This little box of goodness rivals some omakases I've had in person. The fish was fresh, and the rice was perfect temperature without falling apart. Even the box felt like it was a high end gift box. Everything is tucked away in this box: chopsticks, napkins, sauce dishes, fresh real wasabi, and even soy sauce from a tiny bottle. What a treat. The first time I got the omakase box I didn't love having to sauce/wasabi it myself but I think that's just being picky. The last time I got the omaakase box, the omakase chirashi and the maki flight. The omakase box is a good assortment with a shimi, salad, two maki rolls and 10 nigiri. The pieces vary with premium ingredients like kinmedai, ikura, uni, toro, etc. It's costly at $62 but I think you get what you pay for. The chirashi had a variety of sashimi, lots of ikura and plenty of sushi rice. It's very good but for $50 I'd rather kick in more $ for the omakase. Maki Flight is great, $21 for a sampling of their three best rolls. It's 12 pieces total but they're nice size with a good amount of filling. If you're looking to treat yourself for lunch or maybe a nicer dinner takeaway - solid choice. I'm convinced enough that I'll try Joji for real one night.

Today I was told to get online at the other counter with the regular customers. When I reached the cashier I was shown the MealPal QR code. Then the women seemed to go get my food from the shelf but just disappeared. No explanation. No communication. The two other ladies at the registers also have no communication. I was invisible. I stood there 5-10 minutes before someone brought my food from the back. It would be professional to share with your customer what is going on. I would appreciate it being told my food will be coming from the back and they'll be a few minutes late. Just that simple action would put the customer at ease. Service I get here is worse than I get in Chinatown from grumpy old men. You can always tell if the employees are happy or not. And they always take it out on the consumers.

They have an OK selection of snacks and food, with the drink selection being particularly minuscule, even compared to Katagiri. In terms of prepared food, I have had a few things. My recommendation would be their pretty good onigiri. They are decently priced and especially past 6 with a pretty ample filling. It's obviously not as good as Omusubi Gonbei, further over on Lex, several blocks further south, but it gets the job done and is better than Dainobu's versions of onigiri/omusubi. The hot food is also decent, with a decent and unique eel bowl/unagi don and a pretty good beef bowl/mori don. The former one is a bit different than usual, having a soy sauce egg, which is a fun addition. I wish the eel were a bit more grilled, but the price is reasonable enough past 6, though I definitely wouldn't pay $13.95 for it. The beef bowl is more typical, but a bit better and more worth it for the price point. Even though the onigiri are good, I would not recommend their sushi much at all. There isn't a huge selection of rolls, and the maki contains mostly cool rice. Otherwise, there are little bits of fish, but at least the avocado wasn't bad. It's better than the sushi you can get at most supermarkets, but that's not saying much. This is a small place offering alright Japanese food.
