Clean rooms, great view, great location, my only problem is, I smoke, which is a terrible habit which I'm trying to rid myself of, regardless, upon checking in a maintenance worker took it upon himself to aggressively yell at me that surfcomber was a non smoking hotel as I lit a cigarette in the parking lot, that there were cigarette smoking sections and then told me to "now extinguish that cigarette."While slamming the door to the front office and retreating to whence he came, the rudest check in to a hotel in my 50 years on this planet, as a Marriott employer for 16 years if I ever treated a guest this way I would have been at the least written up, I have spent the rest of my stay thinking of this not so gentlemanly treatment so it's hard to relax. read more

My wife and I spent a weekend at the Surfcomber. We have vacationed at the Cape at least a dozen times over the past 35+ years. The Surfcomber caught our attention as it is mid-Cape and on the beach-two plusses for us. We were very happy with the hotel, staff and location. The room was spacious (2 queens and a small kitchen) and clean. Grounds are well kept and staff is very friendly. There is no restaurant on site but several are very close by. We enjoyed the private beach, which was a short walk from our room. I would recommend the Surfcomber as a nice no frills hotel with great beach access. Loved it! Just got home yesterday after a wonderful 4 nights stay at this gem of a place! Loved the layout with the pool and the ocean close together. Several chaise lounge chairs facing the ocean were an added bonus and the perfect spot for my morning coffee or later in the evening. The staff were all so friendly and accommodating. The entire property was clean and well kept. Staff was always cleaning, organizing or taking care of the landscape. Office offers complimentary coffee each morning. All in all, a great place at a great location. Definitely out new favorite spot on the Cape! See you next summer, Surfcomber! read more

Grounds are well maintained and you can't beat the proximity to the private beach. Some rooms have better views than others, but all close to the beach and pool. The staff was very friendly! read more

Stayed here for my first post-pandemic retreat, and I was truly delighted. First of all, Pat at the front desk is a sweetheart. We stayed in a huge room with the kitchenette. It was clean and adequate. Loved having a private deck facing the ocean, and we watched all the cute bunny yards in the backyard. We made our meals in the kitchenette, and everything we wanted was in the cabinets. It was super easy to spend the day at the beach, just steps away, and then have an afternoon dip in the pool. And best of all...shuffleboard! This was super fun and a nice surprise. We walked to the hotel next door and played with their cornhole game too! I appreciate that this is a small hotel with not too many rooms. I would definitely come back. read more

Tonight will be our third night here at the Surfcomber, and I have to say I am very pleased. In my experience, hotels on the water can be hit or miss. The Surfcomber is all hit! The feel of the beach stays of my childhood, but clean, and neat as a pin, no musty smell, and with a lovely little beach just outside. We stayed in room 16 which has an excellent view with 2 chairs on the shared 2nd floor balcony - not ocean front, but 'ocean enough'! Clean and neat, the bathroom fixtures are freshly updated and beds firm. Carpeting is indoor-outdoor, and clean. Free mini fridge, wifi, cable, and a phone for local calls along with a K-cup machine for that first morning cup of coffee complete the space. There's a pool and shuffleboard along with an outdoor seating area overlooking the sound, with stairs down to the water. Lovely! This was not my first choice, but it's an excellent one and I am glad we came! read more

This place was not worth the drive from NYC/ Westchester, not even a little bit. Small pool, tiny beach, out dated everything. The woman who ran the front desk was incredibly rude. They also clearly have parties that have been coming for years, which they give preference to. Rules apply some, but not others. If you're looking for a family friendly beach spot, this is not it. read more

I've stayed here many times over the years and the Pro's outweigh the cons. Its neat... the grounds are well kept. The pool is nice and well kept. I always get the 2 queens with kitchen room and request the 1'st floor. Usually we have multiple family members in multiple rooms. The rooms are clean but not fancy. TV is OK but not great. The biggest pro is the price. Its a little high for what it is BUT shop around. Its the best price we could find for a place right on the ocean. The cons fall into two areas. 1) It has free internet but it is very weak. You will not get service on the beach and is only 1 or 2 bars even in the rooms. Its a simple fix if they would spend a little money for a booster. Con 2) The ocean - not much they can do about it but the water is always choked with seaweed and not that clear. Most kids dont want to go in it. It washes up on the beach at high tide and there is always a line of weed as the tide goes down. The beach above the weed is fine. The sand in the water is rough with shells and small rocks. If you want pristine beaches... go further east on the ocean. Of course white sharks stalk those beaches so maybe the seaweed isnt so bad? There are no seals and no sharks in South Yarmouth. We lounge on the beach and swim in the pool read more

