A Williams-Sonoma-esque store with a bunch of kitchen-related stuff! Their appliances are on the pricier end of the spectrum, so if you're looking for a $30 toaster oven, this isn't the place. But they've got everything from fun cheese plate tags, decorative cupcake holders, fancy wine glasses, and snow cone machines, to more serious culinary items like high quality knives, expensive cookware, and top-of-the-line kitchen appliances. It's the kind of store where you can pop in with no grocery list and find a bunch of things that you don't really need, but really want! Not a huge store, but they pack a lot in to the space they have. The priciness isn't just because of their quality products. We had just come from Ikea where we purchased a pitcher for $4.99. Sur had the same one for $11.50! I wouldn't expect them to compete with Ikea's prices, but that's quite a difference. We'll continue to get our everyday stuff, like soup ladles, non-stick pans, and ginsu knives from Target. But if we are hosting a party and want some fun stuff, need a special kitchen gadget, or are looking for a high end appliance like a juicer that leaves pulp as dry as a bone, we'll be back! read more

There is something about kitchen stores that just make me so happy! Sur La Table is one of the Kings of all kitchen stores and I love shopping here!! Shopping at Sur La Table is like visiting the kitchen of a chef who has everything! Just like a real kitchen that is overstuffed with baking sheets and gadgets, so is SLT! There are all kinds of hidden gems tucked away on shelves and into nooks and crannies. I could spend hours looking through it all. SLT has some of the best kitchen appliances around. They are one of the few places that sell Nespresso machines and all of their accessories. Wonderful! Around the holidays SLT sells some of the cutest foodie ornaments to be found. I have noticed that they have become a little pricey over the past couple of years, but they are still fun to shop. SLT has wonderful customer service and a fantastic selection of unique and hard to find kitchen gadgets and cookbooks. Shopping at Sur La Table is always a satisfying experience!! read more

Review of KNIFE SHARPENING: We took three knives in for sharpening: a cheap-ish chef knife, a nice (Henckels) paring knife and a nice (Henckels) Santoku. knife. Admittedly, they were all VERY dull because I have been afraid to let anyone touch them. My husband had read good reviews of Sur La Table, and given their supposed expertise selling knives, I was willing. BIGGEST MISTAKE EVER. The paring knife survived. The chef's knife did NOT. They took so much metal off the edge that the bolster/heel of the knife now hits the cutting board, and the last 1/3 of the blade DOES NOT. They rendered it almost useless, and I cannot see how anyone who knows how to USE a knife could be so careless. What they did to my Santoku is even worse, since it is actually a very nice knife. They took off the tip- ROUNDED OFF THE TIP and ruined the shape of the cutting edge. I cannot believe the amount of metal they took away. It will be useable, but will never feel the same. Let me repeat- they took off enough metal to CHANGE THE SHAPE OF THE EDGE. They TOOK OFF THE TIP OF THE KNIFE. I cannot emphasize enough: I took these knives to a "professional" rather than try to sharpen them myself to avoid damaging them. I could not have damaged them this much as a rookie, simply by paying attention and CARING about the job. Do not take any blade that you care about to Sur La Table. read more

