COMPLETE NIGHTMARE! My brother's bridal party had their suits made here. What a disaster!!! My husband (6 foot 1, 200 pounds) suit was two sizes too small! I had to go there the day BEFORE the wedding to get them to readjust. He couldn't move and the pants were two inches too short! My brother's best man's suit was too small too! I'm not going to lie... this whole process was pretty frustrating and I'm going to be totally honest in the hopes that my comments may benefit someone someday. To start, my first measuring and design appointment was June 8, 2014. Today is Aug 21 and I have finally received my suit. That's a full month later than the estimated delivery date I was given when I paid my deposit. After agonizing over fabric choices and options, I had finally made my decision and gotten to the end (I thought) of the process when I was told my fabric was backordered. I was told maybe they could find some and bring it in and to just go home and I would hear from someone. Then I was told I had to pretty much start over as the fabric just didn't exist. Why was that sample even available to choose from? So upon visit #2 I made my new choices and we proceeded from there. Then I got the email that my suit was ready. I went in all excited to try it on and see how it looked. (visit #3) Well, it looked pretty bad. More measurements were taken, pins were stuck in and I left. Then I got another email about a week after that, saying my alterations were complete. So I came in again (visit #4) and asked for my suit. I waited around and someone came out with my jacket, my pants were "missing". So trip #4 was a total waste of my time. Visit #5 I hoped would be better, and I was assured this time both my pants and jacket were there and ready to try on. When I got there and put it on, I was pretty disappointed. Someone (Haseeb is his name) came over to me and said "How do you feel in this suit?" and he walked around me in a circle shaking his head. It was a disaster. I said, "I'm not sure. I'm not too happy with it at all" Nothing fit me at all. We decided it was beyond hope and the only thing we could do was start over from scratch! More measurements were taken by Haseeb. I left, feeling pretty disheartened by the whole experience by now. Visit 6 was yesterday. The suit finally fit fine, but there was a pretty big stain on the right sleeve just above the cuff. Not exactly what I'd like to see on a brand new custom made suit I've never worn. So Haseeb sent it to the cleaners and I left. Visit 7 was today and I was finally able to take it home with me, a full 2 months and 2 weeks after placing the order. I feel like I must say that out of everyone who helped me in my 7 visits to the Toronto store, only Haseeb was useful. Shop around. Their prices are low, yes. But you get what you pay for. Give yourself lots of extra time! I must say, however that their choices of fabrics and linings and custom options are pretty impressive and you'll have a lot of fun designing your own suit. And also, even though the experience itself was a bit unpleasant, I did receive my suit in time for the occasion I needed it for, (only because I started it almost 3 months before the date) and it does look pretty sharp. I find it very difficult to find suits and shirts that fit. Off the rack is not an option for either if I want the fit to be correct. After several tries with Maxwells, IndoChino, Raja and a slew of other international and domestic tailors, only Harry Rosen was able to meet my expectations--but the price makes it tough to completely service all my wants and needs. After a few tests at SurMesur, I have been transformed into a loyal customer. Not only is their service the best of any tailor I've encountered, but their attention to detail is impeccable. The quality of the fabrics they use is second to none. I have now replaced all my casual blazers, formal suits and the majority of my dress and casual shirts. I'm now replacing my suits one by one--soon enough, everything I put on will be from this store. I share the same sentiments as the previous posters with 2 or less stars. When stepping into the store is looks chic, modern and trendy but once they have you on the hook you soon realize that they are merely a chop shop not custom tailors. It takes a lot more then just wearing a measuring tape around your neck to be a custom tailor. Understanding that you generally always get what you pay for our bridal party decided to upgrade the quality of the fabric and added details such as interior lining piping and sticking (all at an additional cost) The total price came in around $500 which is very low for a custom suit, which this was not and quite high for a Zara/H&M quality suit. On the first fitting the 3 of us were astounded on how far off the measurements were and questioned if these were in fact our suits. Pants to short/long, jacket selves were too short/long..the list goes on. That said and understanding it is a custom suit requiring at least one fitting we all went back a second time to retry the suits. To our dismay some of the alterations were not even done, others were done to an extreme which meant that previous jacket that was too long was now too short. Then the attention to details were all but forgotten in that they extended my jacket and removed all the buttons including the eyelets for the buttons and when they placed them back on they did not put the eyelets back and merely sewed the buttons back on. Due to the numerous amount of pressing on the suits there were a number of creases on the lapels and sleeves which were quite noticeable. I had advised them prior to getting the suit that I would be requiring another 9 suits for my own wedding thinking that they would pay greater attention to detail and customer service considering this opportunity. That said I guarantee you I will not be going here to get them. If I wanted to get a suit like this I would much rather go to Zara and bring it to get altered and call that custom tailoring instead of a place like this. (with update: 12/7/15) Before taking my business here, I had read a ton of mixed reviews. I decided to give it a shot anyway, and not write a review until my entire experience was complete. That has yet to be the case, but my experience warrants a review now. I came to Surmesur mid-September looking for a made-to-measure suit for interviews. The person helping me was very kind, attentive, offered excellent advice, and was responsive to the styling that I was looking for. The entire experience was wonderful. I was told that the suit would be ready in 4-6 weeks, nearing the end of October. My interviews begin in November, so this timing