So a little back ground we are patients from the elk Grove location that came to this one in an emergency when my five year old non verbal, profoundly autistic son broke a tooth. They not only got him in they were speedy and seem bothered they couldn't move faster to get this resolved and it wasn't even a three day time from us coming to be evaluated to when his tooth was pulled to issue resolved he's on the mend at home. The staff wasn't just knowledgeable they were professional, caring and kind. They took they time to fully evaluate my little guy even though he was trying to elope and scream through their building. They were totally understanding that this was just out of his little wheel house of remotely ok and they strove to figure out how best to sooth and connect with a child who will do everything in his power when hurt to not do that. They also knew when to lay off and let him be. It was all really impressive. When I became over whelmed and started to cry the doctor made me feel human and that she saw I was a mother doing the best I could while my son was rolling on the ground in the parking lot refusing to come in. When we did bring him in it was sooo fast maybe 15 minutes he was back there till when we were told to come back. He was already waking up and trying to sit up. He was immediately much calmer and seemed like he was no where in the same ball park for pain. All meds were sent promptly and correctly to the right pharmacy of asking and the reception staff helped me fight my insurance and when a mix up happened on our end with receiving drop off time for procedure they still after hours found a way to help us know when to come in at opening to see if they could get him in and they did. Zero additude, no gruff and just understanding why and what happens to make us miss the call. THEY ARE AMAZING, honestly just couldn't sing higher praises, they really went above and beyond and this will be the only play we go to now for dental surgery and sedation, who also might I add are just amazing their team that Handel's sedation are just fantastic and are so carefully with the littles. read more

I'm heartbroken to write this review. I have been taking my kids here for years. But this last cleaning will be our last visit. They used to be amazing. I started brining my kids here because my oldest is on the spectrum. I don't know what has changed but the last couple of times I've been there it has left a lot to be desired. They used to be so gentle and understanding with my special needs kiddo and now some of the hygienist ( not all of them) are kind of borderline rude. This last time she told my kid to stop moving and something about acting her age. She's really good at listening but is on the spectrum. They have also had new dentists in there that I have just not been super impressed with. Their carpet could also use a deep cleaning. Anywho, We miss Dr. Jenny. Absolute unacceptable treatment towards a 12 year old child. While my daughter getting her teeth cleaning she asked the hygienist NISHA to use the suction hose to collect the plac and saliva, "NISHA responds you know how to swallow right!" Why would any professional and loving dentist firm allow this. Lady should not have a job after this kind of treatment. Horrible service and will never come back again. To top it off they mentioned they sent us to collections for no payment in February to get transferred to Dawn and find out " Sorry we made a mistake you did pay" Staff isn't the same and business definitely not the same. This dental office is so welcoming and fun! This is the second time we have taken our 3 year old here and the whole office was decorated in a "Coco" theme complete with "Coco" playing on every TV for Halloween. There are plenty of activities in the waiting room such as puzzles and even computers with gaming equipment. They also have a really pretty fish tank in the waiting room! They offer free coffee and water too! The Dental Assistants and Dentists are all really friendly, patient and sympathetic which makes it a great experience for the kids. They have a little cubby area where kids can pick out a toy after their appointment which I think is very cute. They also take a picture of your kid before the appointment and print it out with the info for their next appointment and attach it to a magnet for your fridge instead of them just putting the appointment info on a business card like most dental places do where you're likely to lose it before the next appointment! I'm so glad my sister in law suggested this place! Take your little's here - you won't be disappointed! read more

