I wanted to do something new and different for my parents & boyfriend for Christmas so I contacted Surprise Industries. After my initial email I was contacted by Tania, I gave her some details and ideas of what we would like/not like and she figured out a evening plan for $65 pp. As it got closer to the date we got 3 clues, one over email, one she dropped off at my building then the last via mail. I don't want to say what we did because I'm sure it will be used for a future surprise but we all found our inner artist that night and we have something in our apartment to always remember it! I love this idea so much, I wish I had come up with it myself! The execution of this is amazing and when you are short on time or ideas, this is the perfect place to turn for an unbelievable event. I keep trying to come up with reasons to hire them because I think everyone needs more surprises in their life. My girlfriend and I did a Valentine's surprise last year and it was SO fun and such a surprise! I had no idea we would end up where we did! First you fill out a questionairre so they get a feel for what you're all about and what you're looking for, and then they tell you to show up at an address. Don't cheat and look it up on google maps, it's MUCH more exciting when you have no idea what to expect. I'll definitely be trying this sometime again soon !!! read more

This was the best gift i have ever given someone, by far. And because I paid to come along and experience the surprise my for myself - it was the best gift I've ever given myself too! I had no idea what I was about to buy for my Fiance for Christmas,(I mean, a SURPRISE?! - sounds risky!) but once I got on the phone with the people at Surprise Industries I felt totally secure, handed over my money to them and watched the surprise unfold. I'm so glad they didn't tell me what I was giving my Fiance for Christmas - that way I got to experience the surprise too! It was incredible!!!!!!!! I recommend this as a gift to anyone in your life. Your mom, your dad, your boyfriend or girlfriend, your brother, sister, cousin. It's even a great gift for coworkers - or to do as an office team building experience! Friends were visiting from out of town, and when I suggested that we do a surprise they were down for the adventure. We got to choose a surprise from a number of times and locations around NYC. Once we booked a slot, we received an adorable clue that, try as we might, we couldn't figure out ahead of time - though afterwards we had a much easier time understanding what it meant. The suspense of not knowing what we would be doing wasn't all the excitement - the surprise itself was fantastic, and a great group activity (there were 4 of us), and really fun! Actually , I was pretty disappointed. I had guessed what the surprise was from the first clue and was hoping it would not be what it turned out to be. Without giving the specifics my partner and I were trained in certain version of what I had done professionally for 7 years. . While the instructor was excellent,caring, beautiful heart -I wasn't interested. Nor was my partner. I really thought I would be taken out of my ordinary/regular experience with the surprise-we were not. This was not worth $300 for 2 hours of our time and the instructor's. Great concept but not interesting in the slightest. Maybe we are too old for this. read more

I recently got engaged and used Surprise Industries! You may ask, but why??? I'm very adventurous and enjoy taking chances... Try everything once right! So, I found out about Surprise Industries while reading Entrepreneur magazine and I immediately thought of "The Game" with Michael Douglas & Sean Penn. So, I called and started working with Kat D. She was awesome... Engagements weren't their specialty but she took the challenge and ran with it... She even offered to let me in on the surprise, but I quickly declined because I figured... I'd like to be just as surprised as my lady would be, besides I'm a horrible liar! So the first surprise was an hr tango lesson in an office building in the theater district... We were both pleasantly surprised and entertained... After strutting our stuff, Kate popped out of nowhere as we're getting out of the building with a bouquet of roses and secret envelope not to be opened until we arrived at our next destination. After a fancy limo ride, we get to our next surprise... a four course Dark Dining Experience at Camaje (super cool idea by the way)... mind you all this time, I still had no clue when I would get an opportunity to propose... So to alleviate, as I'm blindfolded and sweating bullets, the staff worked out a plan of action with me (via ear whispers as to not alert the bride-to-be since she's sitting blindfolded across from me with a now enhanced hearing sense). Right before dessert after a few birthday wishes and a musical number, the host kindly gave me my cue... Here I was thinking it was a moment to be shared with me and my now fiancee.... It was requested of me to speak louder so that EVERYONE could hear me... Yes, my fiancee and the 20 some odd diners... YES and to top it all off... I bought a groupon for a mini Surprise a while ago, I went to the surprise and had a blast! It was something I would have never done in my "real" life. It was great and lots of laughs. The second time I bought a deal through their site for a mini surprise. It was actually something I had done before in my real life haha but it was still fun to do again. It can make you a little nervous at first because you don't know what to expect but they're all so nice and give you things to do to break the ice so that you start talking to other participants and start to feel comfortable. I'd definitely do other surprises if they ever have other deals again and I definitely recommend people trying it. read more

