I contacted Supreme Interiors regarding my over 25 year old sofa and love seat. I had tried to contact another business but they did not respond. I submitted photos and Joe gave me an estimate, I asked if I could stop by and discuss and they said yes. This is the sort of business that reminds me of why I love Oakland. Wonderful work, wonderful people, a family-owned business. I took them a very precious old rocker that I had let deteriorate: The runners had fallen off, the fabric was a mess. I also explained that my mother-in-law (now deceased) had nursed all four of her children in that chair and given it to me when I had mine so that I could carry on the tradition, which I happily did. So many precious memories in one chair, and I wanted to give it to my daughter, now grown, so she could carry on the family tradition for at least one more generation. Joe understood everything about that chair. It was perfect when I arrived to pick up my little rocker. They had rebuilt the seat (it had deteriorated to nothing but springs and a hint of padding) so that it's cozy and fabulous, rebuilt the wooden parts of the chair so that it's tight and solid, and reupholstered it perfectly. I was so happy. Then I got into an absolutely lovely conversation with Joe, and learned that he mentors Oakland high school students in the shop. He teaches them skills and gives them Joe time (a pretty wonderful thing, in my estimation.) The very best part of the whole experience was when Joe told me that two of the kids he mentors had worked on the chair. removing old nails and such! My mother-in-law would be so happy. Judy called the next day to say how disappointed she was that she wasn't there to see my facial expression when I picked up the chair! And now my little rocking chair that had such great associations has a new life and even more great associations because I took it in to Supreme Interiors. Thank you thank you, Joe and Judy! Joe did an amazing job reupholstering our 37 year old interior cushions for our sailboat. He was able to rejuvenate and save the foam from the original cushions while still making them as good as new which was a significant cost savings. He was very thoughtful in planning out the project and discussed in detail with us their recommendations. They recommended a high quality line of durable fabric and we found a pattern we love and looks fantastic in our classic boat. Our cushions are complicated shapes with sculpted lumbar and leg support and button details and Joe and his team were able to fit the new covers perfectly. High quality craftsmanship, fair prices, and great customer service. What more could you want! We had a super-large sofa that was in desperate need of cushion restoration. Six large down-filled cushions were "collapsed" and looking pathetic. Joe, the master upholsterer, brought our classic sofa back to life. He re-stuffed each cushion with a firm padding, repaired two broken zippers, and even successfully removed a glaring ink stain that had been there for years. Brought in four '50s chrome dining room chairs. Got a totally reasonable quote. Despite telling me they were a bit backed up and it could take a while to get the chairs done, Joe knocked 'em out and got them back to us in just a few days. I contracted with Supreme Interiors on 2/12/2015 to upholster my couch based on the 5 star reviews posted here. Imagine my dismay when I received the finished couch on March 5th. Please see photos posted above and draw your own conclusions. The quality of work preformed by Supreme is, in my mind, sub standard. I was assured upon dropping off the couch that they 'knew' everything about upholstery and fabric. A claim that is not evident in the workmanship of the couch returned. Supreme wanted to try to 'fix' the issues, not because the work is bad but because I was not 'happy'. But after being burned so badly I am not willing to take that chance. Since the couch needs to be re-done, I am in the process of getting professional feed back and quotes on completing this job. I am beyond sad that the great work this company seemed to do for others did not translate to my couch. What an expensive mess and a horrible hassle. read more

This place is amazing. OK, So I joined Yelp a couple of years ago because I was so frustrated with Apple. And now I have just gotten such amazing customer service, I have to quit my complaining ways and write a good review. Joe took a look at a couch that had been shredded by my puppy. Now I love my puppy, and the couch wasn't mine, so... I gotta fix the couch. Positive: The couch was a mess, and Supreme restored it, made it beautiful again, for a song. They not only know their business, they do great work like there is nothing to it. And along the way, Joe was a pleasure to work with, with old-school service by a human being that discussed the project, make jokes (about puppies) along the way, and was a genuine pleasure to spend time with. He not only made great work look easy, he made it kinda fun to handle this couch repair. Did i mention that the work was amazingly good, for an incredibly reasonable price? Most capable shop in Oakland. OK, the downside: It took me half an hour to find his shop. Use GPS, and ignore the directions, but keep looking at the map. You have to approach it from the south east, because one way streets and road construction. And take care: the most awful freeway wall on the whole planet towers over the shop, and because the way the wall curves, the shop is both invisible and isolated. The wall creates a crime haven that is very creepy- I have lived in Oakland for years, and I am not easily scared, and I would not consider going to the shop at night. Go during the day. Then you are safe, because Joe works hard to keep his space safe. A great guy in a tough town. read more

I brought in my large ottoman for reupholstering and it came back with a new lease on life! Joe and his team did an amazing job. They also produced two slip covers for the same ottoman. What I admire about Supreme Interiors is that they took back one of the slip covers after I requested a minor modification and they fixed it at no extra cost! Now that is SUPREME customer service. Wow. It's rare to find a true craftsman and one with so much history in the Oakland area. I did a random search for reuphostery services when I lost a debate with my husband over whether or not to just get rid of a chair with a huge rip in it. I took two 45 year old car seats into Joe for reupholstery. The end product was better than expected. They were disassembled and he out them together and rebuilt them from the ground up. Please note: It was really hard to find his shop. Google maps took me to a freeway entrance. There is a lot of poorly designed construction lanes which obfuscate the shop from common sightlines. I recommend going to Portwood and East 9th and finding the shop from there. I've been to a few shops for reupholstery in Oakland before and this was by far the best work at a reasonable rate and delivered on time. read more

You can't go wrong with Supreme Interiors. I have a 40 YO favorite leather wing-back chair that I ended up wanting to get reupholstered. It was go to cost Over $2500 for a new one that was less comfortable and lower to the ground. I have a bad back and needed the chair to be a little higher. Joe recommended a fabulous craftsman/antique restorer who for a couple of hundred, replaced the legs with higher ones! Total cost of ~$1500 got me a chair with new leather, cushion and springs I could not have purchased, since they don't make chairs today like they did 49 years ago! Joe just finished putting leather backs on two director chairs for me. I wish I could include a picture of them here. He did an excellent job. I have passed this shop for years coming down 880 and thought about using them, but figured it was too difficult to get to. Quite the contrary, it is as easy as easy gets. Mapquest or a good GPS will get you there with no problems. It was a pleasure working with the Joe, the owner. He is a solid guy who is very involved in the community. Anyone with an upholstery project should use Supreme. Not only was the work high quality, but to hear how Joe makes sleeping bags for the homeless pulled at my heartstrings. Why not do business with someone who has such a big heart. Joe and his team are amazing. I bought a used car and thought there was a leak including mold because of discolored carpet on the passenger side. Instead of pulling my carpet out, Joe suggested testing the car beforehand for leaks. Since they did not find a leak at all, this saved me hundreds of dollars. Not only this, Joe did not charge me for the favor. Joe's is one of the few interior shop which can report employees working for as long as 26 years in a business with lots of turnover. I had just happened onto a 22 year old 1990 miata with very low mileage. All used cars have some problems to work through and this one was no different. The rag top's rear window had begun to separate from all of that time spent sitting in a garage. Jow was just wonderful in helping to repair it very effectively where others wanted to replace the entire top at much higher cost.
