We signed up our visiting grandson for their Coastal Italian Cooking Class. He is 14 and already an accomplished cook so this was right in his wheel house. We did have a faux pas as we did not realize that a paid adult had to accompany him. Kudos to the staff for giving us a hall pass and allowing junior to attend the class with us standing off to the side. He had a blast preparing dishes with his three teammates, making fresh pasta for the linguine and clam sauce, and even a desert pizza. The class was well organized and the chef instructor and assistants made sure everyone's dish was prepared and cooked to perfection. I did get a chance to sample the pasta course and it was excellent. This is a great date/family night, or Corp outing experience. Do take some time to browse the store. Sur La Table has high end kitchenware and cooking tools. So, why not a 5-star review? Well half way through the class we were informed that only one of us could be in the class area. This rating is more so for the cooking classes offered here than for the store itself, although the store is pretty good for being a smaller version than others we've been to. We recently did a cooking class here and initially we were a bit skeptical about the price. You may ask, is it worth it to pay $90 each for a cooking class? On paper probably not, but once you're there the value becomes very apparent. First, the instruction portion. If you can follow at the quick pace, the techniques they teach you will 100% up your game in the kitchen. We learned a lot about balancing flavors, different techniques, what to look for, etc. It's a crash course on high level cooking at home, and just like anything in this vein, what you put in is what you'll get out of it. I.e., if you go in trying to learn things, you'll learn a lot. As people who are actively looking to make more dishes this year and have fun doing it, this was the perfect blend of pace, learning, and activity. By the end of our time here we not only learned how to make gnocchi from scratch but also how everything makes sense along the way. The kitchen is clean, there are plenty of helpers, and the energy is high. The instructor moves at a pretty quick pace; however, since there are 4 people working on things at once, it makes it easier. That being said, the two people you get paired up with helps make your experience there. If you get along, then great! If not, at least it's only for a couple hours. There's water available, as well as espresso at the front of the store. They also allowed people to bring and drink wine, which added to the ambiance of the class. And of course, you eat what you make. That's the best part. You make right then and there what may be a $100+ meal at a restaurant anyways and learn how to do it forever. You can't bring home any food so you have to eat everything right then and there. A note for the future would be maybe some chairs would help. By the time we were done with it all, this felt more like a culinary investment than just an activity. TL;DR: Took a tamale making class at Sur La Table with coworkers. Loved it. Learned a lot. Making tamales at home without all the prep and extra hands is a very different experience. Highly recommend the class. Making them solo at home is an adventure. Last week, I took a tamale making class at Sur La Table with coworkers. It was fun, informative, and very tasty. The chef explained everything clearly, and with about a dozen people working together and all the prep already done, it felt approachable and doable. Christmas Eve is when I learned what that class didn't show me. I decided we'd make tamales at home and I would teach my family what I thought I'd learned. To be clear, I was still very much a novice myself, just the least novice novice in the room. In class, everything was prepped and ready. At home, there were no kitchen angels. We were the angels, and we had no idea what we were getting into. It turned into a full family affair. Nathan braised the pork and handled the fillings. Mother and I tackled the masa and corn husks. Walter joined in on filling and assembly. We made pork tamales and a vegetable version and somehow ended up with three to four dozen. We started around six. They didn't make it into the steamer until 8:45. We ate at about 10:30. Dinner time expectations were... optimistic. The class absolutely gave me the skills and confidence to try this at home. What it understandably can't fully convey is the scale of the process when you're doing every step yourself. That said, I'm really glad I took it. I learned a lot, laughed a lot, and now have a much deeper appreciation for what goes into making tamales. They turned out pretty darn good, especially after they had time to rest. Will I be making them again anytime soon? Probably not. But I'm grateful for the experience, the memories, and the reminder that some foods are as much about tradition and teamwork as they are about the final plate. I recently attended a cooking class at Sur La Table (a gift from my dad- we went together). We cooked some delicious Thai food and really enjoyed spending that time