I've been a patient of Dr Marra's since Nov of '24., was diagnosed with lyme or chronic lyme or post infectious lyme or whatever back in 2009. However my lyme literate physician retired in september of '24. I was bit by a tic in 2000 it took 9yrs to get diagnosed. Then in September I tested positive once again. Dr Marra was the only physician that my prior Dr said that she felt was competent enough in western washington, the other dr referrals were back east or San Francisco or Los Angelas. Quack. Spent $2k in one a hour and we got nothing in return. I felt the whole appointment was a joke. We were rushed in and out and forced to buy all these supplements - $2,000 later. My son didn't feel any different for even 1 day. Susan Marra also had her untrained dog in our appointment and it was was running around the entire time. She was training the dog during half our visit and looking back, I should have left when I walked in the door. People with lyme disease are so desperate to get help to feel better and their lives back they get completely taken advantage. She also ordered tons of blood work that we had to pay out of pocket - many of these tests were already taken by the infectious disease doctor and she didn't even take the time to review all the paperwork we gave her. UNTIL YOU REACH THIS POINT, you will NEVER understand the lifesaving value of Dr. Marra's work. Regarding out-of-pocket costs: watch the documentaries "Under Our Skin" (there are two). It will explain why doctors such as Dr. Marra who LEGITIMATELY heal people from Lyme and other vector-borne infections are unable to work with insurance companies, hence the lack of copays and paying full price for treatment. It is NOT these doctors' decision to do this; they have no choice if you want to stay alive. Watch the movies and you'll see. Regarding supplements & vitamins: again, if you want to properly treat these infections, your body needs to be working at the OPTIMAL level to be strong enough to fight the battle. Last year, I was barely making it through days, was worried about losing my job... I was just about as sick as it comes. Over the years, I had been diagnosed with: migraines, arthritis, carpal tunnel, multiple sclerosis, hashimoto's, sudden sensioneural hearing loss, vestibular disorder, TMJD, anxiety disorder, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia and more. When I got 9 new diagnoses in one year visiting other doctors I said NO WAY. No one is that unlucky and I asked my ND for an Igenex Lyme test. Once I tested positive, I went straight to Dr. Marra for treatment. I'd heard she'd gotten a friend of a friend well from Lyme years ago. Dr. Marra has been a godsend. Mind you, this is not your average doctor visit. First of all, her office is informal and visits include puppy kisses. You'll pay out of pocket for your visit, but I've had good luck with insurance reimbursement. Dr. Marra herself is very direct and blunt... her style isn't for the faint of heart. But HOLY MOLY does that woman know Lyme disease. She treats aggressively, but not recklessly. I frequently push my comfort zone, and the early months of treatment were difficult (this is normal, this is expected). She gingerly stepped me up onto all the necessary treatments, and she really responded awesomely whenever I called with concerns. I really hit my stride in months 4 and 5 of treatment. I'm 7 months into treatment now and I'd say I'm about 75% of the way better. She has balanced my medications and supplements beautifully - I have had no liver or kidney problems (we watch those closely) and ZERO gastrointestinal problems. Impressive!! It takes a lot of work to get well from Lyme, and unfortunately treatment is expensive. But I'm living proof that if you follow instructions (meds, diet, detox), if you are diligent about the treatment protocol Dr. Marra provides, you CAN get your life back. Today I'm working more than full time at Microsoft, socializing regularly, sleeping through the night and living most days pretty darn close to normal. I don't know how good Dr. Susan really is, I hope she is really worth the hassle. But their customer service is pathetic, even from the pre-screening I was a bit hesitant to schedule an appointment. All they talked about was how much they charge and all the possible work that I was going to need to get me started. Sounded to me like a bunch of money grabbers. Anyhow, I couldn't make it to my appointment so I called to cancel and right off the bat I got charged $200, even though I called within the time frame ((three days in advance but they don't count weekends)) but because I did it a minute before closing, none answered so I left a message. The next day I called to confirm they got my message, the receptionist was rude and told me that they were going to proceed with the charges anyways because leaving messages for a cancellation did not count. I explained to her my situation (suffice to say that issues at work came up that made extremely difficult to keep my schedule clear), she just didn't care. It was clear to me all they wanted was an excuse to take my money. Conclusion: very unreasonable and unethical customer service skills. Maybe it was cheaper to lose the $200 instead of $20,000-$30,000 with no results. Anyways, I will not be using Dr. Susan Marra services ever. read more

My own story is like many who have Lyme. Visits to countless Doctors only to be told I have fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, depression, MS, Lupus and asthma. For me, I knew none of those added up. I was finally told that it was all in my head. "You have a family, you are healthy, you work full time, are you lacking attention?" That is the final question I was asked before leaving that office and firing him as my Doctor for good. It has taken a tough few years of pain and symptom flare-ups but I am thankful to have found Dr. Marra in Seattle. She has saved my life and my daughter's life. My little girl was born with Lyme and one co-infection and had a rough start and hard first two years of her life. Multiple health issues, seizures and pain that she was not able to express until she started talking. She turns four on July 30th and with the right treatment and long term antibiotics the improvement in in the time she has been under Dr. Marra's care is incredible. There