This place is the absolute BEST! My daughter was having severe tooth pain to the point she was up every hour on the hour for a week straight. I have really good insurance through my job as well as Liberty Dental Medi-Cal and it was taking me forever to get her seen by the general dentist she was assigned through Liberty. As soon as we were seen and referred to Surfside, they did EVERYTHING in their power to get her in as soon as possible. The soonest appointment was still 7 days away so they made some calls and set up a special appointment for her the very next day. This is by far the BEST dentist office that I have EVER taken my children to. I've been to 3 different pediatric dental offices (Kids Care included) and this one supersedes BY FAR. Every. Single. One. Matter of fact, I've waited for over 2 years to get my children seen here (insurance restrictions as a new state employee). All of the staff is very attentive, nurturing and very respectful of the children and parents. The Dentists and Dental Hygienists are very informative, answer all of my questions and make sure that all of my concerns are tended to so that I'm at ease and my kids are at ease. The inside is very child friendly and decorated very nicely with a Hawaiian/ surf theme. The children can watch movies with headphones while being worked on so they are easily distracted from what's taking place in their mouths. My 8 year old had first filling and she never saw a needle she was told they were using numbing drops to make the tooth sleepy, they exposed her to the tools and explained everything. Experience here started out great, however now that we are in orthodontics side, everything has gone way downhill. The orthodontist has changed about 3 times since starting treatment a year and a half ago. They have extremely limited appointments making it very difficult for parents who work.. I don't feel like there has been any communication in regards to his treatment plan, and due to cancellation of appointments or lack of availability, his treatment seems to have been prolonged. To add to the frustration, the first trays for Invisalign were incorrect, extending his tx for another month.. again lack of communication of plan and what to expect. When the correct trays were available, my son needed rubber bands, however the process of using the bands and how to place them was not explained and now we have no idea how to do it. (Parent could. It be present due to work meeting) Also my son stated that as they were fitting his new trays, they kept making mistakes and they were not confident in what they were doing.. that is coming from a 12 year old boy which is concerning.. if he can notice a lack of confidence, then there's something up.. I need to call office and ask them to explain. That is just not acceptable. Clear communication is vital. It just doesn't seem like there is much experience with Invisalign and it would be so much better if orthodontist had more time to explain and talk to patients and their parents. Pretty disappointed. Please work on communication and expand appointment availability. read more

THE LONG My daughter came to Surfside after going AWOL from dentist trips for a years and a half (I know, bad mom). The waiting room has everything you could imagine to keep your children occupied--a movie is always playing, there is a room with video games and computers, or if you aren't crazy about "screen time", they have some more traditional play such as books and bead mazes. Before their dental cleaning, each child takes a photo on their surfboard while "riding a wave" and it comes home as a magnet appointment reminder. My daughter was understandably anxious, but the staff made sure to take their time with her and ensure her comfort rather than rushing to keep her on their schedule (which did not delay any appointments). After her exam, they even gave her a balloon to prove they are the good girls! So neat. The exam itself was so thorough, which we did not have with our last dentist. I left feeling like they had really made sure to catch everything. The child is able to pick virtually any Disney movie they want and it plays during the cleaning and exam to make sure they are distracted and less anxious. And of COURSE she got to pick a prize from their amazing prize wall after it was all done :) read more

This place is AMAZING!! I am so glad that I decided to switch pediatric dentists and check this place out. I don't know who was more giddy about this awesome underwater oasis, me or my daughter. The office is amazing but the staff are even better. My daughter has struggled with brushing and flossing her teeth on her own and it's like pulling teeth to get her to do it. She was so happy with her visit yesterday and the doctor and DA had a very nice long conversation with her about why it's important that she floss and brush two times a day. Finally someone broke through to her because she was really excited to brush her teeth (at night) last night which she never ever wanted to do. My daughter and I had an amazing experience with Surfside office and their staff! My daughter and I have gone to several pediatric dental offices and no one has made her feel as comfortable as Jahara and Dr. Jenny. My daughter Aleena was cooperative and allowed Jahara who was excellent with her to complete x-rays and check her mouth (count her teeth). Jahara was patient, encouraging and genuine with my daughter. Dr. Jenny was great too and she answered all my questions and concerns thoroughly. She took the time to assure me and explain the procedures my daughter needed. The front staff Melissa was amazing too, she was friendly and approachable. Before taking your child back they take a picture of your child on their surf board and they print it on your way out as a reminder of your follow up appointment. Very clever!! Thank you so much Surfside. We had the worst experience with another dentist near our house and were so stressed as to what our options were at that point. We found Surfside on Google and quickly scheduled an appointment. They saw us on a Monday and setup an appointment for our son that Thursday. They notified us not only would they NOT have to do oral surgery but no anesthetics were even needed. They gave our son a photo of himself for his follow up(which he adored) and showed him the utmost care and attention. I have been taking my kids to the land park office for years. The dentist are fantastic and the staff and hygienist are super friendly. My youngest had a tiny cavity and the dentist fixed it without my son knowing, he was calm the whole time. Ortho is low-end, like the ortho docs are trying to get their hours and experience before moving on to a higher-end office. The techs are ok- some nicer than others, but all slow as molasses. What should be a quick 15-20 minute check can take as long as 45 mins- 1 hour. Office is designed for toddlers. It's obnoxious, loud, and I expect germ- filled. Dentist is ok...nothing special. Where do I start: - The only times I can get appointment is during school time, so I have to take my son out of school for anything dentist related. - My son's expander bracket broke on a weekend and we called the emergency line and didn't get a call back till the next day. Her excuse was she was charging her phone! - If you go to their Land Park location and you really need to see them on the days they are at their Elk Grove location, they won't even try to fit you in, they insist you wait till they are back in the Land Park location. Our 4 yo daughter needed some dental work and we had just changed insurance companies so based on the reviews we decided to give Surf Side a chance. She needed more work than what any parent would be proud of but we obviously wanted to do whatever we could to get our child's teeth healthy again. We were told she would need to be put under general anesthesia to address the issues. After educating our selves we decided to question this and we suggested a less extreme approach. We were basically told no because a 4 yo can't hold still and that she would have to under go 5 appointments at about 1.5 hours each. We know our child better than any one and we were confident she would do well with Nitro (Laughing Gas). We decided to take her for a second opinion and we are so happy we did! We went with a different dental office that had a dentist with better bedside manner and trusted us as parents to give our daughter the chance she deserved rather than putting her at unnecessary risk. Our daughter did fabulous and was able to get half of her work done in one visit. To me offering GA as a solution to a child not wanting to sit still is lazy and irresponsible. If you are a pediatric dental office you should take the time to work with the child no matter how inconvenient it could be for you. Trust parents if they think their child is capable. The staff was friendly and assistance were very good with children but the dentist lacked in that area. Don't be fooled by the bells and whistles of this place.. Do your research, know what your options are and never just trust ANY dental office to know what's best for YOUR child. Note: They have anesthesiologist come to the facility during the procedure which at first I thought was good thing until educating our selves of all the risks involved. I personally would have much rather been at the hospital in case something went wrong. read more

