Lovely spot for drinks and dinner in Santa Clarita. I was in the area running errands and decided to grab dinner nearby on a Thusday evening around 6:30 pm. I found this place on Yelp and dropped by for dinner. My party of 2 was seated immediately. Personally I thought the menus were hard to read. The gray lines in the background were quite dark and clashed with the actual menu items. My suggestion to the restaurant would be to reprint the menus with lighter background. They have an extensive cocktail menu with a lot of gin-based drinks. They also have good selection of wine and NA drinks as well, including some mocktails. I got the I'm Driving mocktail ($13), which I really liked. It had good passion fruit flavor without being too sour. Felt like a really nice tropical juice. My friend really liked his drink Bramblin' Man ($17), which had strong notes of bourbon and blackberry. I wasn't super hungry, but the braised short rib looked amazing so I got that for $43. It was very tender, but I personally found it bland especially on the inside. I asked for additional sauce so I could drench each bite in the sauce. We are so fortunate to have such a wonderful restaurant in Old Town Newhall. I have been going here since they opened and I am shocked that this is my first review. In fact, OT Junction played an important role for our community during the pandemic. We were able to purchase many staples like milk, eggs, produce, and their delicious bread while also picking up lunch or dinner to-go. Today you will find top-notch service, creative flavorful cuisine, a view of the kitchen staff hard at work, and great spirits. They recently changed their menu and it does not disappoint. In our recent visit for lunch we shared the brussel sprouts, which are out of this world. Roasted perfectly with crispy lardons, apple compote, pecans and a sherry reduction for the most addicting dish. We also ordered the Kalbi Tacos with the flavor filled braised short ribs, candied cashews and a wonderful kimchi slaw and chilis. It is so hard to not order these two items every time! You will find street parking and the free public parking structure nearby. A great bar and extensive cocktails and wine offerings. This place is worth the drive if you do not live nearby. Beautiful ambiance and great service by the lovely Tatiana. She recommended the Fried artichokes for our appetizers, and I'm SO glad she did! Absolutely delicious! They were lightly crispy with the lemon ricotta and fig drizzle. For me, these were the star of the show! My friend and I shared the Prime Rib Frenchie which and a Cesar's salad side, and it was delicious. We opted to not have the cheese added to it, but I definitely would add it next time. Meh. Maybe I just didn't order the right thing? I did make an adjustment to my order. So perhaps that was the problem? We went here for a Mom's Night Out. I had eaten a little earlier, but thought well I can get a little something to nibble on tonight then have lunch for tomorrow. I had a hard time choosing because everything looked good but not great. I was craving pasta, but all of their pasta options had seafood or red meat and I don't like either. They did have a vegetarian pasta option, but it wasn't appealing to me. The waitress suggested I get one of the meat pasta options without the meat. However I didn't want to pay $35 for noodles and marinara sauce. She said I could sub chicken so that worked out. The pasta looked decent when it came out. But it had no flavor other than the tomatoes and maybe a hint of garlic. The chicken was very bland as well. I did like the type of pasta that they used and it was cooked well. So I can definitely doctor the dish up at home. My friends seemed to like their food fine enough. No one was raving about anything though. For dessert we got the blueberry butter cake which we were told was made in house. We were expecting something decadent, soft, and warm. However it's served cold and was very dense. My friends enjoyed it enough though and they finished it off. Oh and this slice of cake was $15. I think if the prices were more reasonable I wouldn't have minded the lackluster nature of the food. But for what we paid I just wasn't impressed. This is SCV though, so I can see this being a hit for the area. The decor is nice with a modern trendy style, and the chairs were nice and comfortable. Our waitress was nice enough. It's always a win finding a restaurant on the fly where both vegans and meat eaters can enjoy themselves. I'm part-time vegan so I really appreciate when a menu is flexible and most dishes here can be modified. A friend and I stopped in for a quick bite and the experience was pretty easy. We found parking right across the street and were seated right away. She ordered the cabbage steak (without the cheese) with the OTJ crispy potatoes. She said the cabbage steak was nicely seared and full of flavor even without the cheese. I had the Soba noodle and hanger steak which was fresh and filling but not too heavy. Note: (Two of us substituted the carrot and puree for fries and they were more than happy to accommodate) Fried Artichoke : was an amazing way to start the meal! On the way to visit Hart High School for a Show Choir Competition, we decided to stop early for dinner, so we dropped into The Old Town Junction on a Saturday afternoon. The atmosphere was nice - a little elevated over typical old town Village restaurants. We were promptly sat and started checking out the drinks menu. It was about 10 minutes before they got to our table for drinks but after that they were on it. I had one of the three draft beers and it was okay. Gwen enjoyed her cocktail and I took a sip. It was pretty darn good, but I'm a coconut fan and with toasted bits of coconut on top, I had to try it. We started with a side of fries and they were the breaded sort. They were good. Not amazing. I sometimes feel that breaded fries are taking the easy way out. Last night, we had the Pomme Frites at The Back Abbey in Claremont and I much prefer those. I decided on a steak salad although I normally don't call salad dinner. Gwen had the fried chicken sandwich and Lori had the club. My salad was not great. The salad portion was actually better than the steak, which feels wrong to type. The steak was not seared enough to give it a good flavor. The inside was med rare to rare in spots and yet I ordered medium. It was stringy and just not the best. For $25 for a salad, I was hoping for a little more. I took a bite of Gwen's sandwich and our friend Lori shared half her club with me. The chicken sandwich was also pretty good. Didn't wow me but it was better than my meal. Lori's club was also solid but not great. Overall, a solid 4. Service was great after they showed