When you first enter the shop, everyone is so friendly and helpful. There is a short walk from the shop to the beach where you'll begin your lesson. Parking is a bit difficult if it's a sunny day, especially if it's a weekend. I suggest parking on a street a few blocks out. You start on the beach learning the basics of surfing. You also learn how to pop up and then you finally head out into the water. We had a about 8 people in our group and so we split up between the two instructors. The instructors gave us instructions and helped push our boards so we were able to catch waves and it was a lot of fun. Such a great experience! Omg! My first time surfing was a challenge, then after an hour or so after renting from Surf Diva I called back while at the beach and got on to the next group lesson which made all the difference in the surf experience. I'm the type of girl who fears getting hurt. When I stepped in the water I was apprehensive and by the end of the hour I was the last one saying just one more surf! One of the teachers was Current, what a perfect name right-born in Maui, and made to surf-he was a great instructor. Ever since the experience last week I've been wanting to come back for more. Ps. Helpful and nice "shop divas", super cute clothes and accessories in the shop, and the most amazing team of surf instructors for surf lessons (and SUP lessons!). They love teaching, love surfing, and they tell you everything you need to know to try surfing for the first time! I did a week long camp in high school and I felt very safe and had fun! I also really recommend a 2 day weekend clinic if you really want to spend some serious time in the water practicing! Now that I surf by myself, I love to go to the Shores first thing in the morning when it's glassy out and the wind hasn't picked up at all (who cares about "June gloom" in the sky when the water is so beautiful). My two 13 year olds did the Digital Media Surf camp at the University and LOVED it! Surf Diva instructors had them surfing in the morning and the digital media camp have them the video cameras and editing in the afternoon. At first I was regretting letting my wife choose the surf school (I mean, come on, it's called "Surf Divas"), but it turned out to be really great. They are definitely guy friendly as well. Our instructors were both really knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. It was a little pricier than the last surf class I tried, though, otherwise I would've given it five stars. Oh, and my wife loved their store--something about really good flip flops that are hard to find anywhere else. Who knows. read more

I took took a group lesson ("Party Wave") through Surf Diva and highly recommend it to any first-time or beginner surfer. Mimi was a fantastic instructor. She kept things fun but emphasized the importance of safety. She was very patient and encouraging. My friend and I had such a good time that we rented boards from Surf Diva the next day and were excited to see Mimi in the water when we got down to the beach. I think she was excited to see us too! It was awesome to have a female instructor for a sport that is almost entirely depicted as male. read more

Absolutely love surf diva!!! My boyfriend and I always rent paddle boards here and the staff is always so friendly! The price is 25 an hour but usually if you stay out for less than 2 hours they only charge you the 25!! It's the same if you rent surf boards as well! 10 bucks an hour but they always give you a great deal! This is the best place to go for surfboards and paddle boards! You will not be disappointed! We just finished a second week at Surf Diva summer camp and my daughter had the time of her life. She was completely new to the sport and ended the week being confident on her board and loving the ocean. The instructors are incredible fun, caring and engaged with the students. More importantly, safety is key and there are more than enough instructors in the water to keep the kids safe. Every instructor we interacted with was more than willing to offer advice and support. In the water, even though they surf in groups, all of the instructors are there to give another kid a push or a word of encouragement to keep the environment incredibly positive. Our group of little ladies are returning customers. Our Girl Scout Troop has had not once, but twice had an awesome experience with Surf Diva. This review is base on the lessons the girls took today. First off, Erika is awesome! When I made the reservations, she took her time and inputted each girl information one at a time. 48 hours before our lessons,she called to reconfirm everything. The girls in the shop were ready to help us and excited we were there. Very friendly. Our instructors rocked! We had a few girls who were afraid. By the end of their lessons, they were pros. I'd had a horrible experience the one time I tried surfing years ago, injured myself and swore I'd never do it again but this year mama ocean called me so I signed up for a lesson. Davo made me feel calm from the get-go and his confidence and decades of experience were reassuring. He kept it very basic and I was standing riding the gentle 1-2' waves in no time. My daughter tried their 1 week summer surf camp recently and it was such a pleasant experience for her! I was a little nervous about it all since she's not a very strong swimmer but the instructors were so attentive, taught her the basic fundamentals and were with her the whole time. By day 2 my daughter was standing up on the board and catching those waves! By day 4 and 5 she was on the outside surfing like a pro! We'll def be back for another camp! Izzy and her team are phenomenal!!! I've had my eye on Surf Diva since I moved to SD. The coaches were so supportive and so passionate about surfing and helping us to achieve our goals in the water. Visiting from the East Coast and read a posting online about the school so I thought I'd check it out for my two kids, 11 & 12. The school did not disappoint. My kids instructor, Canyon, was really informative and knew the right pace to challenge my kids. The price for two hours of private lessons was reasonable, and my kids who had taken surf lessons in Virginia Beach said that this school was much better than the previous.
