Ordered the Jenk's burrito and had a few issues with it. To begin it was very underwhelming for an almost $12 burrito. The chicken was cold and did not look like it was grilled before the burrito was assembled. I did want steak but did not want to pay the extra $2 on top of an already overpriced burrito. The peppers and onions are cut too big to be enjoyable. The rice was very bland and did not have much taste to it. I have had better experiences at other Surf Taco's, but I do not plan to dine at the Seaside Park location. read more

Surf Taco has been a Jersey Shore staple for over 10 years. The food is exquisite and they have nailed down their self proclaimed "coastal cuisine". The menu is virtually the same at all locations aside from a few specials. Seaside Park is an awesome joint located just a block from the beach. This allows for great eats after some sand and sun. If you're a fan of unattended teenagers with oversized backpacks taking over tables and chairs before ordering food (if at all) then you'll be right at home. The more underage they are the less clothing they wear. Shoes (and pants and shirts) are optional. SECRET TIP: Don't sit near the soda machine or the salsa bar. It's a high traffic area. Also stay away from the door, or the windows, or the center where the line will run out the door at all times of day. It may look long, but really each kid and backpack take the space of 3 normal adults. Half of them don't order anyway so it moves fast! Enjoy! read more

The only way I can describe this place is decent, and knowing it's a chain doesn't change that, but some how I still come back. Now everything is pricey but some things I enjoy are the Mango Shrimp Taco ( this is 5.95 for a taco NOT TACO-S) and the Garlic Shrimp burrito only because I'm a shrimp kinda girl. Also the Mavericks Burrito is really not that interesting and is dominated by tasteless chicken. At the end of the day the Mango Shrimp taco and Garlic Burrito along with the sauces is the way to go. :) read more

I have read alot of pretentious reviews on here, like the one who can't get over his San Diego self, and the poor chap who thinks the tacos are terrible. The fact is the ingredients used at Surf Taco are what make the place. In the Jersey Shore environment you are surrounded by eateries that are old, have a long wait, are overpriced, and in the end, are a let down. Surf Taco -particularly in Seaside Park NJ, is a respite from this reality. The food is fresh, the tacos are DELICIOUS, and the variety on the menu has kept my family and me returning for years now. I have always loved coming to surf taco every summer for the past 5 years. The atmosphere is great and the employees are super friendly! The lines can get long around noon and 6pm so make sure to go earlier to get a seat. Their selection of foods are incredible. I personally love the smoothies! This place is great for a quick bite. Reminds me of Mexican fast food you'd find on the West Coast. Complete with a help yourself salsa bar. Load up on the Baja Salsa. I'd recommend the regular Surf Taco (fish), not the spicy one. As well as the steak taco. The burrito and quesadilla were not bad but nothing spectacular. If you're looking for authentic food, definitely go somewhere else...but if you're willing to abandon all expectations and just want a quick bite to eat hit this place up. I got the Baja bowl which was basically a deconstructed burrito with roasted red peppers and portobello mushrooms. The "char grilled chicken" kind of just tasted like that lame limp soggy chicken you get at cafeteria salad bars...disappointing. The rest of the bowl was decent, especially after I salvaged the chicken by pouring salsa and guac all over it. Well you walk in and automatically get that surfer beachy feel from the layout to the music to the names on the menu. I was impressed and surprised how slow it was on a Friday night. We had no problem finding an empty table. I tried a combo meal. For $8.95, two tacos of my choice accompanied with rice and beans and their signature chips. The salsa bar was pretty neat to pick out your own range of spicy salsa. Both of my tacos were good, flavorful, and what I expected. The surf taco I felt like I had to try. It was great! Whoever doesn't like fish is definitely missing out! My only complaint is the rice was very bland. No flavor, spice, salt or any taste at all. The beans were just okay. I'm pretty particular about tacos and a taco shop in Jersey even if it is by the sea is probably the last place I'd ever eat. I was, however, pleasantly surprised. They make a pretty decent fish taco and they have a salsa bar with good salsa. The people are friendly enough, it is the Jersey Shore, and the atmosphere is laid back and chill. It was close to $15 for three tacos and a drink which is pretty absurd but the tacos were good and I was satisfied. Needing lunch on a weekend afternoon my boyfriend and I headed to surf taco. There was a very long line when we got there at 2 pm with only one cashier on a weekend in the summer. After waiting about 15 minutes to place our order we got a seat for two. The food took about 10 minutes to arrive which wasn't too bad. However, the food itself was very very bland. I got a surf burrito and it lacked any flavor. Something like seafood mixed with Mexican should be fill my taste buds up but this did not. Even after dosing everything in their salsas I was very disappointed. My boyfriend felt the same way about his tacos. We also got The guacamole which was good but not worth the price. Halfway through filling up our soda at the fountain, it ran out and we only go seltzer water. Even though the location is convenient in seaside park and there is plenty of parking in the area, I would not come back here again. Before I share my thoughts about the food quality, I'd like to recognize Surf Taco for its brilliant marketing, as it has won the hearts and minds of countless Jersey Shore teenagers and, perhaps begrudgingly, their parents. Featuring a "surfer vibe," the Seaside Park location is adorned with framed prints of local waves, beaches, and surfers and always has appropriate music playing (such as Jack Johnson and his progeny), both of which serve as magnet for teenagers. On the Shore, the key to success is to offer a cool environment in which kids can hang out (as they can't go to bars), and as a result of the vibe, guerrilla marketing techniques, and word of mouth over the years, the proprietors of Surf Taco should be commended for having the foresight to devise such a concept. Now, the food, which I will not blanket with accolades. An obvious measure of a meal is the ingredients that are used, and unfortunately, it is clear that Surf Taco does not use high-quality inputs. I've had a variety of tacos and burritos here over the years--all were filling, but all were average at best--and it is clear that the quality is lacking, as the chicken and "steak" are generally flaky, fatty, and overall bland. Give the rice and beans to someone who is accustomed to eating Latin food, and they'll probably take a bite and stop eating them. The salsa bar, however, is good, and you really can't go wrong with the tortilla chips. At a place this is so high volume and has such a dedicated following, prices should be commensurate with sales, but at Surf Taco, with mediocre food, prices are slightly higher than better establishments. Granted, at this location, the business is seasonal and is generally busy, so maybe the owners see the pricing as appropriate, but I'm not going to pay a premium for a "meh" burrito. The bottom line is that, as a result of its proven formula, the Seaside Surf Taco should continue to be successful, because there will always be a critical of mass of teenagers eager to "experience" the vibe. read more

