90-minute Private Family Lesson My husband and kids have surfed a little before and were really excited about the lesson. I had never surfed before and was borderline petrified. Our instructors Alyssa and Jason were fantastic. The ocean was a bit rough, but Alyssa is so encouraging and has such a calming presence, I felt at ease immediately. She gave good, detailed instructions at the beginning and throughout the session. I was able to stand up and ride a wave on the first try, and nearly every other wave after that. Jason was a natural with the teens. Our surfing skills improved considerably during our session. My family LOVED it so much they went surfing every day for the rest of the week. Very thoughtful on the details. had a lesson plan and if it wasn't working in the water we went back on the beach. I saw huge improve,ent with my pop-up, turns and paddleling. My 14 year old son had the BEST surf lesson with Logan! After a quick tutorial on the beach, Logan took my son into the water and helped him catch many, MANY waves. My son was able to stand up and ride the waves into shore (without any prior experience). This lesson surpassed all expectations I had going in. I appreciate that Logan used every minute of the allotted time to make sure my son had a rewarding & productive experience. Surf Diva was amazing! Four girlfriends and I had a private class with Patrick and Melissa and had SO MUCH FUN! We were all super nervous as none of us had ever *really* surfed before, but the instructors made us feel so relaxed and comfortable. After a few practice rounds of techniques on the sand, we were ready to hit the waves. All five of us were able to eventually stand up and actually catch a few waves! I have taken group lessons and a weekend women's clinic here. I say try and get a female instructor, in general they tend to be more informational and patient. I highly highly highly recommend the women's clinic. They helped me learn what I've been doing wrong, feel more confident, and I met a lot of women at my level and we can go out in a lil pack now. if you're a lady in SD and you're interested in learning, you should 100% take the women's clinic. read more

This is a family run surf shop and surf school. Great for new Surfers. Our 2 boys have enjoyed surf camps and surf clubs on weekends. The surf instructors are well trained. I was a former lifeguard and have always felt safe with my kids in the water with Surf Diva and team. A great example of this is one day the surf at La Jolla shores was big and they added additional instructors to manage the kids. Safety and fun is always a priority for this company. I recommend people to get lessons with Surf Diva. The surf at the shores is great for beginners and its a perfect location to enjoy beautiful water, dolphins are often swimming offshore, and just overall a gem of southern california. Our family had decided to go down to San Diego for a short get away just last weekend, and we originally signed up for just the SUP lesson for the 3 of us, and ended up doing another surfing lesson for our kid cuz it was so much fun!! We had Mimi as our SUP instructor, and Brianna for our son's surfing lesson. Both instructors were wonderful! Both are very experienced instructors and surfers. Both are very detailed in explaining the instructions - the what to do/not to do's. We were all standing in our board once we got in the water during the SUP lesson. My son was doing pretty good towards the middle of of his surfing lesson. And he had a lot of fun too. We would definitely come back for more lessons if we are ever going back to San Diego! And the shop itself carries a lot of cute beach apparels and sandals. You get a 20% off anything at the store on the day of your lesson as well. read more

We went to a different surf camp last year and the kids got very little surfing in, that doesn't happen here. We had our child attend the Surf Diva surf camp. Without any experience, our son was surfing by the end of the week. He had a blast, the teachers were excellent, the drop-off process was seamless and I found the entire camp easy and worth every penny. We did the picture package, was worth it as well. These guys are great. I inquired about a surf rental because i was in town briefly, and was actually a little discouraged from renting a surf board because of not beginner friendly conditions. I still showed up because i've surfed a handful of times, and they had a 9 footer ready to go, but the best part was that i wasn't really feeling it in the water, and returned the board early, and they only charged me for half an hour, which i think is really classy. This will be my surf rental spot of choice going forward for their classy customer experience, and i recommend them above others for this above and beyond care. read more

My husband and I had a blast during our private surfing lesson with Seth. He was friendly, approachable, and most of all, very very helpful in giving immediate feedback so that you could adjust and actually improve even in the two hours. This is my third surfing lesson ever. The other two were in completely different cities and were a group situation, so there were less personalized instructions, and a lot more waiting. This experience is hands down the best one yet, and worth the extra cost. I'm going to have to say that Haiwaii was a heck lot easier for a beginner, but Seth made seem it less daunting and gave me the confidence that I can actually do this. Make sure you get to Surf Diva at least 15 minutes early. There is limited street parking, a lot of spots are 90min only. The staff will have you sign a waiver at the stand outside, then take your temperature. They held on to our valuables free of charge since there is no secure place on the beach. You will have to walk about 8 min to get to the pink tent on the beach to meet the instructor. You are required to wear a mask while on the beach, but not in the water. (Lots of people ignored this rule, but don't get me started.) We were there just for a quick 5 min intro, then it was right into the water. Bring or rent wet suit if you can. Seth said the water was freezing, but I did not feel a thing with a wet suit on. They do provide a rash guard. There is public showers and restrooms on the way back to Surf Diva. They give you a 20% discount on most purchases in the shop after your lesson I believe. read more

Was by myself and signed up for the group surf lesson aka party wave. 5:1 student:instructor, full wet suit and board rental, co-ed, 1.5 hours lesson on the sand and in the water under $80. There were like 20 of us but we were spread out so it didn't feel crowded. 20% off anything too plus you get a colorful surfing diploma back at the store at the end of your lesson! :) The instructors were all very knowledgeable, positive and encouraging. The staff at the shop were awesome. I loved Mimi the instructor! Note they don't have parking (and parking in La Jolla is a pain) or a restroom so plan ahead. Have fun! read more
