Wednesday taco platter special $5:
Travis Y.

A delightful surprise. On my way to Woodbury, saw a sign that states taco platter $4.99. I was hungry and can't say no to fresh taco. The restaurant is situated within the back of a grocery store. There are enough seats for 20 people, it's cute and a classic family run shop. Price: you can't go wrong with 3 tacos, rice and beans for $5. Simple ingredients prepared straight forward. The tortillas were made fresh since I saw a lady in the back grilled them in the back. It has a nice cheewy yet crunchy texture. The beef was marinated with salt, pepper, cilantro and lemon juice. The combination of onion, more cilantro, and the red and green sauce was sublime. I didn't eat the rice since I'm trying to stay away from the carbs. The best part of the meal was the bean. It's weird for me to conceptualize and get excited over beans. But yet, these beans had some great depth of flavors. You could taste the pork flavor, cumin, and oregano that has been soaked into the beans. It was good enough that I ordered an extra portion to go. Damm, it was good!!!! Life is strange sometimes; I've been disappointed on various occasions dining at high end establishments, yet only to be swept off my feet as something as simple as beans!!! If you're driving on east 94 in downtown St. Paul, get off the 7th exist and make your way to this gem!!!!

Beef tacos, delicious!

Love this place! Food is all very authentic Salvadoran food! Love the pupusas are amazing! I've also had and enjoyed very much the beans and rice, tacos, and not sure what they do to their refried beans, but they are to die for!!! Go check it out - LOVE IT!!!

Great value for money at the cafe. Little hole on the wall cafe that has affordable prizes. If you like Salvadoran food this and Mañana restaurant are food options.

Three taco meal to go.

Decided to check out this place based on the reviews. I ordered take out. The three taco meal was average. They were not shy on the meat for sure. The two taco sauce were flavorful. I decided to order two pupusas. Pork with cheese. It's my 1st time trying pupusas- I thought they were good. Although, i prefer the tacos. Customer service was okay. When we got there, two other customers jumped ahead of us as if we were not in line. We assumed they were regulars. The food took a bit to come out but since we were not in a rush we did not mind. Overall rating average.

Look how poorly they put the tacos together

Went for dollar tacos have never had an issue . They must have gotten a new cook because there tacos where terrible . Flavorless steak wasn't cooked . Tacos had more vegetables than meat . I feel sick . This place is terrible . After

I truly applaud what they've built. Now Kowalski's are all over the place. However. They are by far the most expensive grocery store in the Twin Cities. If that doesn't bother you then this is your place. The ambience is wonderful. The stores are beautiful. They have a Starbucks counter inside if you like coffee. They have quite a large deli. You can get an entire meal ready to go. I've tried these and they are quite nice. And they're not horribly priced. They have a large assortment of specialty items from pastries to candy to Kowalski branded just about anything. The service is spotty. Sometimes it's good and sometimes not so good. Sometimes you can stand at The deli counter for what seems forever while people go back-and-forth ignoring you. Other times they're very helpful. The parking lot is not very big compared to other stores so parking can be a problem. It just depends what time of day you go. They have an attached but separate liquor store for wines and spirits. It is a very nice shopping experience and they do have a lot of wonderful specialty items you won't find anywhere else. However, be prepared to pay the price. They've been around for something like 50 years so they must be doing something right.

I have purchased turkey a few times that has gone bad in my fridge before or immediately after the sell by date. I have a brand new fridge as well, so that can't be blamed. When you charge this much for turkey, it should at least last until the sell by date. I also don't appreciate how when you purchase a smoothie, they pour massive amounts of it down the drain when it doesn't fit into your cup. At least set those out as samples. I'm glad that non-members can shop here, though, because I really enjoyed walking around. They had an aisle with bulk goods in bins, which I don't often see around here. I was mostly there to check out the cheese selection, and what I found pleased me greatly. They had a nice variety of cheeses, including many top-level local makers. They also had diverse jams, honeys, and crackers to go along with cheese; those were arranged atop the cheese gondola and on a nearby shelf. Checkout was fast, the checker very welcoming and pleasant. I'd definitely visit this market and others in the chain if I come across them again.

But seriously. Should I really be that petty??? So I made a mental list of the pros and cons. Inexpensive flowers? Check! Decent selection of produce? Check! A frozen aisle of items that make you go hmmm? Check! Plus they do the occasional sampling of something and it usually pretty good. Also, they OWN the self branded kick ass condiment market. The fried onion in pepper oil? Wow! The elote dip for chips? Can't get that shit in my mouth fast enough! The green bottle of jalapeño cream sauce? I will drown my eggs with that stuff! Plus the people that work there are all pretty awesome while dealing with us, the general public, who are in the grand scheme of things pretty f'n irritating. Honestly there is more but you get the point. Not worth knocking a star just because parking can sometimes be difficult.

I've read that TJs all over pick places that have challenging parking but this one wins for the worst situation I've yet encountered at a TJs. Once we made it into the parking garage it was super easy to get inside and find what we needed. Overall this location is well stocked and had everything we needed. Upgrade the parking and this is a five star grocery store for me.

I love that all the people that work there are townies, and the cashiers are generally SSP Packer High School students. What is also outdated is the selection. The produce section is very small and the frozen/unhealthy foods sections are very large. The deli selection is also small and overpriced, in my opinion. I live close by, so have stopped in here on numerous occasions to pick up just one thing, and they often do not have it. Today, it was pita chips. Fucking pita chips. But they had plenty of Lay's Southern Biscuits and Gravy-flavored chips (GROSS). I would rather just wait until the weekend and go into downtown St. Paul to shop at the farmer's market. While customer service here is usually friendly, speed and efficiency are not their strong points. There will be one checkout open and three or four employees just milling around, even if the line is several people long. Sell more produce and less packaged, processed crap!