I'm giving 2 stars because the service was fine. Nice kid at the register. The food was horrible!! We went for lunch on break at work. I had steak fajitas. My guy had the Surf Burrito w fish. Fajitas had nice red yellow and green peppers and red onions. But there was absolutely no flavor in any of it. Even the guacamole was just completely bland. My guy is having stomach pains from the fish he thinks. His tasted horrible. I peeked in the back in the kitchen. The "chef" looked to be about 18 years old. Seriously. Surf Taco boasts an extensive menu which may be a little overwhelming for a first time customer. I've tried several items over the years but I'm a big fan of the Cali wrap. Excellent food- the burritos are huge and tasty and you can ask for a simple beef-cheese-lettuce-tomato as opposed to the huge choices from the menu and its totally RAD! The waffle fries and cheese were a great appy! The best HEALTH food on the island and great to look at service gals-looks like a family works there and they are all cute and gorgeous and always smiling and helpful at the counter. I've been coming to this place for some years now, since visiting my friend at the Jersey Shore. Came here today for the first time all summer, and as always wasn't dissapointed. I go tthe sunset burrito, filled with breaded chicken, beans, jack & cheddar cheeses, lettuce, pico de gallo & ranch dressing it totally hits the spot after not eating thanks to a 2 hour train ride from NYC. They throw in some chips and you have a choice of mild-extra hot sauces that are available on the side. The decor of the place makes you think that you are in southern california instead of the jersey shore, with the tie-dye style shirts of the workers to the surfing pictures and posters spread out through the establishment. Surf Taco is awesome. We vacation on the Jersey shore every summer and eat there almost every day for lunch. There is a large selection of delicious Mexican food which is way better than the garden variety restaurants that you find in the average strip mall. I'm particularly partial to the teriyaki chicken taco with pineapple! They have shrimp tacos also if you're into that. There is an assortment of fresh salsas from which to choose.
