I love this Ace Hardware! It's our neighborhood spot and depending on what we're working on at our house, I find myself coming here often. The employees are always helpful and kind, and are never surprised by my sometimes random requests/searches. They also have that nice popcorn machine that is the perfect distraction (and bribe!?) for my toddler son if he ever has to come with me. Additionally, If there's ever something I'm searching for that they don't have or do provide, they recommend a place that I can go to get that done. I stopped in yesterday for a razor blade scraper.... I was a little overwhelmed... so many different aisles that didn't seem to fit a category this item would be in. Feeling a bit defeated I attempted to leave. On my way out the cashier asked what I was looking for? As I told him: you don't have it, a razor blade scraper. He replied w what aisle to find it in and... "we have everything here." Ha. The item rang up at the wrong price, but without hassle, just a little annoyed, he refunded the difference. This isn't the closest hardware store to my house, but they have better hours than the more convenient place so I occasionally end up here. Like any of the Ace-branded hardware stores around, you'll find every aisle bursting with more goods than you thought could fit in a shop of this size. Everything is always reasonably priced, so they really make the case for the philosophy of shopping at local hardware stores instead of the big-box stores. When I go to a hardware store, nine times out of ten I have questions. Like, "newb questions". This location has never been particularly helpful in that area, despite their best efforts. The people working at my local Do It Best on Rice Street are much more prepared to give exceedingly useful information. It's not that the service here is bad; they're friendly enough, but in my experience it's never felt like I was talking to home improvement supergeniuses. And considering I am a home improvement superidiot, I need all the help I can get in that area! read more

Ordered a wheelbarrow online for in-store pickup. Came a few days after I got the notification it was ready for pickup. When I came, they were super quick in grabbing it from the back and helped me carry it out to my car! We ended up not needing it so had to return but when I tried to return it to a different location they said I had to bring it back to where I got it from so off I went! Came back to this location and they took it back, super simple and super smooth. Would definitely come back again soon for more tools!! read more

Stopped in to make an extra copy of the car key. I thought it would be a simple process but due to the make of our car, it required a little work. The gentlemen at the shop were kind enough to explain what and why the key needed to be a certain way and looked up whatever they needed to ensure we got what we came in for. I was oblivious! Then one of the men came around with a paper copy with instructions how to enable the key for it to start the car. He said it would take 10 seconds! We went back our car, and it literally took that much time. Friendliness and genuineness can't be bought. I'm so happy we came to this location. It's our new neighborhood Ace's store! read more

I have been shopping this ACE Hardware location for 16 years; ACE Rewards member for longer than that. After today's visit, I'm moving onto another hardware store. The hardware fastener drawers are an absolute mess. Plumbing components are a mess... many part bins empty. Returned/used items are restocked (packaging taped up, stapled shut) with parts missing. Lastly, every single employee under 30 years of age is arrogant, rude, and disrespectful. When I ask a specific question, about just about anything, the most common response is by one of the young staff is "I haven't seen that." Five minutes of concerted looking and I usually find it. Customer service has taken a HUGE nose-dive. It's a huge disappointment. read more

I bought a used snowblower here, arranged for delivery later in the week. I got a call the day it was supposed to be delivered... they had accidentally sold the snowblower to someone else! This mistake could have gone sideways in any number of ways, but Ace bent over backwards to make it right. I can't think of a better customer experience I've ever had. Dang! Here I thought I was all that. Every time I stopped into Suburban Ace just outside of St. Paul's Como district, I had every male employee fawning all over me--smiling, friendly, bending over backwards to help me out, and--I'm not kidding--some offered to come home with me to help finish my project. Heady stuff, and I don't think it was just the fertilizer talking. If I didn't already love hardware stores anyway, this was enough to make me a regular. On top of that, they've got a huge selection packed into a newly-redesigned space, stellar service, knowledgeable staff, and they provide the feel-good mojo of supporting a local business over an anonymous big box--all at reasonable, comparable prices. But here's the shocker: I'm *not* actually all that (nor the bag of chips). Turns out, they're all really just that friendly and eager to help. The store representative was not willing to take the time to help me find what I needed and told me that they didn't have the product I was looking for. But as I was leaving I saw it hanging on an end cap. Perhaps the owner should consider if he really wants to stay in business. read more

I took my weed eater in for a fix b/c I did not winterize it. Instead of sending it to the shop and charging me $40, the guy yanked and yanked on it until it cranked. No charge. I will go to this hardware store before I will go anywhere else. They are VERY helpful and everyone knows what they are selling. There are older gentlemen and 20 somethings that work there and everyone is just as helpful. They also have a "frequent buyer" card that I use whenever I shop and often send out $5 off certificates, etc. My only issue was once I was using one of these coupons and went in to purchase something and it was on backorder. Since the coupon expired that weekend, I asked if I could still use it for the backordered item, and I was told "no". If I wasn't in such a hurry, I would have complained, but I had to run. If this incident does happen again, I will certainly bring it to someones attention. I shouldn't be penalized for you not having a product in - hence the four out of five star rating. I still won't go anywhere else unless they don't have what I need. read more

Trash customer service. Looking for a simple price match on a mower to avoided the big commercial stores. Came in to but said lawn mower from the local hardware store to support local business & was convinced by David to buy from Home Depot or Menards. Question was "I'd like some clarification on a bill". Sorry to say after shopping this store (for years)I will not be back. We always new things were a little over priced,but this take's the cake. Ordered glass, bill from glass place was in are package 60.00. Bill from store to us was 150.00 plus 30.00 shipping. When I asked if this was right he grabbed the piece of paper out of my hand and said"he should of got that" (the bill). That's how he answered my question. read more

I needed a part for my Honda Lawnmower. They didn't have it in stock so they special ordered it and got in in the NEXT DAY. (Another local shop said it would take 1-2 weeks!). My plan was to bring in my mower so that he could install it...fix it- right in the car... But... My wife and I our son couldn't get it in the trunk!...ugh! So I call Bill (the service employee at Superior Ace) that I couldn't bring my mower in, and wouldn't you know... He offered to drive to our home, to install it! What service!!! He did, and noticed another part missing that needed to be replaced. He told us that he wouldn't bill us until we got the additional part, so we would pay once for both items. So, he called when he got back to the store and told us that he had the part. So I drove over and picked it up right away. They didn't charge us for the house call. What service!!! This is a perfect example of service of a by-gone era! Oh...by the way, did I mention... I'm 90 years old, a Air Force vet serving in WW2, and will continue to be a faithful customer of this store. I used to be a big-box hardware shopper but then I discovered this place only 5 blocks from my house. You walk in the store and someone asks you "Can I help you?". From that point on, they are your "personal shopping assistant". If you know what you need, you tell them and they walk you to it, grab it off the shelf, and hand it to you. If you're not sure what you need to finish your project, you can describe what you're trying to do and they'll know exactly what you need. I would consider myself pretty handy. I've done tons of plumbing, electrical and carpentry work around my house. I was also an electrician's apprentice for 6 summers... so I know my way around a work bench. But it still amazes me every time I go into this store how much the employees know... even kids younger than me! They also have a basement with any part you can imagine and a service center. Take it from me, if you have a project around the house, go here, let them do all the shopping for you (in record time I might add), and walk out knowing you got exactly what you need for your project. read more

Today was really annoyed; the guy at the counter unsolicited asked what was being done - cutting roots with axe - he suggested getting axe sharpened "bring it in, we'll do it for free". So went home and got it; different guy at counter, charge $10??? What is this tacky bait and switch, business that bad? It's not the little money it's the principle. read more
