Don't go here. High prices, sloppy quality, bad service. We need a good resource like this in the East Bay;  this is not it. I never review anyone with a zero, but these folk worked hard to earn it. I was quoted $271 when the competition only wanted $190, but stupidly went with it because they were referred and i was already there. They showed me a stapler for $80. I found it for less than half elsewhere. I was told Friday, maybe Monday. Monday, no call, I called them. I was told Tuesday "for sure" Same thing happened Tuesday. Finally got the work on Wednesay. Again, I had to call, they never did. They also did not offer an apology for being 3 days late and not calling. Add insult to injury, the stapling job was sloppy quality.  It missed the right place about 1/3rd of the time and many staples were not flush.  I would have complained, but found it better to pay and leave, never to come back. Since I first wrote this I have one more serious complaint to add.  The first time the seat got wet, the cheap thread that they used gave way and it came unstitched. I hope that they either clean up their act or leave the business.  Unfortunately other people are probably being victimized because they are not warned away. read more

I have been looking to fix a car seat that with tears and the foam padding started to be unpleasant but couldn't find the right foam for it. So when I found this place and called they were quick to help. Stopped by and had the foam I needed within 10 minutes of talking to the guy there. I'm so happy someone recommended this place to me. I have just started doing upholstery as a hobby and they are so reasonable and so nice. I was looking for supplies online but everything was much more expensive, plus I didn't want a huge supply or have to wait two weeks for it to arrive. They do sell to professionals in bulk but they are happy to sell smaller amounts to hobbyists. It's not a store that you walk around. You go to the counter and tell them what you need and they bring it to you, so it's also a time saver. I don't know everything that they carry, but I will check with them first before I look anywhere else. I wish all shopping was this easy. read more

We just had 3 foam couch cushions replaced here, and I just wanted to give them a shout-out, as a lot of their reviews are older. Tony and his staff are courteous and they are knowledgeable. Their prices are fair, the turnaround time was very decent, and the results exceeded our expectations. They even saved the old batting for us so that we can use it for supplementing the back cushions. They actually improved the cushions from the Macy's originals, because they knew exactly how many inches of foam would be comfortable without being overly firm. I was looking forward to working with an independent local business for boat foam. Original timeline I was given was 1-2 days, a week later 1-2 days...Ultimately a month later after advance payment I came to pick up order he was actively working on. I was patient for my order because of the good price but he messed up the last foam for my order, offered no resolve, gave refund and refused to fix my order. If you want timely service and a quality job I don't recommend this business sadly. read more

Tony is an absolute sweetheart--one of those people who emanates warmth and honesty. This place is the cheapest upholstery place in the area by far! Give them a call for a quote if you need a job done. I did a DIY project of reupholstering a knock-off Eames Lounge Chair. I called five different places to get quotes, and the cheapest I got was about $650 for labor alone. Tony gave me a quote for $550, labor and materials included. WHOA what a deal! But since that's still a lot of money for me (sadly, haha), I decided to try reupholstering on my own. I felt really bad telling Tony that I couldn't afford his amazing deal, but Tony was utterly gracious about it. He helped me pick out the vinyl, gave me a deal on the yardage, custom made buttons (for only $1.25 a button! incredible price, as these things normally cost $5/button at least), and gave me so much advice about the type of needle and threat that I will need, about how to reuse my welting cord, etc. He never once tried to push any product on me. He is just utterly genuine and helpful. Bay Area Burners: There are a lot of bright colored vinyl there (bright pink, green, etc.) for your creative projects! The place has a weird location: If you google search the address, it will take you to a large furniture store (fun place to browse). A little beyond the furniture place is a driveway to the parking lot for bunch of businesses in the lot. Go there, park your car about halfway down. You should see a sign for the business there. Walk into what looks like a garage, and you shall find "the man" (yes, Tony) there. Happy Upholstering! read more

I found this place on accident, so glad I did. I'm a projects type of guy, I love working with my hands, and fixing things. I was looking for different types of vinyls at the local fabric store, but was coming up short. Figured I'd do a quick Yelp search for upholstery, and started the calls. Not only was this place the only one who had what I wanted in stock, but they were way cheaper than everyone else. (figured out why later). After stopping down there, I also found that they sold a few other items I needed, AND on certain occasions even do the work. Long story short, I have some BEAUTIFUL newly upholstered seats in my truck, and a new supplier for all my projects. Oh yeah, my guess for why their prices are so cheap is probably because of low overhead. They have a semi-difficult to get to location, that's really just a warehouse by the tracks, but hey, I don't care, I'm not trying to move into the place. I'm glad they're there! Tony is awesome! I had an L shaped couch with an Ottoman under the L portion. The L shape was cuter in the store than it was in my family room. My idea was to separate the long cushion over the ottoman to make the couch and ottoman into two pieces. I didn't really have enough fabric once we split the cushion into two pieces to cover all the sides. He asked me if I had any matching pillows he could use the fabric from. I did and the magician made it all look like the couch was made that way. Good price @ about $200 and super fast! Would definitely recommend. Location is in a warehouse next to some tracks. This place gives you your money's worth. I looked at vinyl at JoAnn Fabric and a similar vinyl was $35/yd. I got a lovely antiqued brown for $15/yd, a bag of 100 decorative nails for $8, 2 bobbins of thread for $2, and a tavk hammer for $15. Not only were the prices reasonable, Tony gave me his card and offered to answer any questions I might have once I get started. I'm definitely going back for the prices, products, and the customer service. Good job! read more

This place is fantastic! We recently had two dining chairs that were in dire need of reupholstery. We found these chairs on the streets in San Francisco 15 years ago and reupholstered it ourselves. The chairs had gotten dirty and stained and were no longer comfortable to sit on. After some research, I met with Tony and he examined the chairs and explained what he would do. I was especially impressed when he noticed the tricky corners on the chairs and decided that they would need some edging to give it a finished look. After a week, we got the chairs back- cushioned and stylish and beautiful! It really looks fantastic in our house AND it's a pleasure to sit on too! We are so impressed that we have already lined up 2 more pieces of furniture that will get reupholstered at Bay Trim. This is long overdue. Tony is quite simply, the best. First, he is responsive. Second, he is easy to work with. Then: He did my Grandmother's sofa and club chair (from the 1933 Chicago World's Fair) which meant a lot to me - and was being reupholstered for the second time. He took great care of them - and they look fantastic! I had paid about the same for reupholstery in the early 80's - a truly similar price all these years later! He really took care with my wing chair also - and my friends who have seen the three pieces over the past 40+ years were astounded. Then he did my 93 year old Mother's wing chair. It was perfect too! After contacting a number of East Bay upholsterers, and emailing around numerous photos to get rough estimates, we were very fortunate to arrive in Tony's upholstery shop! As we were soon to find out, Tony, et. al. at Bay Trim do outstanding work. Tony is pleasant, experienced and easy to work with. Our project involved reupholstering 10 waiting room chairs and also recovering a window seat cushion. Tony was extremely helpful in guiding us to consider fabrics that would meet our needs for a pleasant upgrade that matched existing walls and carpeting, durability and economy. We borrowed a fabric sample book, made our selections, and phoned in our finalists to be ordered. Tony then provided time and cost estimates, including pick-up and delivery. We were able to schedule the work in two visits so that our visitors would have some chairs to sit on during the refurbishment. Once the shop had the chairs, the project was completed on time within about two weeks, and the original estimate was within range of the final cost.
