I had an awful experience working with Mimi Roca as my agent. Her lazy work ethic, lack of communication and complete disregard for professionalism cost me $200k in my property sale. On multiple occasions, potential buyers were left waiting outside because she failed to show up only to later find out she was sleeping instead of doing her job! She is rude, unresponsive and a pathological liar who does not take her responsibilities seriously. If I hadn't fired her and switched to a more competent agent my property would likely still be sitting on the market. In this competitive real estate market I should have received top dollar but instead I was left dealing with he consequences of her negligence. Dealt with Jennifer Shaw on a unit for sale in Sea Pine Newport Beach. AVOID AT ALL COSTS She was rude, entitled, arrogant and generally off putting. I am writing this as a successful Caucasian woman who felt uncomfortable and can only imagine if I was more diverse or if I would have even been able to view the unit. This agent is training her daughter who is so sweet and sincere but I hope she see that there is no service delivery or trust created when your behave in the way Jennifer Shaw did - it's antiquated and it's very Karen like to wield her race as a weapon. There was no value add for her as an agent. My agent and I noticed 7 years of deferred exterior maintenance for which there is an HOA and she responded curtly. Most of the actual facts about the property were unknown by her as the selling agent. For example, did not know which hvac system belonged to the unit, unaware of basic working items like dryer vent. Her understanding of her job is to look pretty and talk down to clients similar to the old car salesman that would be so condescending that the client would overpay to prove a point. She was also very interested in if the potential was there for her to bookend both ends of the transaction and make a double commission. Shady! Lastly she is not transparent or forthcoming in communication as she knew our max price and due to a recent situation where another "Bay Area" person wrote 10 offers and then came to see them all and only purchased 1 she forced me to fly down to meet her to consider my offer and waste $880 on Labor Day weekend flight and more on travel expenses only to counter my offer at and absurd amount. Her daughter still has a fighting chance to remain human. Good luck to her. read more

Robert Pfeif at Surterre sold our home at Newport Beach in December 19. He never told us that gas line to the house was cut off and promised that previous home owner never had a leak in the house. Roofer came out said there was multiple leaks before and it has been fixed multiple time. We have to re-do our roof for 30k. read more

STAY AWAY FROM KEN PILOTI My friends and I booked at 5 bedroom house with Ken Pilioti via VRBO in December, 2017 for a wedding in August, 2018. Everything was paid in full and confirmed. 48 hours before we were due to arrive, Ken contacted us to let us know that there was a glitch in their system and the people currently renting the property had extended their stay so the house was no longer available. For some inexplicable reason, Ken decided to honor the reservation extension instead of ours, which had been confirmed for 8 months. His solution was to offer us a 4 bedroom house from Saturday - Tuesday instead and not comping anything. We all arrive Friday morning for the wedding and now have nowhere to stay. All of the hotels are now exorbitantly expensive. I would stay away from Ken at all costs - he manipulates clients' trust and does not hold himself accountable for his actions. read more

Met up with an agent from to view beachfront property for lease. Had to first convince him I was serious because the property was "out of the way from the office and he had a meeting coming up." Once we met up with the agent, we viewed the property and liked it with some minor exceptions that we'd be able to overlook for a year. The thing we couldn't look past was the agent being dismissive. I've spent more money on cars and vacations all over the world than this agent has taken home in 3 years. But hey, who's counting? ROBYN SEARS, REALTOR My husband and I hired Robyn Sears from Surterree to list our home. The WORST experience ever. Great talker when we was interviewing realtors but was impossible to deal with once she got the listing. She sent inexperienced realtors to hold our open houses and terrible at follow up and responsiveness. She cancelled open houses at the last minute with no explanations. We eventually found the buyer (she did not) and she got a huge commission on a $1M plus home and we never got even a thank you. Would NOT RECOMMEND. read more

