The bentos have great portions and easily stand as one of the best tasting bento in SCV. If you're picky, they will have something you will LOVE! My family of 5 eats here few times a month. First time trying this place today. Placed an order for pick up. Person over the phone was having a hard time understanding what I want but eventually gets it. I asked for spicy mayo and eel sauce on the side. I go to pick up, starving at this point so I didn't double check if it was correct. I got to the car to eat, of course they forgot the sauces & made tuna instead of spicy tuna . Food tasted good but they are not good at doing hand rolls. Never had chuck of tuna or yellowtail diced in a hand roll. They fell out before even trying to eat it. The bottom of the hand roll was not done right. As if they didn't care. Been coming here for years. Food is great and service has been questionable but our most recent experience warrants this review. We walked inside, about 60% of the tables were empty. The host asked us to wait a few minutes in order to sit. We stood there for 20 mins, not one update or even look from them. They literally ignored us as we stood by the front door, while half the restaurant was completely empty. We are patient and could have waited but at least sit us at a table while we wait. I have been coming here for years, we have drank with the owner Song, and have spent thousands of thousands of dollars here. We will take our business somewhere else from now on, their service is terrible. It was tolerable in the past but now it's just flat out terrible. Do yourselves a favor, go to Mr. Sushi in Valencia. My friend that use to live nearby recommended this sushi place to me and we have gone twice now in the past month. The rolls and bento box I've tried were filling, big portions and the bento box is big enough to share with two people. I got one bento box with bulgogi and I thought the meat had to many nerve ending and was very chewy but other than that everything tasted amazing. The miso soup was really tasty and the rolls spicy! I think the garlic edimame was too overwhelming and wouldn't get it again. Noodles presented as Italian spaghetti. Nothing screams louder that you aren't invested in your ramen offering than using spaghetti noodles........ Lost interest about half way through. Service was fine. Ambiance: Place lacked feng shui, though the TVs offering sports was a plus. About 18-20 seats at the sushi bar all filled at 2:30pm Sunday. They have TVs where you can watch the games and very lively. It's a small space but took my baby in the stroller and it has never been an issue of where we will fit. Impromptu stop because I was hungry. I don't live in this area, only come around this way to go to Cakepopbox Shop. (Amazing shop) Anyway..... wanted to grab something quick (not fast food) and saw Sushi 661. Checked reviews first, can't be too picky with sushi places, saw a 4.5 star good rating so went inside. No pictures of the inside because truthfully, I wasn't planning on leaving a review. It was a quick bite and I feel a true review deserves more than an in and out visit. However...... when I opened my to go order in the car I changed my mind. So let's start with first impressions. The restaurant is small yet quaint and clean. Very typical sushi bar set up. The chefs looked presentable and professional. The wait staff was very friendly and the turn around for my 1 roll was quick. The price with tax was just over $10 so the price point is comparable for a cut roll. I got a spicy tuna roll. The taste was fresh but nothing special. The presentation was horrible. My roll came apart when picking it up. So it wasn't rolled tight enough. And the spicy tuna was the consistency of raw hamburger. Yes I know that's the standard. BUT.... when the presentation of the roll is tight and the cucumber pieces are plentiful, mine was very sparse and not through the entire roll, only the middle 4 pieces. The crunch of the cucumber makes the consistency of the tuna not present as mushy. Mine was mushy feeling. Which ISN'T appealing to the pallette. Everything about this roll just felt like it was rushed with lack of effort. So the question is... would I come here again. No! Like I said, I don't live here so they won't be hurting from me not returning. It's obvious by their ratings they get enough local business. Although it would have been nice to find a little place I could frequent when I'm in town, this just isn't the place for me. I went here two weeks ago and the food was good. Today I went with my friend and put my name down for the table and the host said that it was only gonna be a couple of minutes we're just cleaning your table. "We'll come out and get you when it's ready." There was no one inside when we were there he said can you wait outside for a minute an hour goes by. I was checking in constantly and didn't get seated still. Another lady that was outside same thing happened to her. They didn't forget about us. They sat everyone before us and they could see us through the glass Mind you it's hot af outside. 