together. While we were waiting, I did get a complimentary coffee sample which was lovely and much appreciated! As we moved between components, the instructor was great at answering questions, but the flow of the class felt slightly disjointed (likely just from the lack of time to fully prepare). This is a fun activity but not so much for a 4 person table having to share the cooking experience. Great way to meet people and make friends but if you paying what cooking classes cost to learn or get tips then I WANT TO BE DOING. Not watch 3/4 of the time with 1/4 time doing so that all get a chance to prep and mix etc. Three person setup table if you have to stretch it is better but not 4, a two person set up is optimal. Our instructor was a little hard to hear at times when talking from one side of room vs middle but she walked around to check on each group which was great. I had a 3 person group and two of us were versed in cooking so we could move and do with no problem. our 3rd person wanted to assist and watch so we had a better experience but if you don't have much experience in kitchen and your in a 4 person setup I feel you get shorted on your experience. All in all it was fun, try it, make it work to best ability and provide feedback on improvements. This is a good thing Sur la Table is providing. There isn't a real kitchen store near where I live. I always stop in here when I'm in the area to browse kitchen gear. I do love to cook and always love to stock up on the table linens, kitchen tools or just to get new bowls to add to my collection. There is a little sales section in the back of the store so you just never know what you'll find that you must have to add. I would LOVE it if a store is opened closer to my home but then again, it's an excuse to come in and visit and grab lunch. read more

We purchased several items before Christmas at this location. 1 of the items was a metal Garlic Press which was highly recommended by one of their associates. As opposed to a standard press, this was a metal curved shaped item with holes which you rocked back and forth with pressure from your hand. We purchased 2, tried one out and it was useless. The garlic was smashed versus pressed and what did come was huge. Yesterday we returned everything to the store and asked for credit for the one we tried. The manager refused credit on the used item and told us to get credit from the manufacturer. I was looking for a particular type of baking pan. I saw it online and i saw that they had it at this location. When I walked into this store, I discovered they had cooking classes that you can sign up and lots of equipment for your kitchen. As I walked towards the area for the pans I was looking for, it was not exactly what I wanted looking at it in person. It was a lot smaller than I thought. They are like mini size cupcake sizes for bundt cakes. I was looking for like a similar type of pan that would probably be 4 inches wide that looked more like a brioche style. It was to make Filipino Mamon sponge cakes. Those are actually hard to fine. Overall though this store is amazing. I would love to one day sign up for the classes. I like to buy for things when I need them. On this day I was set to find those Mamon style cake molds. One day Ill find one. Maybe Sur la Table will supply them after reading my review. The chef guided the class at a good pace and was very helpful and friendly throughout our time together. There was just enough prepared in advance to complete the meal in the alotted time while still leaving enough work so that all participants could learn and feel they were getting to participate fully. I enjoyed how the class was organized and felt that everyone maintained sanitary cooking habits and a safe cooking space. It was also great that they allowed us to bring our own bottle of wine, which made the experience that much more enjoyable. Of course the best part of the class was tasting the meal afterwards. Attended the 'Global Donuts' cooking class at Sur la Table few months ago with a group of five. Walked in, were given aprons and our group shared a table. There were at least four people per table. The class was about 2-2.5 hours. They served a breakfast frittata for us to snack on during class. It was delicious. We made hazelnut-chocolate filled bombolinis, beignets with powdered sugar, and churro fritters with mexican hot chocolate sauce. We were given instructions as we went through and everybody got a chance to participate. It was a lot of fun and we had so much to take home that we could've easily hosted a party with it, lol I swear! I took the Incredible Indian Flavors cooking class. We made garlic naan, chicken tikka masala, and shrimp in roasted coconut sauce. We were split up into 4 groups of 4 and we took turns cooking. All the ingredients were pre measured which was a huge time saver. Chef Nick was very knowledgeable and friendly. The class lasted about an hour and 15 min, and then we had time to eat everything we made. I was surprised and a little bummed out by their strict no takeout policy, which means you can't take anything you make home with