I was a little nervous about our 2 year old because she's never been before but the RDA Angie spent time with her playing with all the instruments to get her comfortable. My boys all want to go when it's the other ones appt. all the staff is wonderful and the Drs are second to none. To see my kids so happy to be at the dentist is a blessing. I love Surfside and have been a happy patient since I began orthodontic treatment Feb 2017! The front office staff has always been friendly and accommodating. My braces were removed last week and honestly it was bitter-sweet to part with them. Dr. Binh Tran and Virginia were amazing, these two answered all of my questions, discussed my treatment with me respectfully, and when it came to hands-on they "pampered" me! I mean let's face it dental appointments aren't something we all look forward to but the care that was given to me eased all of the fear and anxiety about dental work that I came in with. They opened their practice to accepting all adult patients for ortho and I would definitely recommend them. My youngest will need treatment in the near future and we will return to Surfside! Really wouldn't be upset to get braces put back on.... A good movie was always playing, I felt like my time was always respected! I truly felt like part of the family whenever I arrived. read more

I have been coming to the orthodontics area of this particular surfside kids dental since I was 16 and might I say that all the staff have been such a big help. Virginia has seen that my teeth gone from a zero to a ten in the short four years I have been here. She has the most gentle touch with me and it really helps when she handling the sensitive work that is orthodontics. This was my daughter's 2nd dentist visit and first time at Surfside. We were really dreading this because her first visit to a dentist was a disaster. The dentist office we had originally taken her to had no business dealing with Children. This visit was a completely different story. The waiting room has so much fun stuff for kids to do. They've got a giant sand castle kids can play inside of, video games, computers, toys, salt water fish tanks, you name it. The staff at the front desk were very welcoming and friendly and the wait was very short. In no time our dental hygienist was taking our daughter back for her first set of X-rays which went swimmingly (no pun intended) Our daughter sometimes has problems sitting still like most 4 years olds but they worked some kid magic on her and get her to sit through the rays like a champ. You'll have to forgive me but I don't remember our Dental Hygienist's name but she was the true star of this place. My wife and our were amazed a how good she was at connecting with our daughter. If only teachers and child care professionals where that in tune with kids the world would be a better place. Okay I'm getting a little off track here haha... So yeah, they've got cool chairs were my daughter got to lay back and stair at a TV in the ceiling while they cleaned her teeth and the area seamed open and warm not cold, scary, and sterile like most dental offices. The dentist was nice, friendly, and to the point, and answered all the questions we had. All in all I would say the big take away from this place in that my daughter was asking if she could go back to the dentist on the car ride home. Well, we love Surfside. There's literally nothing to complain about. My five year old was terrified to go to the dentist, and even though he's had two fillings at the office so far, he *still* gets excited when I tell him we have a dentist appt (!)