97 degrees. I'm sweating. An hour!!! We got there before all the people and got seated last. I saw the notebook and he scratched everyone's name off but mine. Anyways he finally seats us and the service was terrible. And no apology. We said no spicy and one of the rolls was spicy. And my friend orders edamame and didn't recieve it and they really wanted it and talked about how good it was from here. And it never came and they tried putting it on the bill. First time here and I'm happy to report, we were very surprised! It's kind of tucked in a spot you wouldn't expect but it's a little gem! Many yellowtail rolls or yellowtail sashimi have been tried over the years and my husband said this is one of the best he's had in a long time! He just kept saying how great it was! They recently remodeled, so I appreciate the chill, family vibe of the restaurant, and its cleanliness. My family of four always try to sit at the large sushi bar where we can directly order our food but last time it was busy so we sat at a table. Still the service was impeccable. The servers were attentive and friendly and gave us some great recommendations. Food wise, my wife and I always go for sushi and rolls. You can't go wrong with anything you order. The flavors are always on point and I appreciate that it's like eating a work of art on a plate. My son loves the ramen which is a rich pork broth, while my daughter is an edamame and shrimp tempura monster. Both of which are super delicious. Suji and her sister are always so kind, and there's one male server who is consistently friendly -- he even recognizes us and sometimes asks, "Only the two of you today? No Papa?" That's how often we come, and that's how welcome we usually feel. Unfortunately, today was different. There is an elder Asian lady who I've seen many times before. I'm Asian myself, so I honestly thought that would make our interactions feel more comfortable or familiar. But I've always sensed she wasn't particularly warm toward me, and today confirmed that feeling. I noticed she lit up around other customers -- especially the Caucasian ones -- chatting, laughing, and being very friendly, while her demeanor toward me was noticeably different. She approached me asking if the male server had taken my ramen order form. I said yes and started explaining my special request (my daughter doesn't eat veggies, so I always ask for no greens). While I was still talking, she walked away. She came back again to ask if the form she was holding was mine. I said no and tried to explain again, but she walked away mid‑sentence a second time. I tried to brush it off, thinking maybe she didn't hear me. But the contrast in how she treated other tables versus how she treated me was hard to ignore. Later, when she passed by, I politely asked for napkins. She handed them to me, and I thanked her. When I finished my tempura, she came to clear the plate. I asked if I could have lemon slices -- something I always request, and something the other servers usually bring without me even asking because they know my routine. Her response shocked me. She said, "What else do you want? Tell me now, because every time I pass you ask for something." I was stunned. I never expected a server to speak to me that way, especially in a place I've supported for years. I have an 8‑year‑old special‑needs child whom I cannot leave unattended, and being made to feel like a burden for asking for basic items was hurtful and humiliating. After that, I didn't want to ask for anything else. I even stood up to get chopsticks myself because I didn't want to feel that same sting again. I couldn't even finish my food -- we just asked for everything to go. When the bill came, I crossed out the tip and wrote, "Sorry, no tip -- the lady wasn't nice to us." I hated doing that because I always tip, but I needed her to understand how her words affected us. I still love Sushi 661 -- their food, their usual staff, and the comfort it has always brought us. So ten years ago I came here for the first time, its still good ten years later....but different. The biggest difference is there is no longer an AYCE menu. I used to break the place and walking slowly away with a sushi baby on the many occasions I came here before. On my first time back to CA in three years this was the place I really wanted to go and eat. The restaurant is clean and not that big, we came in early (around 3:30 on Wednesday), there were a few customers but not many. I found out about the loss of the AYCE and after my inner screaming stopped, I ordered two 911 rolls, a cut eel roll and sea scallops....all my favorites and they were all delicious. The family we came with had not been here and said they would definitely come back. Sadly for me it might be the last time unless they open a new location in North Carolina...sigh. This place was an unexpected surprise as it is has become our go to spot and we prefer it over most places that we used to go to in LA before we moved here! The Hama roll is my absolute favorite. Their yellowtail is always so fresh and I never get enough. Try the yellowtail and albacore hand rolls (and ask them to make it a little spicy) you won't regret it.
