Me and my family visited earlier today in which we were met with harsh disrespect. One of the kids were wrongfully accused of opening a dumpling squishy toy. He was then told to leave the store and not return. After telling the one kid to leave this man kept trying to prove the little boy wrong over and over even though many witnesses saw he didn't harm the toy. One of the adults also mentioned there was a wall of children that were permanently banned from the store from similar situations. This kind of behavior should not be tolerated. Having a wall of kids pictures is completely inappropriate and unreasonable. I do not recommend this store for anyone who does not wish to be met with this much disrespect. I hope this attitude and customer service is fixed. read more

Avoid at all cost!!!! The old man who is behind the register is absolutely the worst. He will try to scam you and is discriminatory. I was in line trying to purchase sunglasses for my child. The lady in front of me had bought toy boats that clearly said they were a sale item. There were at least 12 boats in a bin with a sign saying $3.00. The tag on each boat was $3.00. He run her up full price. She was not happy when she realized after the transaction what had occurred. I didn't blame her. After she showed him the sign and the tag prices, he proceeded to tell her that other customers cross off the price and write their own prices. As a customer, it was not a pleasant experience to witness. When it was my turn he looked in my face and asked if I can read English. Then proceeded to ask if I was born in American and if my parents were born here too. He did the same scam on me. The sign said 1/2 off tag price. Once I said no forget it, because I was not going to have the same experience as the lady in front of me had, he said, "Oh, you are cheap. Don't shop in my store again." I left. That's ok sir I will NEVER step foot in your store again, nor will my family, friends and associates. read more

The only reason this business gets 1 star is that I am not able to rate lower. Walking through the "junked up" aisles with my grandson who was looking for a small toy. The owner/employee came around the corner and said control your child. I explained to him he was looking but not removing items from the shelf. He again said, control your child this is not a playground. He was picking stuff from the floor where we had not been near. I said fine, we will leave and not shop here. He the actually BLOCKED the aisle where we were trying to leave. After a few minutes he finally moved and said don't come back here. We surely will not. Hopefully no one else shops there. This is bad for the other businesses in Brigantine. read more

I wish I would have read the other reviews before I walked into this store. I had almost the same experience as William did a month ago. I was mortified. I have never had anyone speak to me about my children that way. Trust me old man, if your aisles were not so totally junked up and jam packed I'm sure we could've gotten through without hitting our elbows and upsetting you so much. Good grief. This is the best store in Brigantine. The owner has a wicked sense of humor and if you don't understand that you can get offended. The store is very much a mess but has just about everything you need. We look forward to shopping here and hearing what he is going to say next. read more

Very disappointed in the treatment of store customers by the owner himself. It's as if you walked into his store and he doesn't want you there. I ended up putting down the items and leaving due to his comments he made from behind the counter. Avoid this fire-trap, crap pile of a store. I was trying to pay for a frisbee, and the creepy old man starts talking very loudly about another patron's appearance. He asks me what I think of this young woman's tattoos and piercings, and why would someone do that. I was just trying to get out of there as fast as possible. This place is HORRIBLE! My husband went in to purchase a bathing suit and some children's sweat pants. The owner TRIPLE swiped our credit card and when my husband told him, he disagreed and proceeded to re-swipe the card!! Luckily we called PNC right away and they reversed the two extra charges, but the man was disagreeable and nasty. Merchandise was over priced. Stay away!!! read more

Don is a holocaust survivor, has been on the island since 1962 and can be a bit gruff at times. That being said, he's an extremely charitable man and the store has everything you need for the beach and to grab a souvenir. He's also willing to make a cash deal with you and tell you a good story or give you a good laugh in the process. I get a kick out of the review mentioning racism, Don has you beat sir. read more

OMG, this store has to be the biggest pile of junk in NJ not to mention the most disrespectful owner I have ever dealt with. Stopped in on 9/1/17 and he was yelling at a customer and we waited and waited to buy a shirt. If my cousin didn't want it so bad we would have walked out but he said you can wait a minute while he continued to yell at a customer. Zero stars. We went in looking for a boogie board. I found one and went to pay. The older man owner didn't greet me and looked at me as if he didn't want me there. I went to pull out my credit card and he said ,"we don't take that." I would have appreciated a nicer explanation. I then said to my daughter let's go try the other place. I come to this store every summer with family and friends. I am never coming back again thanks to the old man who seems to own the store. I was with family looking in the toy section. The old man followed us and claimed we were throwing stuff, which we were not. He kicked us out of the store automatically and I told the man that I needed to talk to my mom, who was in the back of the store, instead he threw us out. I'm very disappointed with this store. I could barely walk down the aisle because there are objects everywhere on the floor. I tripped and could have gotten hurt, but thankfully I didn't. Never go to this store because the old man is not friendly to people especially kids. read more

