I've been going to Susan for 10 years, with 2 breaks in between related to distance and budget. Both times I've left I've found myself back. Not only is Susan an expert in skin care, but she won't oversell you on a bunch of crap you don't need. I'll never forget my first visit when I asked for something rather aggressive and she told me I needed to wait some years until my skin needed that level of treatment. I've had trouble with my skin as an adult since moving from the east coast which is very moist and humid to the very dry climate of the west coast. My skin dried out and started over producing oil to compensate, which led to very deep very large nasty and extremely painful cystic acne breakouts. Enter Susan. She started me off with mild and gentle peels that made the recurring cysts disappear and helped heal the pigmentation they left behind. I stopped seeing Susan for a while because I couldn't fit visits into my budget. The acne came back after 3-4 months. When I resumed monthly visits, in less than three months, my acne disappeared again along with all the new hyperpigmentation. Susan gives one of the best, consistent facials I've ever had. I'm so glad I found this place and will gladly keep booking with her. The best thing to do is book the consultation option and talk through what you want for your skin with Susan. You may have thought you needed a peel, but a different facial might be the better option. I don't have troublesome skin and it's not very reactive, but even so I do not get any dry patches or sensitivity after a more "aggressive" treatment and that's likely due to the care she take with your skin. I have never had a facial before and a friend of mine who has been coming to Susan for years raved about her, so I figured at almost 42 years old why not dive in and experience my first facial? When you first walk in, the vibe of the facility is very relaxing and the decor inside is very professional and tasteful. You will walk past the front desk attendant and go inside to the next room where you will sit across from Susan on a couch and she will ask you questions about your concerns, skin and health issues and get to know you and your specific history a bit better. She will then make suggestions as to what she recommends, and what's nice is she doesn't try to upsell you on anything but gives you an honest recommendation based on what would really work for your skin type and history. You'll then go into the facial/massage room where you'll do the typical get under the sheets face up, and after a little bit Susan will come in and proceed to the facial. It was extremely relaxing and Susan puts you at ease during the entire thing - she is a great conversationalist and the whole thing just went by so quickly. There is a bit of a gentle massage element to the facial which I really like because that means some lymphatic drainage will take place and in addition to the typical external skin facial, there is benefit internally as well. When I left my skin was nice and moisturized and very soft, and she removed a lot of little blackheads as well. I had been coming here for waxing services for over a year, but no longer since my bad experience with customer service. This past April, this is what I encountered. Anyone with sensitive skin: Please Beware!!! As Susan was finishing on waxing an area of my upper inner legs, I was feeling like my legs were on fire. This painful sensation I had not felt before in the past. I told Susan about my legs feeling weird and different, but she paid no mind to what I just told her. She continued to rub that area with post oil. As two days past, my rash go increasingly worse. I notified her about it on Monday morning, and she advised for me to get it looked at by a doctor. I was rather shocked that she would even mention she hoped it was not a staph infection, in which she stated thereafter it probably was not. Upon questioning her on what she used on my skin. She admitted to me of using a different post oil (without my knowledge) because she claimed she ran out of azulene oil. I missed a day and a half off from work due to not feeling well and having to drive to two different doctors to get this skin reaction looked at. My rash that had started from my inner legs then spread oddly to other areas of my body because of my t-cells and the allergic reaction my body was experiencing. Per what was stating from the Dermatologist Doctor. I did not feel Susan handled my matter professionally. As per my last conversation with her, she kept interrupting me, and rudely spoke over me whenever I was trying to communicate to her. She stated she did not want to argue, yet she was arguementative with me as I addressed the issues. Susan had the nerve to blame the allergic reaction to the towels she uses, and did not believe it came from the post oil she used on me. She was arrogant with stating how long she's been doing waxing, and found it hard to believe why a rash would spread to other areas. Basically questioning me as if I was making up a story. A good friend of mine is a good friend of Susan's, and when I said I wanted a facial (but didn't know where to start) she sweetly gifted me a certificate to Susan's shop. Wow! My skin is super sensitive and I'm kind of shy so first trips like this aren't always relaxing for me. I saw Susan this past weekend for a detox facial. In the weeks and months prior, my skin had been changing due to stress and changes in birth control. Currently in my 30s, I am dealing with mild cystic acne and overall clogged and congested skin. I came to Susan not expecting any miracles right away. I have had many facials in the past and understand that it can take many treatments to really start seeing improvement. I mostly wanted to have fresher looking, less congested skin for an important event coming up. Her space, while small, is cozy and relaxing. All the products she used smelled amazing. One can tell she is well experienced as she was very efficient with the extractions resulting in minimal pain. The massage after the extractions was very relaxing. Afterwards she allowed me to ask questions and suggested some products without any pressure to buy. I did end up leaving with a set of products she had used during my facial for my upcoming trip. It has been two days since my detox facial. My skin looks better than it has since before I had my son four years ago. It feels smoother and looks brighter. I feel ready for my special occasion coming up this weekend and can't wait to see