you. They email you the recipe so you can make it again, but I did notice there were several differences between the instructions I received in class and the instructions in the recipe I was sent. The demographic seemed to be couples in their 30s and above, so I felt a bit odd as the youngest person there and being by myself. Looking back, I don't think I learned much new information from this class. As someone who knows the basics of cooking and wanted to learn more, I'm not sure this class was the right fit. The best way to do that might just be through trial and error in my own kitchen. Because of how expensive the class was, I don't think I'd take another cooking class here. My wife and I have talked about taking cooking classes together for a long time so for our 11 year anniversary I booked a Thai food class here. The set up is awesome... I mean every utensil or gadget you could imagine is at your finger tips. They have all the ingredients and a wonderful cooking space! We did all the prep work ourselves... slicing diving and whisking. The instructor was fun! Laid back and cool. What a great way to learn a few things. He worked with each station (there were 4 groups of 4 taking the class) and was just a fun guy! We cooked in groups of 4 so my wife and I got to meet another great couple and spend about two hours cooking and talking. (One tip... you can bring wine! We didn't know that, but next time that will be a definite!) We cooked pad Thai, cashew chicken, and a caramelized bananas with a coconut/lime sorbet for desert. The pad thai was awesome and something we will do again! The cashew chicken was ok. However the dessert was fabulous!! (You get all the step by step instructions written down at the end so you can repeat at home.) We are already looking at what class to take next! The BEST experience! 100% would recommend - my family and I took a class at Sur la Table for my mom's retirement party. Renting the entire place out, I don't think there could have been a better send off for her. They coordinate a menu to her liking (she had taken a few classes before with the instructor and they created a menu that combined a few favorites that would compliment one another). Beginning a bit of a rowdier group, the instructor was amazing of keeping the party going while still keeping us on task and getting through the class (being that the majority of the people in the room were project managers, was extremely helpful). Have been to many cooking classes but enjoyed Sur la Table class more than others. Chef Zack guided us through the following Parisian cooking class making....Steak au Poivre - Braised Leeks with Tarragon Mustard Vinaigrette - Roasted Potatoes with Espelette and Thyme - Crêpes Suzette. Learned a few tips such as applying oil to the pan when we placed the steak into the skillet and make sure you do not heat the oil first. When placing steak, place part of steak closest to you first and then balance of meat gets placed in skillet to prevent being splashed with the oil. Making crepes Suzette was easier than thought and the orange zest and fresh orange juice sauce was amazing. Great class and if you can do a cooking class at any Sur la Table, do it. Austin class was great. Used a bit too much salt on the steak auvpoivre, but that us how you learn. Big learning experience Chef Zack. Will definitely use leeks more often as this plated item is a great pairing with the protein. Prefer demonstration cooking classes that requires participants to do the meal prep. I have been motivated lately to advance my cooking skills, so I decided to sign up for Sur la Table's knives skills class to start with the basics. Jason was a fantastic teacher, and over the duration of the course we learned many forms of chopping with various knives and ingredients. I wish that there was a little bit more room for each student (we were elbow to elbow), and that we had used our knife skills to prepare a dish, even something like salsa. I took two cooking classes here in the past week and they were a lot of fun! First, I went online due to some brilliant marketing email that offered me 20% off my cooking classes if I signed up that night. Then, my trusty credit card had a deal with SLT that gave me a $10 statement credit for spending a certain amount here, so I made out like a bandit! Last week I took the Great Cauliflower Swap class with Chef Lindsey. There were only 5 people in the class and two cooking stations - we were spoiled! I was clearly the 5th wheel, so I joined a couple on their first date and became the third wheel. That ended up being a lot of fun! The other duo was a mom and daughter who were very cool too. I arrived so early that the manager told me to walk to Whole Foods and buy an adult beverage for the class. I came back with a bottle of Albarino and was given a wine opener and glass to enjoy my wine. Cheese and crackers were also provided. We teamed up to make four dishes: cauliflower fried rice (this actually had BBQ pork in the recipe but I took my portion out of the wok before the first-daters added their pork), roasted cauliflower larb, cauliflower-crusted