Ok no $%&*. Best barber in N Austin. I've been seeing Erika Fadess for about 8 months bringing my 6-7 year son here. She's excellent with kids but moreover her bald fades are the best in the business. I am from Baltimore and my sister is a stylist and I know good hair and I'm telling you. Erika is top notch for all men's cuts. She is precise and listens to what u need and works with u to make it perfect. My son has thick course hair that he likes really long on top and bald fade on sides and she does it with ease. Phenomenal. Background: I moved to Austin a little over a month and haven't looked into barbershops until today. I stumbled upon Su's Beauty and Barber and I am SO glad I did! I decided to take a chance and try them out because it's always a hit or miss when it comes to hairstylists/barbers. This was DEFINITELY a hit! There was literally no wait time, which was fantastic! I waited 2 hours for a barber in San Antonio once, which was bad planning on my part, but the next time I tried to call ahead to get my name put on the list, they told me I HAD to wait at the shop. So I REALLY appreciate Su's Beauty and Barber getting me in and out in a timely manner! About the Barber: Sue was the first one that interacted with me when I first walked in the door and she was the one that offered to cut my hair. She asked me what I wanted, I showed her a quick picture because I don't describe things too well, and she knew exactly what I wanted. As she began cutting my hair, she asked me about my day and a little about myself. None of our conversations felt awkward. The whole time she was cutting my hair, she had me turned away from the mirror which was basically giving me an anxiety attack, but I took deep breaths. She turned me around to look, and WOAH. AMAZING! I was immediately impressed! (And she also had these neat clippers that sucked up the hair as she was cutting it, leaving no mess!) Since we moved from the area we would still go back to get my son's hair cut at Su's. We've always been happy with the results, until yesterday. My son has been growing is hair out for over a year and needed just his sides trimmed. Leaving the shop he was having hand fulls of his long hair coming out. Today, getting his hair braided, we pull his hair back and see CUTS on his forehead. I've never had Su, and I've hear beautiful things about her, but it's a toss up for everyone else. I've been coming here for the last six months and I always have cut my hair with different barbers and they all cut my hair just fine, they have a spacious size barber where they have at least 4-6 barbers cutting her all at once so they keep the business flowing, its really not much of a wait. Im bringing my kids here next time since they can take care of kids haircut just fine, although I've personally prefer Connie to take care of us because she cared for my hair and gave me several recommendations to take care of my hair. read more

I had an appointment with Nathan on 5/29 at 1pm, I wrote a review on his Booksy but he deleted it. I was a first time customer and when I arrived I let the ladies near the door that I had an appointment with Nathan three times. All the walk ins were getting helped before me. I looked at Booksy and it said my appointment was finished but I never got my hair cut. I waited for 1hr and 40 mins and didn't get my haircut so I left. They need to add some kind of way to sign in for people with appointments or the barbers need to take their asses to the waiting chairs and call for their appointments. Well, I'm sad to say that I was too quick to say we had a new barber in my previous review. Miss Su the young beautician mentioned in my previous review was great, unfortunately the owner Su, an older lady is just horrible! I had purchased two separate Groupons for my boyfriend, one for a haircut and shave one for a haircut only. On our first visit the owner Su had minutely examined the Groupon for a shave and haircut, complained that 'they' had done it wrong (no explanation of who 'they' were or what 'they' had done wrong), and then said she would have to talk with 'them' about it. I told her that was fine but right now we were going to use the Groupon as it was stated and she could clear up any problems with 'them' after the fact. She grudgingly accepted the Groupon. All I can say is that the going Su's shave and haircut were so excellent as to cloud my memory of the obnoxious Su when I wrote my first review. We returned for a second visit about 2 months later, completely valid Groupon in hand (remember the first had been for a shave and haircut, this one was for a haircut only; 2 different options on Groupon, purchased together, no exclusions or 'for new clients only listed). The terribly rude owner Su swooped down on us when the young Su (sorry, it's very confusing that they are both named Su!) tried to get her to redeem our Groupon. She berated us for trying to redeem the totally-valid Groupon (as the owner, I'm assuming she was the one who dictated the terms of her own Groupon?!?), announced to the entire salon that we were trying to cheat her, swore the Groupon was invalid, and swore it was invalid AGAIN to the Groupon representative I got on the phone who was telling her it WAS valid under the terms and strongly advising her to accept it! I took back the phone and asked the rep to refund it as this was embarrassing and SO not worth the hassle. We turned to walk out of the store and Old Su ever-so-sweetly asked if we weren't going to get the haircut after all? My boyfriend and I just looked at each other for a minute and I told the old lady, you just spent 15 minutes arguing that you wouldn't accept my Groupon and now after all that you're saying that you will?! She says, oh no, no, no, you can't cheat me with that but you can still get a haircut and pay full price! I asked, in all seriousness, if she was crazy and we left. Sorry for the long review, I just got all steamed up re-reading my original 5-star review (young Su is still awesome - and needs to move to a decent salon!) and remembering the crazy old bats treatment of us! read more