up. The atmosphere was nice and I'd consider coming back to try other dishes. That said the main menu items were pricy and the experience doesn't seem to warrant the price of some of the items they listed. I had the cottage pie and my husband had the shrimp vodka pasta. He definitely enjoyed the giant prawns and the smoky vodka sauce. The pasta was more than he could finish, especially after the focaccia. My cottage pie was outstanding! The two cuts of beef, the vegetables, and the demi all blended beautifully with just the right amount of seasoning. We ordered the prime rib sandwich, loco moco, wedge salad, & kids cheeseburger meal. The prime rib sandwich was 10/10 warm & flavorful packed with tons of meat. The loco moco didn't taste like your traditional loco moco however it was still enjoyable. The wedge salad was another 10/10 & something I will never not order. I highly recommend ordering if you're someone who likes bacon as they give you thick steak like pieces of bacon all over the salad. Lastly, even the kids meal was impressive I was shocked by how big the portions were it could actually pass as an adult size burger so safe to say you're definitely getting your moneys worth. I went here for dinner tonight. Overall, the food was decent, we ordered the citrus endive salad and the short rib plate. Unfortunately, the citrus endive salad was very disappointing. It had almost no flavor, no noticeable citrus, and was extremely plain. I mentioned this to our waiter, and he kindly offered to replace it, but by then we had already finished our meal. We couldn't eat the salad because it just wasn't good. Despite that, we were still charged for the salad, which was disappointing. Not sure I'd rush back anytime soon. BEST THURSDAY EVER. Thursday may be my new favorite night of the week. Had dinner reservations at 7 and exceeded all expectations. John went ABOVE AND BEYOND to make sure we had an amazing experience. I had a special request that was really a shot in the dark and the staff delivered in the most spectacular fashion. There may even have been (happy) tears. The duck poutine starter was fantastic, and the "quite rare" tomahawk steak was delicious and perfectly done. On our way home my husband commented that he has never had fries like that! Martinis, Milestones, and a Three-Course Anniversary in 30 Minutes or Less We chose The Old Town Junction for our seventh wedding anniversary because nothing says "still going strong" like splitting a wedge salad in Downtown Newhall. The restaurant has that confident, modern-comfort vibe, like it was designed by someone who owns too many cutting boards and has strong feelings about Edison bulbs. We were ready for a slow, celebratory dinner. The Junction, however, had other plans. What followed was a well-executed, technically excellent meal served with the urgency of a restaurant trying to break its own land speed record. Tasty, yes. Intimate? Not a chance. THE DIRTY MARTINI: COLD, SALTY, FLAWLESS We kicked things off with The Dirty: a blue cheese olive martini that hit like a revelation. Cold, briny, balanced, and absolutely without apology. I've spent decades running restaurants and venues, and this one knocked me back in my chair. I would drive here again just for that drink and think about it the whole way there. We both took one sip, locked eyes, and silently agreed: this martini deserved our full respect, and possibly its own cult. STARTERS: FRIED ARTICHOKES AND A RELIGIOUS EXPERIENCE Look, I already like vegetables. I don't need them disguised. But these fried artichokes? These were holy. Crisp without being greasy, seasoned without being obnoxious, and hot enough to remind you someone in the kitchen actually cares. I'd join a second cult based on these. I'd pass out flyers. The wedge salad was textbook: crisp lettuce, thick bacon, generous dressing. There was no drama, no reinvention, just a great salad doing its job, quietly outperforming most of what came after. ENTRÉE: FILET MIGNON, POTATOES, ASPARAGUS... AND REGRET Then came the filet. Cooked fine. Looked fine. Tasted like absolutely nothing. (I'm assuming kissing Obi-Wan Kenobi's Force Ghost tastes the same) It was steak in form only, a protein ghost. The potatoes were aggressively unseasoned, and the asparagus, while technically present, made such little impression I forgot it happened until I realized it didn't even do the one thing asparagus is famous for. Nothing. My pee stayed normal. I don't trust it. SERVICE & PACING: A MILITARY-STYLE OPERATION Our server was great. Fast, efficient, professional. But the pacing of the meal felt like we'd accidentally signed up for competitive eating. Appetizers landed while we were still settling in. Salads followed so closely behind that we briefly considered stacking plates. The entrées were on the table before we'd finished chewing. By the time we remembered it was our anniversary, the check was down and the table was reset for the next lucky couple. Total run time: 31 minutes. A full three-course dinner in the time it takes to boil pasta. Romantic! FINAL THOUGHTS: COME BACK WITH A PLAN The Old Town Junction is talented. The drinks are outstanding. The starters are memorable. The space is comfortable, and the staff is on it. But if you're looking for a dinner with a beginning, middle, and end, you'll need to fight for it. Service here is top notch. They know when to come in and check in and make sure everything is good but give you great time to visit and eat their good food and enjoy the drinks. The food is top notch and served 100% to the order of each of us. The prime rib was top notch and served to the perfect rareness as I ordered. Their straight horseradish was perfect and everything was the perfect t serving. We also did the fried artichokes which was amazing and also served what I thought was a mini pork chop at first but the artichokes were perfect as the appetizer before the main course. They have a lovely outside patio in front of the restaurant. As we waited for our server, he delivered the most scrumptious smelling food and I wanted that smell at my table too! It was the braised shortribs, which didn't disappoint. Very lean, nice sized portion of shortrib, along with potato croquettes and a few tiny onions nicely braised. My daughter ordered an old favorite if it's prepared correctly - poutine. Oh yeah, cooked in duck confit and perfectly fried cheese curds and potatos. I don't even know what the gravy was but it was great! It's not really close to where we live, but I just might need to drag some family and friends up there! Our server was very well versed and was helpful. I ordered American breakfast and my husband ordered an omelette plate. For the price point, the food was very mediocre.