is also a great debate about the actual passing of Lyme through the placenta. Many say it's impossible but my daughter is proof that it can happen and that is very scary. Her primary doctor even said it was impossible. A "1 in a million chance" we were told. To us she is very special and we know she will do big things in her life and overcome Lyme is one of them. We need continued education of all medical Doctors and Nurses about the array of Lyme symptoms and its related infections in order to increase the number of health care providers who can recognize these illnesses before it's too late to treat. How many doctors do you know set aside a two hour time slot just to get to know you. She is able to ask the right questions to understand how best to treat. She treats my daughter with respect and that is a big deal to a four year old. My daughter sits on her lap during her check-up while she asks her questions about how she feels. Again, how many doctors do you know that do that. Most just ask the parents and don't even look at the child. When the AIDS epidemic came to light, activists screamed for attention to get testing and medical care. I hope Lyme patients will stand up and fight to get awareness out there. When I first met Dr. Marra in January 2014, I had just turned 31 and I had spent the last 2 years bed-ridden, going to a parade of over 22 specialists, none of whom could figure out what was wrong. After a thorough exam & clinical history, Dr. Marra looked at my mom and me and said, "I know what's wrong, and I can help you" and that's exactly what she has done. Most doctors are not Lyme literate, but Dr. Marra is and she knows how to treat it. The treatment isn't hard because she tells you exactly what to do and if you do what she says, you WILL get better. That said, treatment is not fun. Switching to a gluten free, dairy free & refined sugar free diet was a challenge because those were my favorite food groups and having to choke down dozens of pills per day and then suffer through the herxes was miserable. There were lots of times I wanted to give up, but I had lots of support from Dr. Marra, my family & friends so I kept pushing and a little over 2.5 years later, she's pulled me back from death's door, and I'm now able to walk my dog everyday, do yoga 2x/week and I've been cleared to work part time - something I once feared would never be possible again. My first visit with Dr Marra started out with her coming out to my car to tell me she had to run home and let her dog out. Was I surprised? Yes. Unconventional? Yes. But after the way I was treated at the high profile hospitals like Swedish and the U.W. I was wiling to give this a chance. So many doors had been closed in my face. So many doctors who never looked beyond their text books from med school and who couldn't test for or treat Lyme Disease on a bet. When the puzzle doesn't fit together their only recourse is, "it must be in your head." Results! When I first started seeing Dr Marra, I could walk, but very slowly and carefully. It was really hard to take care of myself, and I was not able to work. My wife contracted Lyme in her childhood and was only diagnosed 4 years ago after a series of hospital visits and wrong diagnosis after wrong diagnosis. Her condition had deteriorated to the point where we believed her life was almost over. I was diagnosed with Lyme disease and Babesia in September 2016. My symptoms started in 1990 and yes, it took 26 years and many google searches later (yay google!) to finally find a possible diagnosis for the symptoms that had plagued me for so long. I found an area doctor who treated Lyme and he ran the tests and confirmed I did indeed have Lyme and Babesia. I was under that doctor's care for a year and a half and he was a kind and thorough physician and the first doctor I had seen who believed me. I'd heard about Dr. Marra and was curious so I made an appointment with her February 2018. At my first appointment (and every one since) Dr. Marra did the full routine - checked my weight, BP, reflexes, cognitive ability and went over each medicine I was taking and what dose. She asked me to bring a binder with page holders to put each month's treatment plan in, newest on top. The treatment plan consists of the supplements and prescription medicines for the month and how and when to take them. Also, and hugely important, Dr Marra has had, and has recovered from, Lyme. She also studied with the best Lyme doctors on the East Coast and has extensive knowledge of tick borne illnesses. Dr Marra is thorough and there is a level of discipline required to take the supplements and follow the plan. Dr. Marra saved my husband's life - without her quick, effective treatment he would not be recovering, which he is doing now. We have been both seeing her since Nov. 2012. We came down from Victoria BC, as treatment here was more than useless, and my husband was going downhill fast. I didn't even know I had Lyme, she could see it in my engorged thyroid. She sent us for extensive testing, which was necessary to know what we had and didn't have. We follow her advice explicitly, if we didn't, it wouldn't work as well as it has. I don't easily give five stars to anyone, but I feel compelled to give it to the woman who has saved my life. When I first stumbled into Dr. Marra's office, I could barely piece sentences together. I had no quality of life at all. As a homeschool mother, that was not going to work for me or my family. When she first ordered the mounds of blood work she required, I thought she was crazy, but when the results came in and we learned how many things were wrong with me I was grateful for her knowledge and experience. Lyme disease and co-infections are not cheap or easy to treat no matter where you go for help. The treatment is not quick and insurance doesn't cover most of the cost. I have never been coerced into buying Dr. Marra's supplements. I usually do purchase them from her because after a lot of research I have found that she is usually equal to or a little over or under what I can find on Amazon. I went to countless practitioners, over years, in search of help for the physical and emotional symptoms (of Lyme disease). Dr. Marra was the first person who knew how to help me, and the change since beginning treatment 7 months ago has been amazing!
