule, and of course no big hats, not referring to sombrero grande, but maybe a Stetson. There's a two-bicycle rack on the premises, a good bike will be stolen during an insider heist. A third bike has to park off-site and subject to theft by low-life residents. Ride a cheap or already-stolen bike, or drive a car with no valuables inside. Again, an insider job will get your car broken into, especially in the auxiliary lot. Pay cash, do not trust this store with your credit card number. Alas, this thrift store now specializes in used or battered women's clothing. It used to be a good venue for CDs, DVDs, LPs, books, and electronics, but women's attire apparently is the big seller nowadays. Donation rules are equally absurd. Very specific hours and you have to wait for some dude to open the gate; meanwhile, the rude security guard is yelling at you to move your car. Not much more to say other than this place is great, and the staff is always so friendly!