I absolutely LOVE Surprise Industries. I began with my first surprise when visiting NYC from Boston. A friend and I ended up painting pottery and I learned that I could not take my pottery home because it would not be ready for pickup for a week or so. In my response survey I mentioned as much and my agent of surprise promptly responded, sent the pottery to me FexEx and followed up to make certain I received it. I loved the experience so much that they created a solo adventure for me in Boston and a group one. The clues and setup were flawless and I have never been treated to such good customer service. I had a friend come in town, and he is always up for a good time, so I figured we'd do something wild through Surprise Industries. Tania was quick to respond and our activity was inexpensive and certainly a surprise! The clue was just an address and a time and it took all of our effort not to look it up on googlemaps. The slight downsides were: 1) Our activity was super strenuous, and since we didn't know what we would be doing, neither of us brought a change of clothes for afterwards, so we just ended up just going home. 2) The person who greeted us at our designated place had no idea who we were, and why we were there. But it didn't take long for the contact person to run out and welcome us, and she thought the idea was awesome! In the end, the element of surprise was really really fun, and I'm sure those kind of kinks have been smoothed out. I keep meaning to do this again, for myself, as well as buying as gifts for friends/coworkers/family! read more

I booked a personalized surprised for some out of towners, and my husband and I. I gave Maya and Kat the crazy rundown of what we like to do... be active, compete, and generally do ridiculous stuff. I found out about this group through a friend of mine. Where I work, we have a yearly outing for a year well done. This year, we thought we'd give surprise industries a chance. We have a group of ten and the agent that I worked with was extremely accommodating - this must be difficult as we are all different personalities. We had a fantastic time! I signed up for a Mini Surprise and I totally LOVED it!!! I was in town for my Christmas vacation and I wanted to try something fun. Aaaand it was really FUN! Before I purchased the Surprise, I just let them know my restrictions (phobias, allergies, etc) and how old I was, but they did pick up a perfect one, the thing that I LOVE but in adventurous way with a great surprise (I'm not sure if that's a lucky guess or they have some secret strategy....) I'll definitely try other Surprises in the future whenever I go back to NYC or visit Chicago or Minneapolis. For those of you who made their mind to try Surprise, go for it! I am a scientist and surprises are not a good thing in my world, but I was really stuck on what to give my daughter on her 18th birthday. I love her dearly, but giving her a present is a painful experience. There is always that look of let down when she opens it and though nice things are coming out of her mouth I know she hates it. So I did what no scientist in their right mind would do and signed up for a surprise for her and 5 of her friends. This was absolutely fabulous. Sorry I can't tell you what it was but my daughter laughed and smiled all the way through and will remember the event for the rest of her life. Her friends have pictures posted on facebook and word is out that this will be a hard act to beat for the next girl turning 18. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed. I'd been given a gift certificate to a "mini surprise" from Surprise Industries for Christmas and finally cashed in on it this weekend. There was such big build-up to the surprise: emails with hints, indications that we were going to be pushed out of our comfort zones, and then a 20-minute pep talk once we arrived about how wonderful life is when you try new things! I agree with the sentiment, but the experience was a let down. The email hints had promised that we would "explore the great outdoors," but that wasn't the case whatsoever. The second half of the surprise was a little better, but there were Surprise Industry people standing around the entire time, over enthusiastically cheering us on. It honestly felt like they were pretending that this pretty-average activity was the most amazing thing they'd ever seen. I hesitantly signed up, just to shake things up a bit, and the execution of the entire event from start to finish was remarkable. Wow, what a fantastic idea and I love these kind of mini adventures. Very well oiled process, we were happy we were not following up with email chasers. We end up speaking with one for the co-owners to help us sort out a glitch on signing in! So the surprise: can't tell ya! But what i can tell you is this: It was conducted by a professional, and we did an activity that we are aware of, and would we have had tried it without a little nudge fromSurprise:nope. Enjoyment factor was great, instructions and background information were very entertaining. My husband was more skeptical before the surprise was revealed, but he enjoyed it once the surprise was revealed! I had 2 experiences with Surprise Industries, and both were fantastic! The first one was a surprise for a bachelorette party, which was loads of fun for all the girls. That is how I found out about Surprise Industries, and I thought the idea was so unique that I requested a full day of surprises for my dating anniversary with my fiance. There were 2 surprises and a lunch, and the surprises were all private to just the two of us. When I told my friends how we spent our anniversary and showed them photos, they were amazed by what a unique day we had, and we will definitely remember this anniversary for a long time to come. Also, everything was very well organized - all 3 parts were in the same vicinity, and transportation was arranged for us from / to each one, so that we wouldn't have to worry about that. I worked with Tania, and she really put in the effort to make the surprises something that was personal to us. I even asked her to change the timing on short notice a couple of days before, and she switched the entire day around to accommodate us. Truly an experience that you won't forget! read more