False advertising for the queen bed, beach bedroom view. I booked two months in advance but they gave me a view of the other side of the wall (beach to the left and behind that wall). Their inn set up is a u shape. I would have paid half the price for the same view at another location. We booked two nights. Never again will I rebook or recommend this place. They had other rooms --- empty. They rather leave the room empty than to accommodate reasonably. read more

I'd like to say 4 stars, but I just cant justify it due to my experience the first night. The second we opened the door to the room (a "superior" efficiency) we were hit in the face with the usual smell of an oceanside motel. Damp musty wet carpet smell. I immediately opened all the windows, cleaned the AC filter out, and went out to the beach. Came back at night and it was still pretty bad, so I mentioned to the person at the front desk, hoping that maybe this was just a bad room (ground floor with a patio - the carpet was wet at the patio, door, and bathroom area). The dresser drawers were unusable due to their smell. The response I got was an immediate "yea thats just how it is, some days its worse than others". So I pushed back a little more and said what about some other rooms, maybe second floor or something, and she said they are all like that. I walked back to the room defeated, and just suffered through the night with the smell. Second day the room did air out a bit and the smell was much more tolerable, but I still didn't like the automatic "thats just how it is" response I got. We ended up staying an extra night, but since it was last minute and not planned had to switch rooms to a smaller room, but still on the 1st floor. This room didn't smell and was noticeably cleaner. On the upsides, the grounds were very well kept, pool was clean (but small - but who cares ocean was a stone throw away). All of the other staff were pretty helpful and friendly, and they were accommodating with the room switching procedure. Location was very good, right on the water, right in the middle of the cape, pretty much an hour drive or less to anywhere on cape cod you would want to go. Price for the high season was more reasonable than the adjacent hotels, which all seem pretty similar - but you are paying for the location, not the room. Both rooms we had were efficiencies and generously sized. read more

Would not hesitate to return. It's a small resort but you have a pool and private beach. Rooms are very clean and beds comfortable. You can walk to Skippers and the other resort restaurants. read more

We stayed here over the 4th of July weekend and our experience was excellent. The property is meticulously maintained, the staff is incredibly friendly and the beds are super comfortable. We enjoyed a little efficiency in room 18A which I highly recommend if you don't mind a small room with beautiful ocean views with a great price. I have been recommending this place to all of my friends here in NY and we will definitely stay here again some time. read more

Just returned from a week on the Cape and found a jewel. Stopped at the Surfcomber to see if rooms were available. We were shown two rooms, and given great rates. Planned on staying one night but booked for two, and ended up adding a third. Right on the ocean, not crowded, family owned and friendly. Plan on going back again. read more

Booked a weekend getaway here based on reviews. Great location! We were able to explore a ton on the cape from this centrally located spot. Great service and very clean rooms, and I have extreme OCD. I just spent a wonderful few days here at the end of the season. The Surfcomber is right on the water. We had ocean views from our room and it was so easy to get to the beach every day. They also have lounge chairs set up on the lawn if you don't want to get sandy (though they could be a whole lot more comfortable!). The staff is friendly and helpful. Our room was comfortable and clean, complete with flat panel TV and a Keurig machine! They are described as a green hotel, which includes encouraging guests to reuse towels, turn out lights and AC when leaving, etc. They provide lots of recycling bins throughout the hotel as well. Unfortunately most people seem to disregard their request about turning out the AC when they are not in their rooms; we were never in our room without hearing the loud buzz of air conditioning. (It was cool enough that we were able to leave ours off the whole time....not sure why no one else did!) While we were there, the beach wasn't too crowded, though I imagine that earlier in the season, while school is out, there are more families, kids, etc. running around. read more

Stayed for a week at the Surfcomber on the Ocean. If you are looking for a relaxing vacation in your own efficiency unit, making your own meals by shopping at the close by grocery markets, or walking down the beach to the local restaurant, this is the place. Love the modern furniture, fridge/micro combination appliances, maximizing the space. The hotel offers outstanding customer service from the front desk staff, ground maintenance staff keeping everything perfect, and updated exceptionally clean updated rooms. Best room brochure I have ever seen and if you still need more information, just ask. Take your choice, the room 10 feet from the ocean, or a very short walk to the heated pool. The lounge chairs overlooking the beach, don't disappoint. The pictures on their website are true and up-to-date. Excellent location for 10 minute trip to Hyannis, and centrally located for all parts of Cape Cod. Dreaming of that cape cod grass flowing beaches, quiet, warm waters, this is perfect for a couple or family.
