I came down to give it a run for a Yelp event. There were 2 organizers directing the gameplay and activities. They split participants into competitive groups and had various tables/rooms to get interconnected puzzles to unlock clues to solve a larger mystery in under 60 minutes (they have 45/60/90 minute puzzles). I have experienced another escape the room event and this one is definitely more geared towards team building since if you focus too much one clue alone you will surely fall behind in time. You will need most of your group involved and tackling other tasks for the maximum brain power utilization if you want to win! The mystery we had involved word matching, scents, visual, and textile puzzles to reveal clues that uncovered details of a fictional actress' life. I am glad they didnt involve tons of math which requires algebra or calculus experts to solve, which can become annoying instead of fun. The organizers say they customize the puzzles and mysteries to match the group and the team bonding goals, so they clearly did a good job with their choice because everyone here was engaged and had a great time. The hosts were very cheerful, the mysteries were fun and challenging. Overall a great experience! read more

I was a bit skeptical of how a bring to your office escape the room experience would be. However, Breakout IQ was awesome and everyone had a blast! It was super easy to step away from our offsite for a short time to go a team bonding activity without having to coordinate and build in time to travel and etc. Varun was super accommodating and helpful. He worked to help make our tight schedule and space. The day of, Lisa and Lizzie were amazing and hilarious. The game itself was well thought out and engaging. The girls were super quick to set up and clean up. They also take photos during the event to send to your after. The team truly made my job of event planning super easy and stress free which allowed me to fully engage with the activity!! Yes they cost a tad bit more than a regular escape the room but I would definitely book them again! read more

Great team-building exercise! All the frenetic puzzle-solving of an escape room in a portable setup, with a bit of competition to put some ego on the line. The puzzles hit the sweet spot between having to make wild stabs in the dark at what the designer had in mind and just trying to run through steps before the clock runs out or the other team beats you. Great balance between thinking and doing. Devin and Lisa were excellent hosts as well. They were friendly and energetic, set up the game clearly, and kept us on the rails as we went along. Definitely recommended, and I look forward to trying some of their other scenarios :-) read more

This was a fun experience, different from your typical escape rooms in that they can come to you and set up with whatever space you have available. BreakoutIQ was awesome!!! Lisa and Lizzie was the host for our office team event and were great at getting us hyped. They arrived on time, had everything set up nicely, and provided clear instructions. The entire process from getting the event scheduled, to payment to hosting the event was smooth sailing. The experience was fun and engaging and really allowed us to work together as a team to figure out each puzzle. Some people were even skeptical about how much they would have given that we were hosting at our offices, but surprisingly, everyone unanimously said they had a great time. The games were challenging enough, but not so hard where you cannot figure it out. They had an ongoing clock to show where each team were. Of course, when you hear that other teams have opened the next lock, the other teams would start to hustle. Throughout the event, our hosts were very helpful and provided clues along the way in case we were way off track. This was a competition, so figuring out the answers quickly was important, no time to waste on wrong answers! If you enjoy Escape the Rooms, then you'll love BreakoutIQ! It's the same process but I feel BreakoutIQ caters the game more towards team building. You have to split up and allocate tasks in order to stay on top of time. The tasks are very diverse. Not only is it a game of wit but also a game where you can utilize all five of your senses. No one should feel left out or feel the game is too challenging. I participated in the Great American Escape Room game. For this game, I had to race against the clock as well as the other teams. The first team to solve all the clues and shout out the secret phase won the game. You had to utilize all of the stations in the game. The clues from each station would all come together in the end to help you get the answer that you need, which made the game even more fun because it wasn't like you solved, advanced, and were done with everything you came across at that point. Give BreakoutIQ a chance the next time you're planning a fun team building activity for work or a fun time with friends! They can cater a game to fit the size of your group, the goal of your group, or the interests of your group. Games can last anywhere from 45 minutes to 90 minutes. My Company was looking for a group activity that wasn't just the usual "go to someone's house for beers and bbq"...we really wanted something that would different, interesting and that everyone could participate in. We also needed it to be easy to set up in a small space and able to accommodate a large number of people. A friend of mine from SF had recently done a BreakoutIQ escape room at his company and he told me he had an amazing time. Lucky for me, BreakoutIQ just launched in NY as well! So I immediately set one up for our Company. My experience working with them was a smooth as one can imagine. They're customer service really is top-notch; they were so flexible and accommodating and they took care of all the logistics. It was very seamless sort of experience, and they were so fast and efficient at setting everything up in our conference room and breaking it all back down after we were done. The "escape room" itself was also super fun, it really got everyone on the team fired up and working together, trying to solve all the puzzles. The game had just the right level of difficulty such that everyone could get into it and and no one would get too stuck and feel left behind. It was also great just to unplug from the computer and spend some time cracking mysteries with colleagues "in real life". I would do it again in a heartbeat! read more

I've done a few escape rooms, and came into my team event fairly skeptical about an escape room that was going to be setup in our office for us. Usually escape rooms have a lot of different bells and whistles that are built into the room itself, and so I couldn't really picture it. Breakout's escape "room" ended up being much better than what I would have expected. Once everything got going, we got so caught up in the challenges, and everything was very well connected. The competitive aspect was also really fun and unique, and got everyone really into it from the very beginning even when it wasn't obvious how exactly to get going. The escape room was great! We came across BreakoutIQ because they were the only company we could find that could run a large group escape room for our team of 50. The light competitive aspect that they add in to make the game work for big groups is great. Everyone on our team felt engaged as a part of their small team of 6 during the game, and having every team play the game in the same event space really added a lot of energy to the room. Their hosts did a good job of keeping each team on track and enjoying the puzzles, and it was just the right difficulty level to keep our first timers and our escape room veterans on their toes. read more

I am SO EXCITED Breakout IQ has officially launched in NY!!!! I was fortunate to participate in an escape game with them last year and it was out of this world. Like actually. I felt I was transported to another world of mystery, excitement, competition, and laughter. It was seriously incredible and left me totally speechless. The series of puzzles were highly engaging - they were difficult and challenging (but oh so rewarding when you finally solved them!) and intricately interlinked. Planning was super easy and seamless -- Varun was really accommodating and helped arrange the event near our office so we could still enjoy being "offsite". The event itself was also a huge hit. This is a cool idea. It's basically like an escape room, except mobile and customizable. From what they tell us, they can go to your office, take theme suggestions, and only really need a bit of space to make an interactive escape room-esque activity! To be honest, when I did it with the yelp crew, only one group finished in time and the other teams were on the last activity. It was set up in sections, and every time you finished a section you went to them, and they were always so congratulatory it made you feel amazing for each section solved!
