Heat and serve food has gone down.

One of the not so nice Mariano's I've encountered. Comparing this place to Vernon Hills location, it definitely is sub par. Sometimes they will have 1-2 register open on a weekend, and self check out is closed. Corporate has been notified.

No single bread in the baskets and out of the one we came for.

Every time we go shopping on the weekend the store is out of everything we need. The produce section is decimated, the produce that is there are the ones no one wants and there seems to be no restocking. You have to go at 6am in Saturday morning or there's nothing left. Typically we try to go early Saturdays but the last couple of months since the weather has been nice we've had other plans, so we've been going early (like 7-8am) Sunday mornings and there's NOTHING. We moved here from out of state a year and a half ago and we love the selection they do have when it's there, but we would like the option to go grocery shopping on either Saturday OR Sunday mornings. Hopefully they get it together. Another thing that I'm not thrilled about are some of the staff... the deli department always seems pretty unfriendly, with the exception of a few people and there is a young blonde girl who works in the coffee area who has no manners or customer service, she's been quite rude a few times. I'll update with her name once I get it, but for management she was working this morning (5/12/19) and has a blonde ponytail and is probably about 17-19. Someone should talk to her about her overall attitude/customer service and facial expressions when assisting people. All I want is a nice place to shop with options, maybe we will be going back to Jewel.

Pretty disappointed in their fresh popped popcorn. I decided to give their $3 kettle corn a try. It looks delicious but boy was I wrong. There was a lot where it was super salty. Yuck! And some were burnt. Totally ruined my desire to munch on these. Now it's just sitting on the kitchen counter hoping someone else will eat it... Aka BF... (Doc's Popcorn in Gurnee Mills isnt bad!) Besides their waaay too salted popcorn, I still frequent marianos because of the good variety of foods they carry. I would use to buy their muffins / pastry at the vernon hills location since they make it fresh there. But I have a feeling the gurnee location gets theirs delivered from vernon hills so sometimes even tho the sell by date is still good, the pasty in it isn't.... So be careful when getting those! Its always a bummer bringing home delicious looking pastry only to know that after the first bite, its been sitting in the store for awhile... blah! Their hot foods selection is great too if you want something quick to eat. They also have OK sushi. Two things always get when I'm there is their fresh squeezed orange juice and their ROUNDYS brand organic milk! Tastes so much better than the brands you find at jewel or Walmart. The employees are pretty friendly and helpful. Makes shopping there so much more pleasant! =)

Pretty good selection of imported foods

Lewis Fresh Market certainly isn't one of those cramped little stores. Has a lot of produce and other items. The prices aren't the best but they're pretty comparable to other places. Best thing is the produce because it's all fresh. It's comparable to the Cermak Fresh Markets. There's a lot of Mexican and other Latino stuff in here along with some other countries too. Has quite a lot to go through so you can find many good items. There's a grill to order tacos and tortas. Also there's a hot bar and salad bar. Other popular areas include the bakery where they cut fresh loaves. Has even more produce outside, especially when they have pumpkins in autumn. The prices are okay for being fresh. For sure we could go here again if in the area. It's got a couple locations, including this one on Grand. The produce is considered to be the best stuff.

This Walmart was suspiciously clean and almost too organized, like someone summoned it straight out of a suburban dream. Jaime in electronics was very nice and helpful and the night crew shuffled around w pallets like retail workhorses waiting for dawn. The real win here.... (shhh... its a secret) No 10-cent plastic bag tax (like in Cali)!! Sweet, sweet Midwestern freedom!!! THAT ALONE made us so excited!! Another plus was how empty the store was during business hours... not very much traffic, which was nice!! The parking lot, though... eerily empty!!!!!!!!! The kind of quiet that makes you wonder if the town's residents only come out after sunset. A perfect stop for restocking your mortal supplies before the vampires wake.

I have visited the Supercenters in Niles, Lake Zurich, Palatine, Waukegan, Wheeling, and this one in Gurnee. My favorite one is the Lake Zurich one followed by the Niles one. It…read morewas in very early spring, or maybe it was early summer actually, and there were very few vendors there. So my next visit wasn't until the summer and boy what a difference. Once the summer kicks in, there is quite a variety to choose from. The produce itself can be really really good or really underwhelming. Sometimes it is hit or miss. The other things of the farmers market, like Lesters Bison and Nana's Rum Cakes and Wildflower Bakery and the wine tastings they have really help to balance out all of those nutritious fruits and vegetables-makes it worth it. It's all about balance, right? ha ha One of my friends turned me onto the Lesters Bison vendor, and I will say if you're trying to cut back on fat and calories and cholesterol, this is the way to go. So now instead of using ground beef, I try and pick up some ground bison. We also tried the bison patties already formed and they were really great. We weren't sure what to expect but I kid you not, very flavorful and juicy. If this was regular ground beef and it was that thin, it would have been dull, tasteless and dry- the difference was very surprising. They also have tons of cuts of steak (ribeye was of course delish), and other choices like elk, etc. Let me just say this for the record: get your ass to Nana's Rum Cakes! You will not regret this. This is rum cake on a whole nother level. The couple that sells them, one of which is Nana, is charming, delightful. And I love supporting local business, but the spectacular taste of these rum cakes is what keeps you going back. I'm an addict for life now. I like the plain-vanilla or the plain-vanilla with nuts, but my husband is a drag and doesn't like the nuts, hehe, so I sacrifice for him. ha ha While the chocolate rum cake was okay, we both agreed it was not as special. But the plain-vanilla and with nuts is not to be missed. The market is especially lovely in the late summer or early fall. Two days ago it was just gorgeous. And there are a lot of vendors to choose from. You can go to their website and see which vendors will be there which week. It's very user friendly. Summer hours are 3-7 on Wednesdays, but they are soon switching for the new fall schedule which is on Saturday (mornings, I believe?), so hit up the website for hours. Why aren't you there yet?? Nana's waiting for you; don't disappoint Nana, people.

In the summer, the market is on Wednesdays from 3-7pm, and this past winter was the first ever winter market, approximately one Saturday per month. The summer market seems to get bigger every year. There is, of course, lots of local produce and flowers, but there are also baked goods, candy, pasta, cheese, meat, fish, snack food, honey, soap, olive oil, tea, wine, as well as food vendors selling snacks to be eaten at the market. The winter market, despite the cold/snow and being much smaller than the summer market, was surprisingly good for its first attempt. There was a good sampling of the above vendors, minus the produce. I give the vendors that stuck it out in the cold a lot of credit! And now, for some of my personal favorite market vendors: -peaches and berries from the fruit vendor from Michigan -the cheese vendor from Wisconsin -the organic produce vendor from nearby Prairie Crossing -all sorts of apple goodness from an orchard in Harvard -addicting snack mix from Gurnee -yummy toffee from Cynthia's Sweets in Grayslake -baked goods (especially the olive rosemary bread and cinnamon buns) from Wild Flour Bakery in Milwaukee -pasta from Pasta Sue (especially the gnocchi) *and my most favorite: traditional French pastries made by a religious order of French sisters in Chicago. The nuns spend hours in the hot afternoon sun in full habit selling the pastries to help fund their charity work in Chicago. They are lovely, generous, and excellent bakers!