Oo la la The guaranteed orgasmic G-spot stop for anyone who is an amateur or professional in the kitchen requiring utensils, devices and other sorts of housewares to jumpstart their creative foreplay with food and baked goods. After our fantastic meal at The Counters, we waddled over to check out Sur La Table, since my friend's mother had items that reflected her love with French Provencale interior design. I'm personally more of the austere types associated with Revol Porcelaine items, but to each, their own. I was most obsessed with childlike curiosity and NC-17 attraction to the Henckels limited edition set of knives priced at approx $1,400. Ah, what one would pay for immediate satisfaction. Moving along placed me in front of the beautiful Breville indoor grill: a menage a trois of perfect ingredients, machinery and the presentation of the warm little toasted panini of perhaps brie and prosciutto? Mmmm. Sur La Table is the upper end to Williams-Sonoma, which is actually more my style. Simple. No complexities to decipher. I'm not a fussy shopper so anything that seems cumbersome or too frilly (ie, hoots and whistles) is a no-go for this easy-go-lucky cook/baker. Just give me something with an on/off switch. However, for the so-inclined looking for specifics, Sur La Table would be your next pit stop to fulfill your kitchen fetish. The sales associates were great in that we had no one breathing down our necks like Harpies. Therefore, we were allowed to roam freely and peruse at ease. I currently really have no need for anything, but to meander through the well-stocked aisles gave me ideas for the time when I could have my own place and throw lavish dinner parties. Voyeurism at its best. In the meantime, I'll just stick to key faves in achieving my climactic presentations on the table and occasionally baking the good old chocolate chip cookies on my old Williams-Sonoma stainless steel sheet. There were several times when I was asked if I needed help. One of the workers even helped me get a basket. The same guy even offered my mama a sample cup of espresso. The register guy was cool. Horrible experience! If you go to this store, be sure to have your diamonds and best attire! I went to this store to purchase an espresso machine but because I was dressed in "soccer mom" clothes, I didn't look the type to be able to purchase a $3,000 machine. I was treated so poorly! The assistant manager embarrassed me and scolded me as if I were a child. He told me not to touch the machines without his assistance! I mean, he literally yelled at me. One of the staff members there was so embarrassed for his poor treatment towards me that she apologized for him! I wrote a letter to the store manager, the Sur La Table Headquarters and to the brand of the coffee machine I went there to purchase. I love the staff here. They may not always be the most perky fake type of people, but they are so efficient and they know tons about the products they carry. I talked with a staff member for 25 minutes about the knives they carry and he let me try them out cutting carrots... He explained the different blades to me, the price points, the pros and cons... It is so refreshing to speak with someone in a brick & mortar store that knows what they are selling. I didn't catch his name. Young man, brown haired, somewhat recently married. This place has gone bad. I really didn't mind paying double price for some things.. Having a local place to buy things like Popover trays was great. With the in store warranty I could just return things like Popover trays when they went bad after twenty cycles. This time around I was told no more. Now sixty day policy. I give this place a solid 3.5 stars. Having been to 2 different Sur La Table locations I must say that I prefer William sonoma a little bit more. Both stores have very similar price points and they carry pretty much the same product lines, with a few exceptions, but the reason I prefer William Sonoma is the presentation of the items they carry. Don't get me wrong Sur La Table is a very nice store but their products there seem to be a little bit disorganized and sometimes things can be hard to find. Conversely, in William Sonoma most items are presented well, easy to see, and easy to find. The one area that I noticed that Sur La Table had a clear edge over William Sonoma is in the area of kitchen knives, I must admit that I am a bit of a sucker for a really nice set of kitchen knives. They seem to have a couple more product lines available in addition to allowing customers to test the cutting ability of the knives on hapless potatoes and carrots waiting to be put out of their misery. I'm getting carried away though. Overall, if you've never been to Sur La Table it's worth a visit, however, if there were a William Sonoma next to a Sur La Table I would lean toward the former rather than the latter. read more

I admit... I have loved this store in every city I've visited that has one. But the one at The Fountains in Roseville is still spectacular. They have just about everything you might need kitchen-wise, and the staff is very helpful. It's not as large as some of the other locations, but it's larger than the one in Seattle near Pike's. I wish there were another one in Sacramento (downtown would be perfect), but I still willingly travel 40 minutes just to come to this store. read more

Really disappointed with how the staff handled my problem. I called and asked if they carried an item I was looking for, a plain black apron. Over the phone the sales lady was great and really helpful. She told me they had the item and would hold it by the register for me. I drove almost 30 minutes to the store, only to find out that the apron was black and white pinstriped. I figured there was some mistake and she grabbed the wrong one. But no, the same woman who answered the phone and spoke to me confirming that they had a plain black apron was now trying to tell me that they didn't carry them anymore. So the snooty pretentious manager got involved. Let's just say he was a jerk. Absolutely no resolution, didn't give a damn and walked away from me during our conversation. Definitely needs some training in customer service. No need to ever shop in that store again when I can go across the street to William Sonoma and be treated kindly and with some respect. read more

