BEST CHICKEN AROUND TOWN! I had the Carne Asada and 1/2 Chicken plate, and I couldn't get enough of it! The chicken was juicy and made a great combo with rice and beans. Portions are BIG and definitely worth your Dollar! HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE IN THE AREA.

    Surfing' Chicken.

I wanted to love this place. Tucked into a sun-faded strip mall off the 5, somewhere between the forgotten promise of Southern California and the smell of old brake pads, sits Surfin' Chicken--a place that whispers "family-owned" and "hard-earned" the moment you step in. The sign out front is probably older than some of the customers. The inside? Sparse. Worn. A little sad. But I don't judge a burrito by the furniture. My colleague, bless his smug burrito-wielding soul, walked into the office earlier holding what smelled like Mexico wrapped in foil. Grilled chicken, peppers, spices--before he even cracked the seal, it punched the air like a mariachi band on a mission. I was sold. I needed that burrito like a man crawling through the desert needs water. So I drove. Past five other burrito joints I already know and trust. Why? Because hope is a hell of a drug. At the counter, a woman chopped chicken with surgical precision, mixing it with beans, peppers, cilantro--doing the work. I watched as the tortilla betrayed her with a crack. And instead of mailing it in and wrapping the damage in foil, she tossed it, fired up a new one, and rebuilt the thing from scratch. That's not fast food. That's pride. Thirteen bucks out the door. Pricey, but that's the world we live in now. I took it back to the office like it was the Holy Grail. And then I bit into it. And nothing happened. No explosion of flavor. No punch of spice. No joy. It was as if someone had gone to the trouble of making a burrito, then removed all evidence of seasoning and soul before serving it. It wasn't bad. But that was the problem. It wasn't anything. There are few culinary sins greater than blandness--especially when all signs pointed to greatness. I wanted to give this place five stars. I wanted to be its champion. But food is about memory, about moment--and this one left me with nothing. Three stars. One for the effort. One for the tortilla re-do. And one for the ghost of a burrito that might've been.

I was looking for a quick bite before going to the San Clemente outlets and saw Surfin' Chicken Grill on Yelp. What a great recommendation for lunch. It is less than a 5 min drive from the outlets and close to the freeway. Nice size parking lot, dining space inside and outside the restaurant. It is a small shop inside a dying strip mall, but don't let that dissuade you from going. I got the half chicken and a small side of pinto beans. The total was about $14. The fresh roasted chicken, they drizzle a yummy garlic sauce on chicken before serving, came with 4 corn tortillas, a tiny cup of salsa (could have used more, but they charge for extra), some lettuce and guacamole. Chicken was flavorful though the breast meat was a little dry so the garlic drizzle and salsa helped a lot in the tacos I made. Will come again when I return to the area.

First of all, the food and selection of food here is actually really good. I had a fish burrito and the family got chicken and salmon. Everything was delicious! For my first visit here ever, service was slow (very slow). I'm only giving a higher rating because I enjoyed the food. When we got here it was almost noon and the employee informed us that there was a delay on the chicken being ready. It ended up taking 30 minutes for our orders to get to us either way without chicken items. Maybe this was a bad day for the store, but some lady who ordered after me kept asking the staff about her order. Yikes. Luckily for them, we're patient people. I wouldn't definitely come back because of the food, but if the service is always slow like today I will let you guys know.

Chicken is perfectly cooked. The portions are good size quintessential rotisserie chicken with all the sauces. Tasty.

Bad to the Bone BBQ is actually Great to the Bone!!…read more Came here on 4th of July for one of their holiday feasts. It was a huge box filled with delicious bbq for the whole family! It came with 2lbs of brisket, 2 racks of ribs, 1lb of sausage, 24 pieces of bbq chicken, coleslaw, cornbread, mac n cheese, homemade potato chips, a peach cobbler, and a gallon of lemonade! The brisket was perfectly cooked with a nice smokey flavor and quite juicy. The house sausage was great, I could eat it every day. The chicken was so good with just a bit of char for that nice grilled taste. The ribs were amazing! They fell off the bone and had a perfect bite to them. Their bbq sauce is really good too, not too sweet yet smokey. Coleslaw was good and fresh. The mac n cheese was gooey and so cheesy. The chips were actually really nice, crispy, and salty. The cornbread was delicious especially with their whipped honey butter on top. For dessert I couldn't ask for a better bite than from the peach cobbler with their homemade whipped cream on top. The staff were all so nice when I went to pick up my order. Even though they were swamped for the holiday they were calm and did everything with a smile. There were 2 dining rooms that I saw so it looks like a ton of space. There's also a whole display where you can grab some bbq sauce or hot sauce to buy. Thanks Bad to the Bone for making our America 250 Independence Day so special!