MY SON'S GRADUATION IS TOMORROW AND LIKE A FOOL I ALLOWED MY SON YO GET A HAIR CUT HERE...We normally travel to Chicago to to get his hair cut and go to Houston for an edge up or freshen up. Since we live in Austin we tried to give a barbershop in Austin a chance. All this guy Harold was supposed to do was clean up his lining and go over the sides of the Mohawk for a fresh look. I even provided him a photo of how it should look. .... What he did: pushed his lining back in the front, Harold pushed his lining up and the back, shaved off my baby's side burns and ruined his confidence. I would have been better off taking him to super cuts or Walmart for this . My son is smart and he knows how his hair is supposed to look. now he is really sad at the way it looks... Huge, brand new barber shop / salon in north Austin. They have lots of electrical outlets in the waiting area, free wifi, and more than a dozen flat screen TVs to keep you entertained. Byron cut my hair very well and showed me a new way to style it that I hadn't considered before. Everyone likes my hair much better this way. Cuts are inexpensive (at least during the introductory period) compared to the nicer spots in Austin (Bird's, Floyd's, Finleys) but the level of service and professionalism is similar (no free beer though, but they have coffee). Also, none of those upscale shops are in far North Austin so it's nice to have a new spot in the neighborhood. Glad there is a barber shop up north now that is reasonably priced and knows how to cut my (very coarse) hair. read more

I've been getting my hair cut at Floyds for the past 2 years, spending roughly $22/cut, which I was fine paying since I'd been going to the same guy for a while and was very happy with the way it turned out consistently. Once he moved, I was out of luck and looking for a new place to frequent. I happened to be up in North Austin passing by Su's and decided to give it a try. Initially, I was pretty skeptical. I saw the prices were about $12 for a cut, and I've never had a good $12 haircut in the past, but I decided to go through with it. The owners were there and we spoke for a little while, and they even showed me around the place, since it was during the soft opening. I was pretty surprised at how high end the place looked and eventually sat down for my cut. I have to say, I'm very impressed. They did a great job, one of my favorite cuts I've gotten in a while. This was about 2 weeks ago - I like to wait a little while to see how my cut grows in, and it's been perfect. It's up North, which is good if you live up there, and right off the freeway so it's a pretty easy drive either way. I'll be back again soon. read more

I took my 12 year old son for a haircut this morning. At 6 years old he told me he wanted long hair and I agreed. So, this was his first haircut in a little over 6 years. Su happily cut off his long locks and our barber DC took over and gave him a FANTASTIC cut! We both couldn't be more pleased with the results. My review is for Tish on the beauty side of Su's Beauty and Barber. Tish has astounding skills when it comes to hair styling/cuts as well as placing hair extensions. She has been cutting my hair for about a year since I moved to Austin. I love the quality of the product line she carries for extensions. I purchased "my" hair and luckily she was available to put the extensions in my hair the next day. Now as someone who has never had them before I placed 100% trust in Tish and she delivered! The same day i walked out of the salon nothing but compliments all day.....no joke. Today a co-worker who gets extensions regularly came back from vacation and says "this girl knows her skill. your extensions look phenomenal, very natural." They do a great Job. I use Moe and my first cut from him was one of the best cuts I've ever gotten he's about as legit as it gets. I have a unique hair line from my cancer treatment that won't grow back. It's been hard to find someone who can blend it and make it look good. All their barbers are very talented. While my husband may not admit to it, he is very particular with his haircut. He has very curly hair, and it's a constant struggle to find someone that can cut his hair properly and at an affordable price. After his visit to Su's Barber, he was given the best haircut I've ever seen! The reviews for the barbershop don't lie, these barbers know exactly what they're doing and they do the best fade. The barber shop was very busy when we went in, but we called ahead and my husband got into the chair right away. They do accept walk-ins, and the barbers were very accommodating. There were large families in there, and they had no problem making sure everyone got a great cut and didn't have to sacrifice a whole day to do so. Lots of tv's to watch the game, they offer straight razor services, and hair designs as well. For $15 with most barbers (and $25 for select ones), I think Su's has become the place for my husband to get his hair cut! Curly haired men, you should definitely check them out! read more

Super HAPPY.. walked in today about 130, maybe 7 barbers on site. lots of chairs . was able to have kids get cuts immediately. clean, friendly, they are open 7 days a week, 9-9. This will be our place. ( most shops weve tried maybe 7 chairs to wait in, lots of times Ive had to stand while kids get cuts, ) many shops are closed on mondays. My wife had her hair cut here today, first time trying this place. We walked in, were greeted and told it would be just a few minutes. We did not have an appointment. Waited maybe 10 minutes. Wife had a wash and cut. Stylist was friendly and kind and did a very good job on the cut and style my wife was very pleased. (I was in the waiting area, which is not big but did have a large screen tv with cable and a remote to watch what you'd like.)