grilled cheese, and KFC: Korean Fried Cauliflower. A few things of importance to note: the cauliflower grilled cheese seemed more like a cauliflower latke-cheese sandwich that was fork-and-knife only. The larb was so delicious, I would make that again! The sauce for the KFC was also amazing. Both duos cleaned their wine bottles and poured the leftover sauce in them to take home (they had screw tops, lucky people)! Leftovers cannot be taken home per policy, so the staff will eat your scraps or you can be sneaky and bring tupperware. Chef Lindsey was kind enough to let the mom-and-daughter duo put stuff in a piece of foil for their husband/dad. Mid-class, we take a break and start filling our baskets for the 10% off discount available only that night, which includes sale/clearance items. Kitchenaid is 20% off for class-goers. At the end, the store lets us shop after hours which is fun too. The only thing that happened on this night that surprised me was that I drank maybe between 2/3 and 3/4 of my bottle of wine. It did not hit me until I was at checkout. I sat in my car in the Domain and called Eric R. to tell him I needed to sit there awhile before driving home. This is even after eating all four dishes and drinking iced green tea too. Oops! This past Sunday I attended the Thai Street Food class with Chef Matthew. This class was much bigger somewhere between 12 and 16 people. I was paired with a funny couple but this time they were married rather than on their first date. We were on one of four stations. This class had a lot of prep work to start since Thai food has lots of ingredients. After prep, we made papaya salad and ate that before our break. Then we made pad Thai with tofu, chicken satay, and fried bananas. Chef Matthew sent someone to buy coconut gelato at Frost around the corner to go with our fried bananas which was awesome. Everything we ate was so good. I then proceeded to go to a picnic meet-up right after...and I took this class after gorging on dim sum at New Fortune for Father's Day with my visiting family. Sunday Food-day? With my discount, I ended up getting a cuisinart hand mixer since my no-name Black Friday deal one died recently, a vacu-vin-type marinating system that we used in class, and a few other random things. If you want to sign up for a future cooking class after you finish one, you get $20 off if it is $50+. That is a great deal. This is quite fun and informal, but you will learn something along the way. Chef Matthew wanted us to learn some knife skills, so that was cool. I liked everything we made too, especially the peanut sauce for the chicken satay. Side note: I did not bring wine to this class because 1) it was earlier in the day than the other one and 2) I was going to the picnic thing where I would be drinking the rest of my wine from the previous class with more food and had to drive from the Domain to the Long Center to do so. Safety first! Take a class, and if you can, bring a friend! Being a third wheel is fun, though, because you get to meet cool people who like cooking and eating too. read more

I cancelled my order but they gave me the run around about refunding due to the order being locked in shipping status. I never got the items. As of Jun 2024...7 months later, they still NEVER REFUNDED MY MONEY. I have called several times and been put in limbo while they "see what they can do" and never follow up. Buying online from them is just glorified drop ship BS. I used to love this store, now I am vehemently against them and will take my business to William Sonoma/Crate and Barrel/ or really any other kitchen utensil shop. Great as a retail store, with any type of appliance a home cook would need to fully supply their kitchen. Meh on their cooking class, which is mainly what this review is in regards to. We came here to take a class that demonstrated to us how to cook beef stew, "perfectly cooked" rice, grilled veggies, and chocolate chip cookies. There were 16 people in the class and we knew ahead of time that we would be divided into groups of 4. However, what really ended up happening was that we were lumped into groups of 8 because there weren't enough cooking appliances that were set out. For instance, our group of 4 had to share the same instant pot as another group of 4 and so the beginning of the class was just standing around, waiting for the other group to finish their cooking steps before we could proceed. I saw that they definitely had other instant pots on the shelves, so I'm not sure why they didn't just put out more appliances to begin with. I spent the majority of the class just sort of standing around. Even though I didn't get to cook as much as I was expecting, I was looking forward to tasting all the dishes, but I was pretty underwhelmed even by that. The "perfectly cooked" rice was too mushy for my taste while the beef stew was overly salted. At least the veggies and chocolate chip cookies were good, albeit the latter being loaded with 2 cups of sugar. I have heard that some of their other cooking classes offered here have been good, so perhaps we just went on an off night. read more