Unfortunately I had a horrible experience on every front here yesterday…read more Ordered online through their website and it does not tell you the total until after you have paid. It also changed the tip I entered to auto apply their own tip. After I paid, it showed me my total that they already collected payment for PLUS the tip they decided they wanted to force me to add. How could this be legal? I immediately called the restaurant but no one was answering the phone. Went to the restaurant and explained the situation to the cashier who told me I am the second person today to complain about this! She was unable to refund the tip that they took the liberty of applying themselves but I left my phone number and am still waiting to hear from the manager, otherwise I will have to take this up with my bank. Now for the food, I ordered a brisket sandwich and a side of mac and cheese. The brisket was not trimmed and it's inedible unless you like a mouthful of fat in every bite. Every single slice of brisket on my sandwich was just a slab of fat with a little meat hidden inside. I had to clean it myself and once I did there was barely any meat in my sandwich. I am attaching photos so you can see how pathetic it looks. Had I dined at the restaurant I would've sent this back or shown them how much fat I removed and asked them to bring me the equivalent in MEAT not fat, which I paid for! I would love to hear from management about what happened here regarding the deceptive pricing. As far as the food, not sure if they just have gotten lazy and don't trim their meat anymore but anyone who knows bbq knows the effort needed to properly clean brisket and that was certainly overlooked here. $25 total for a fat sandwich and a side of super oily mac and cheese. Definitely not happy in the slightest.

Just very very casual and not totally comfortable. Food- 3.4/4 out of 5 - I got the Luau plate and LOVED the chicken!! Everyone else was right- that chicken thigh deserves its own plate. I also really enjoyed the coconut pudding/jello thing that came with it and the sausage link. The pulled pork was just okay, not very well seasoned but not bad. The side of "dressed greens" was just some lettuce without dressing on it, and I thought the macaroni salad was fine. The last thing that really disappointed me were the sautéed veggies :/ they were just soo oily and had no seasoning to them at all. I didn't eat any of them or the un-dressed 'salad'. My husband got the chicken katsu plate, he said the chicken katsu was fine but the fries on the side were cold and not crispy, they were kind of chalky in the mouth and didn't taste fresh. Some parts were definitely a 3/5 but my chicken thigh was so good and the portions are *huge* so I feel like they deserve a 4/5? All in all, I think I'd come back if I wanted to go out with someone but save some money and we'd split one of the plates (the portions really are huge).

My only issue, was that the veggie burger made me super gassy, which is not the fault of the restaurant at all- they did what they are supposed to do- make the food I ordered, make good suggestions, and let me enjoy their beautiful patio happily- hence 5 stars... but man... the farts. That was surprising. They had a bunch of housemade sauces. I would not suggest the homemade ketchup. It's more like a homemade tomato sauce, which is a weird thing to dip fries into. As for the rest of the sauces, I would for sure pour them into my mouth. And a hard yes to the strawberry shake. That tasted like it was made from actual strawberries.

Had my father in law asked for more ice tea and they never even started a new pitcher in 15 minutes. It was not busy. The place had a to of gluten free options which is a reason I wanted to try it. My server had no idea what gluten was. For a place that had half the menu marked as gluten free I was really surprised she really had no knowledge of the menu, but she was nice enough to go ask some questions when i pressed a bit that I wasn't vegan, and it was like an allergy. The food was good, portions were large enough and everything was pretty good as far as the food. Nice little dining area with various tables. I had to take a moment to read the menu before I decided. The counter clerk was very nice and patient as I figured out what I wanted. The experience with him was 4.5 stars, as the 2 stars shown is purely about the food. I ended up ordering a curry chicken katsu bowl with the curry on the side and then a side of the gravy so I could try both. I went and filled up my ridiculously expensive diet coke and found a seat. The cost was $4.50 for a large (?) diet coke. $4.50! Four dollar bills and two quarters! Don't believe me? Check out the receipt picture. That was half the cost of the food. For Diet Coke! OK, enough... The wait was not too long before my name was called. The bowl was pretty small, but they had other options that would certainly get you more food, but this size was good for me at this point. Key points: Chicken Katsu - very thin, so tasted mostly like crunchy batter Curry Sauce - one of my favorite sauces in the world, and this one had zero, none, zilch taste. I was thinking I had covid, since it just tasted like thick water. I tried some soy sauce to prove I could taste and my taster was working OK. Gravy - hard to believe, but this one may have had less taste, or equally no taste. Again, I thought of thick water. Ponzu Sauce or similar - had taste and ended up being my main source of flavor Steam Vegetables - poor guys, they were steamed to oblivion and the taste with them, softly melted in my mouth (and that's not a compliment) Rice - decent, rice cooker rice. I spruced it up with soy and sriracha My fantasy of having some OK Hawaiian food was dashed. Look, it's fast food Hawaiian and even in HI it does not compare to good, hometown spots with GREAT food but it's OK for a quick bite when touring around the Islands. This version did not compare to what I had experienced in Hawaii. I sometimes go back to check consistency and will do the same here. They are still relatively new, so some slack and another visit to check my review score is the right thing to do. Hand Loose. Try in the future. Wish Them Luck!