She made the process unnecessarily difficult, long, and complicated every step of the way. She consistently misrepresented our statements to the potential landlords and every piece of paperwork she sent to us was sloppily and incorrectly drafted. As soon as we were able to communicate directly with the property owner, our suspicions were confirmed that Patricia was the issue during all of the earlier negotiations/communications. I hate being lied to and that's exactly what happened with these guys. I was told by their agent Lena Ghezel that an applicant in front of me was told they had one day to turn in their deposit or I would have an opportunity the following day. However the following day she says "I will let you know by the end of the day, it looks like they will be moving forward". That doesn't sound like they brought the deposit to me. What a bunch of BS! I was looking on their online website for a rental property in Newport Beach, Irvine or Costa Mesa. The two times I found a place I REALLY wanted, I did not even have a chance... NOT because of the initial point of contact (she was excellent), but due to the extreem LACK of timely follow-up from the BROKERS they do business with. I was looking for two months for a property that met very specific criteria. That is why when I did find something that met my needs, I really needed to make sure I was one of the first to be considered. Bottom line, I missed out on the opportunity for properties that I had worked VERY hard to find. Initially I was happy based on the service I was receiving, but if you don't have ALL the right players responding in a timely manner, you will miss the chance to get the property you really wanted & worked so hard to find. Since the properties are MLS listed, any real estate company can help me. Unfortunately, they did not come through for me when it counted most. I will need to find someone else to get the job done. ROBYN SEARS is a fantastic realtor! She was absolutely tireless in helping us find a rental property and then subsequently a home to purchase. Since we were new to the area, she spent a huge amount of time giving me a basic knowledge of the neighborhoods and showing me properties so that I could get a sense of value points in the market. Both my husband and I are busy professionals--we appreciated how responsive Robyn was to our questions. She is highly knowledgeable, financially savvy and an excellent negotiator. As a buyer, I particularly like that she is willing to share her opinions of what constitutes a fair price. We initially went to Robyn when she was recommended by several very discerning business associates in the area. I thought they were exaggerating in their praise but I was beyond pleased with her service and performance. Even after the purchase, Robyn has always been willing to provide comps on our home and keep us up to date with what's happening in the market even though we both know we are so happy with our home (and our fabulous view) that we are unlikely to sell. Realtors can be a mixed bag as some have little experience or knowledge. There are some very dishonest folks working over at Surterre. Specifically, my roommate and I unfortunately had to deal with some very shady behavior from Betty Comegys and Rick Trevers. During our stay at Villa Balboa (managed by Surterre), Betty was very pleasant (client service behavior). However, when we moved out, she tried to subtly get us to leave before our lease was up - which we were happy to do. However, we discovered after the fact that this was so that they could re-paint the place and install new carpets before the next tenant moved in. My roommate and I had very busy jobs and never had anyone over. So the walls/carpet were essentially unchanged from when we had originally moved in. Under the terms of the lease, it stated that we would not be charged for any "normal wear and tear." However, the folks at Surterre/whoever they were working with at the complex used up the vast majority of our security deposit to completely re-paint all of the walls, and used a portion toward the replacement of the carpets. It is normal to use some of the security deposit for carpet cleaning, but using up the majority to re-paint, when that was stated no where in the contract is dishonest, shady, and just general bad business practice. In addition to the above, after subtly getting us to leave before the last day of our lease, they would not give us back a pro-rated rent check for the time during which we were not in the apartment. My roommate and I are completely disgusted with the behavior exhibited by the two above people. If you rent an apartment through this company, be wary and protect yourself. Do not let them take advantage of you and potentially breach contract terms. We are thinking of taking this to small claims court or reporting it to the Better Business Bureau. read more

I hired Katie Machoskie to sell my house. she seems nice but she was unable to sell my house and did some rather dumb things like took a fake offer and did not do her due diligence. This was because she was representing the other side and wanted that double commission to the point that she would not answer my questions about the buyer like if she ever spoke to him, she admitted later she only e mailed him. She ended up with egg on her face because it was a scam and she got taken hook line and sinker. After that waste of time I did not renew the listing with her. I live in the same community and she purposely avoids me. I saw her in the gym the other day and she acts like I am not there. So bottom line she is not a very nice person.In conclusion She did some stupid stuff got humiliated and acts indignant, all this was due to her actions not mine and than instead of being grateful that I gave her a chance and my business she acts cold and indifferent. You can find anyone to plant a sign to sell your house so I would say stay away if your looking for someone who is nice there are plenty of better agents and firms in Newport. read more