would be perfect. (Experience 5/5) Having such a pleasant experience the first time at Surmesur, I went back about a month later (before I received my suit) to design a custom shirt. I was helped by two different people this time. The first person was very helpful, gave excellent advice, and was able to show me all of my options. Later when I was ready to design my shirt, he was busy, so I asked somebody else for help. (Experience 5/5) Nearing the final touch-ups on the computer, the person helping me had disappeared. So I finished designing the shirt on the computer on my own before he returned 10 minutes later. After designing the shirt, I was ready to get measured. The first time around, I got measured immediately, and it took about 5 minutes. This time around, I had to wait 45 minutes before someone was available to measure me. I now understand why there are mixed reviews for this place. (Experience 2/5) Regarding my suit: 6 weeks had passed, but I had yet to receive a call. So I ended up calling the store twice, but there were some vague nondescript issues. Bottom line was that my suit would not be ready for my interviews. That was the only reason I gave this place my business. I needed a suit for my interviews, and I was told that I would have it by then. Now, something's wrong, I don't have my suit, I don't have my money, and I don't even understand what went wrong in the process. My interviews begin next week, and I'll need to spend more money renting a suit now. (Experience 1/5) Update: It was a technological issue. The store does use new computer technology which allows a suit to be designed visually, which then gets sent off to the supplier. For some reason, my order did not get transmitted through. As most computers have issues, this was somewhat understandable. Once they caught it, it was too late, so my suit will be delayed 1-2 weeks. Although I don't have the suit that I originally paid for to wear on my interviews, the store manager went above and beyond to come up with a solution. The situation is not ideal, but the resolution is ideal, and what I would expect for this case. Initially, I was never coming back for any future business, but after showing how much they really care about their customers, and going above and beyond to resolve a unforeseen computer issue that was seemingly out of their control, I'm leaning towards giving Surmesur another shot. (Experience 5/5) Update 2: During my final fitting for both the suit and shirt, the garments looked excellent as I had pictured/designed it. They fit decently, requiring only minor alterations. The alterations were supposed to take an additional week. They provide gratuitous alterations within 60 days of pick-up, so I was going to take my suit unaltered to my next round of interviews before bringing it back for the final alteration. But showing that they put customers first, Surmesur expedited the alterations and had it ready the next evening. The fit is night and day from off-the-rack suits. Although the technical issue that occurred with my order seemed to be out of their control, Surmesur definitely stepped up to provide the best possible resolution for the situation. I recently had two suits made by the team at Surmesur Toronto. I was extremely satisfied with the guidance in creating and designing the suits, the measurements taken, and the final tailoring of the suit. Additionally, the team ensured every last detail was perfect until I was completely satisfied with the end product. On top of the great service in completing the suits, the team also was able to accommodate a last minute request I had regarding completing the suit for a family wedding I planned on attending. Despite being their busiest time of year (wedding season and all), they ensured that one of my suits were ready. These guys are amazing. Haseeb is so professional and takes the time to understand what you want and makes the vision into a reality. If anything isn't right, they will fix it and fix it right. I have bought 6 suits and 8 shirts and I can say my expectations were surpassed. I can be a very picky guy and Surmesur catered to my requests and the clothes came out perfect. This place is just pure fire. Came in to purchase some dress shirts for work, as I have long arms but a smaller waist which makes buying off the rack and altering a hassle. The staff was friendly and helped me pick out some great fabrics within my price range. The measuring process took a few minutes, I paid and was on my way. To my surprise my shirts came in 3.5 weeks later fitting PERFECTLY! I've done Made-to-Measure with others in the city and this is the first time that not a single adjustment was needed. Colleagues and strangers always compliment the subtle accents I added to the shirts with the help of the staff. Will surely be coming back for more shirts and will venture into their suiting as well. read more

Well, if there was half star rating option I would choose that. The suits and shirts were good with the price you paid, however, the service was the part really made me put the negative review. I went there with my boyfriend to pick up the suit he ordered a month ago. The guy who was working there really pissed me off!!!!!! There were about 4-5 guys working in the store including the manager. The guy who helped my boyfriend before came to helped him try his suit. I was first time in the store and he was extremely unfriendly with me!!!!! I was just sitting there quietly and waiting for the whole. However the guy made extremely rude and racist comments on me. I had no idea why he would do that especially himself is a visible minor too (yes, the Asian guy I am talking about you). He asked me how my day was in the beginning and I answered him friendly. After that he made the comment which really pissed me off. He said:" wow, your English is so good, I can't believe I am having normal conversation with you!" I was born in this country, and like all Canadians, English is my first language. I could not understand the whole meaning of the conversation that the sales person tries to express to his client. I was so shocked after his rude and racist comment. The suit was nicely customised made and the quality of the clothing was decent. We were satisfied with the fits and quality. Well, the price we pay for the clothes not only just for the clothes, but also the service we get. The service in CUSTOMISE clothing store is even more important than any other business. I paid the money to get profession services, not to get insult and unrespect. I highly recommend the manager to get his staff more training about how to treat your customers in the right way. read more