I wouldn't recommend this place at all. Every time I come into this shop, employees run out from behind the desk and watch every move you make. If you don't mind having them follow you down every aisle, they have lots of souvenirs. However, there are plenty of other places on the island that are a lot cleaner and have a better selection. read more

Disappointed with the owner's way of handling an issue brought to his attention. My niece and I purchased four pieces of clothing total from his store, a purchase over $50. He was overly friendly at the time of our purchases. My sister in law returns to the store to ask the owner to come up with a solution since one of the shirts shrunk to the size of a child's extra small. The shirt was an adult size medium. Nothing indicated how to wash the shirt or how to dry the shirt. The owner not only was rude, but incompetent in coming up with a satisfactory solution. He would not accept the shrunken shirt, offer her a new shirt, or even a shirt at a discounted price. Clearly the customer does not come first and treating customers kindly is not of importance at this business. read more

Cannot even give 1 star. I was accused of damaging a 30$ bocce ball from a set an hour after purchasing. An exchange or refund was denied, with receipt in hand. Amazing how he can still be in business where he sells damaged goods and accuses his patrons of fraudulent activity. Please get your beach items at any other reputable Brigantine business. read more

Today September 16, 2016 was my first and last visit to this Surf Sundries. Upon entering the store I was overwhelmed with the amount of things in this store. Then as I ventured further into the seemingly non-staffed store, I realized how overcrowded the store was. There seemed to be no organization to the store and how it was set up and it was so cluttered. As you walked through the store your shoulders brushed items, and you had to step over things that were just laying displayed on the floor in the aisles. I did not see a single price tag on any of the items so even if I was interested in buying some of the very nice items that were hidden in the store, I wouldn't know how much it cost because there were no employees to be seen to ask. As I got to the last aisle of the store I realized that I couldn't leave the aisle because there was too much stuff (surf boards, boogie boards, and other stuff) covering the floor and blocking the aisle. If this store were to catch on fire I would've been trapped. As I finally found my way out of the store an older man appeared out of no where and verbally accosted me for having my cell phone in my hand. He was extremely rude and accused me of taking pictures of his cluttered mess of a store and trying to show it to his competitors. This was my first time in his store, I don't even go to Brigantine that often so I don't know anything about the other stores there. Overall, I disliked the atmosphere, customer service, and feeling of this store. I will NEVER be returning to Surf Sundries! read more

This store is very crowded with junk. Much of the merchandise is old. The owner and employees are very rude.

1 star review because that's my only option. 0/5 actual. It's a shame that I have to waste vacation time on writing this review. My wife and mother in law purchased a beach cart inside this mildew infested garbage pit of a store. Once they walked outside of the store, they noticed that the cart's fabric was stained with unidentifiable fluids and large greasy smear marks. Furthermore, the "chassis" of the cart was rusted and there were used napkins stuffed underneath the interior padding. They tried to return the cart but the owner of the store said that it was not his fault, he couldn't return the item bc it was purchased with a credit card, and then ultimately blamed the Asian manufacturer. I went back to calmly ask if we could return the item based on the condition and he had the same response. I was very polite and told him that I understand the policy, but he wouldn't replace the cart with a clean(er) option either. He took no responsibility for the product he put out and proved that he doesn't mind being a flat out dooshlord. Avoid this store at all costs, and make sure you tell your friends. Hopefully he's out of business next season and replaced somebody who deserves your business. read more

Such a shame that I have to give a bad review but the owner was not being reasonable at all. We bought my 13 year old a $20 long sleeve last weekend. Washing direction did not say do not dry. Washed it as I would wash any other piece of clothing and placed in low heat. The shirt now can fit my 6 year old. Brought it back to the store. Owner was very rude. We didn't want a free shirt but they had a deal buy one get one half off. They didn't have the same shirt in her size so I picked a different color and asked if it was possible to get it half price. On top of it it had two dirt marks on front which I would have gotten out. I just wanted to replace the shirt for my teenager. The owner would not break us any deals. I even showed him the size difference in the shirt on the rack compared to the one we brought back. He just kept saying I can't take anything back. I wasn't trying to give it back, but also didn't want to end up paying a total of $40 for a shirt my daughter wanted. If it had a washing label that said do not dry then I would never had dried it and I wouldn't have to write a review on a grumpy owner that is just trying to get every penny he can before the season is over. Well I didn't appreciate his attitude and we decided that was no way a customer should have been treated. We decided to not give in and we did not buy the shirt. We will make it up to our daughter and buy where our business is wanted. read more