Susan again to keep moving forward with treatments for my skin. Late Entry 9/29/14, 12:30PM: First impressions to me has always spoken hugh volumes, when it comes to owners and their business! Susan and her shop did just that for me! Her kindness and attentive personality towards my concerns for my dull, acne-prone and tired complexion went beyond what most shops in the past has done for me. I work in the medical field and my need to pamper myself showed greatly in my tired complexion and tired eyes. No rest for the medical personal, while we care for others in this aging world. Susan took into account my past experience with PhotoFacial (Laser involvement), "Regular" facials, glycolic peels with laser treatment, etc. The list can go on and on for ages with my kind of problems in the past. Susan listened and gave me feedback on her Microdermabrasion facial (which I came in for). She was knowledgeable about her treatments from PCA peels to the facials she gives her clients. We went over the need to waiting to see what the microderm can do for me after my first treatment. We discuss that the skin for each individual is different and reacts differently to treatments. Hence, we wait for the beautiful effects of my Microdermabrasion and then proceed towards another facial or peel. During my treatment, Susan and I had our small conversation here and there, while she prep items and started my treatment. The topic of our conversation I do not remember but the atmosphere of the room was beyond relaxing! All my senses were being catered to and I felt relaxed and sleepy. All the aromatic scents in the air help to further my experience during the facial and I couldn't help dose in and out (Okay, people I had enough sleep the night before). The scents in the air was crisp and clean smelling and most importantly was not over-powering like some places. I cannot wait for my next treatment! Susan and I discussed the PCA peels and my need to stay out of the sun but then again I am stuck inside a building Monday through Friday, so that will not be a problem! Additionally, Susan was a doll in getting me in on Sunday since I called her Saturday morning and it was last minute. To be honest, I was Yelping the word facial in the search engine all Saturday morning and the night before. I was looking for a new place for my facials, since I travel so far from work (Irvine) to home (Long Beach) to my "Facial" shop in Pasadena! Again, best impression I have experienced this year in costumer service. Susan accommodated me not only on a Sunday but also towards the time. I told her that I had a 11AM appointment that same Sunday and she delivered with giving me another appointment slot. It was great overall and finding this new place to add to my beauty regiment! She has done some amazing work with my hair for the past 3 years. Elizabeth more than knows what she's doing. In a sense she knows what my hair and I need. Going to start my review off with saying "WOW". Seriously have never been to such a great salon for waxing!! I have been getting brazillian waxes for about 3 years now and have tried probably about 12 different places. Now that I found Susan, not only will I never go anywhere else but I want to refer EVERYONE! Great customer service! Susan truly cares about all her clients. She makes sure that I leave happy and satisfied about the service i received every single time. Compared to every other salon I've been to, the way Susan waxes doesn't hurt at all! Almost painless compared to other salons. She's very personable &enjoys getting to talk to and get to know her clients. She makes it easy to get comfortable in an uncomfortable/ awkward situation (if Brazilians are awkward for you to get). She also makes sure to get every visible hair, which I love. Its the worst to go somewhere, pay money, and leave unhappy with some stragglers. Susan makes sure that doesn't happen:) Making appointments are also easy! Text messaging is usually a lot easier for me than calling, and if I ever need to make an appointment I can just text her and she responds quickly! If I get free time and need to make a same day appointment she usually makes sure she can squeeze me in Same day. If not she will make sure to schedule me as soon as possible which I love also. She has a very nice, comfortable waiting room if someone's waiting for you. Her prices are very reasonable! I've paid up to 80$ for a Brazillian and I've also had friends pay up to 75$. Susan charged me 55$ first visit and once I became a regular she bumped it down to 45$. I'm a student and I'm always searching for the least expensive services. $45 for what Susan provides is an amazing deal! Susan is the best!!! She has high standards in terms of cleaniness and sanitation. I am very very picky about waxing and spa services especially for sanitation reasons (if you're not, you should be!). There is no double dipping for waxing here which is harder to find in Southern California. I definitely screened out my waxing places before I met Susan and no one is as knowledgeable in the area of waxing and skin care as she is. She is quick and detailed when it comes to waxing. If you have particulars, she is very attentive also. It is worth finding a good esthetician and you can be sure you will find one in Susan. Plus, her prices are amazingly affordable! Facials-- I'm the least patient person and hate facials. After getting one from Susan, it's now a monthly must. I am so happy with the way my skin has looked since I started seeing Susan about a year ago (which I try to do once a month). My skin used to be so easy to take care of, but the last couple of years I have had more breakouts/blackheads than I ever had...and of course I made it worse by trying to poke at the spots myself. Susan knew what my skin needed from the start (I believe she uses the Essential Facial with glycolic) and it's been improving ever since. I usually go to Burke Williams for my facials but thought I'd try her out and support a local new business. I booked an appointment with Susan for my first ever professional microdermabrasion treatment. The salon is lovely, feminine and airy. I really loved Susan's manner. Very informative and what a blissful experience! The treatment was gentle and did not irritate my skin . I have sensitive skin and I didn't have any issues at all. And my skin is so glowy! I'm 46 so really taking a better interest in keeping that glowy look. I was so pleased with my experience that I booked another appointment for this weekend.