I was looking for something very specific, a jalapeno roaster for the grill. A friend of mine brought hers over that she bought from Williams-Sonoma and I fell in love with it. I called Williams-Sonoma, and after being on hold for a while they let me know they didn't have it in stock. I called Sur La Table and the guy told me that they had it. I'm a bit of a foody, some girls can spend all day in makeup shops, shopping for shoes or purses, I love kitchen stuff. This wasn't my first time at Sur La Table, but it was my first time purchasing something from them. Right away someone asked me if I was looking for something in particular and I told him what I was looking for and he got it for me. I was really happy to see that the corer came included with the roaster, Williams-Sonoma does not offer that, it's an extra $9 for it, I saved $10 by going to Sur La Table. I love this store.....not only because of the excellent selection, but because of the superior customer service. My husband and I went into the store to look at espresso machines. We were amazed by the selection. Although we drink lattes and coffee regularly, we didn't know much about the machines. Natalie promptly greeted us and offered to give us a tutorial on the machines. I was impressed by her depth of knowledge and experience with all of the machines. My husband and I sampled a variety of espressos from different machines and finally settled on the Jura J9. Anthony, another associate, stopped by as well and chatted with us. He was also friendly and personable. The best part was the J9 was on sale for $2324.99 plus tax! Quality has its price! The staff are very helpful and acknowledge! They even have a place where you can try most of the knives! that's an A+ for me right there. Knowing how the knife handled before forking $800 on a knife set. He even told me about a pro discount ( if your in school, restaurant or along those lines you get a 10% discount!) which was huge for me I saved around $600 since I've been going here. The customer service is amazing too, I dropped my knife on the floor and the tip broke, I went in the next day and he brought out a brand new chefs knife from the back and put into into my original case and said " here's your new knife" without any questions at all! Now staffed with arrogant young dudes who appear to have very little knowledge about cooking, cookware, and cooking accessories. Treated rather rudely the past two times I've been in, was even accused of stealing by the same rather unaware and obtuse young man who had just rung me up. No offer of apology once he was shown my receipt. Another time I was rushed out of the store at 15 mins before close and given wrong advice on a product (just to get me out of their hair, I'm sure). Their customer service had started using Brown truck UPS (ugh!) and my order was a tracking nightmare. The customer service didn't know what was going on until 4 days later. If their could be a 1/4 Yelp star, then Surlatable online would get that. Will never use their website again, and for UPS - I always try to avoid the Brown truck and try to shop with merchants that use FedX or USPS. read more

I've liked other Sur La Table stores I've been to, they freuqnetly have fun items not availible in other stores. Sure the prices are a little high, but it is nice to be able to hold some things before buying them for less online. This is just the worst Sur La Table I've been to. It is smaller than others, so the selection is less... but rather than thinning the staple stuff carried by Williams-Sonoma, Macy's etc... no, no they dropped the more unique items, the harder to find items, in short the items that make other Sur La Tables actually good stores. All you are left with is the high price and the service. The service was just awful. I had them give just false information to several customers. I asked about a prop 65 warning ("Does it apply to all the items in the section or just those directly under the sign?") to which I received a long winded answer about how I don't need to worry about lead in my food prep equipment, without ever actually answering my question. When waiting to check out, only one register was in use as we waited in line for nearly 10 minutes and no less than four other employees just stood around the empter registers talking amongst themselves. When we finally checked out, the cashier kept not listening to my girlfriend's requests for "no bag" before grunting and literally throwing her credit card back at her. Next time I am in the market for specialty and I want to have the hands on experience, I'd drive the 100+ miles to San Francisco or San Jose before going to this Sur La Table again. read more

All kinds of things tradition and wacky, mostly useful, always unique gadgets for the kitchen. This is the perfect spot for a hard-to-buy for present recipient. I was shopping for my single nephew who just moved into his own place. All my must haves, minus the womanly stuff like fancy cookie presses and silopat sheets (got those for me). I'll purchase most items online to save a few bucks, however when it comes to small kitchen appliances and tools, I've learned from experience to spend those extra bucks and purchase them at Sur La Table. They have a good return policy (which is handy when the $150 food processor you purchased breaks suddenly a year or so after) and keeps a record of past purchases in the event their customer no longer has the receipt. Best in the business. This is THE place for chef's kitchens. Gordon Ramsay himself shops here. Williams Sonoma has the big things, but this has the big things and all the small things as well and they usually offer a wider selection, which also means a wider price point to cater to more people. A little more relaxed atmosphere than Williams Sonoma too. When I walk into WS, I feel I shouldn't touch anything...here everything looks much more accessible and most of the big "toys" are available for demo...also everything is on wire racks which resembles a restaurant kitchen and a more laid back atmosphere than the WS store. I wouldn't necessarily rate WS and SLT better than the other, just depends what you're looking for and your budget. read more

I love this kitchen store! The lion head bowls, the rectangular platters and cool flat wear choices that are all open stock. A lot of cool gadgets and devices that I will only use once or twice a year but have to have. Hard to find spices, loads of cute sprinkles designs and lots of aprons, napkins and placemats in cute patterns. I love it all. Employees are helpful, going in back to find something that they had just receive but hadnt put out yet. read more

They have the most interesting selection of anything a cook will need. The most useful thing I purchased were their brand of melamine bowls. I use them practically everyday. They have an excellent selection of cutlery, cooking utensils and stemware. During the holidays I purchase the paper molds here for baking breads and cakes. The staff is friendly and helpful and I never come home empty handed after visiting this store. Stuff I bought at Sur La Table 10 years ago is still holding up. Do catch their store sales! I didn't come in... but Isaac helped put my order in via phone, made the process so simple and he was so helpful, I ended up buying more than what I had initially wanted... made the shipping minimum and received my order 2 days later... unfortunately the ornament I ordered was broken... called Isaac... he said he would make it right by sending me a new one...but it's been more than a week... still have not received.
