Seems like Pura Vida has popped up in a lot of neighborhoods. We stopped by the Flatiron location for a weekend brunch. This location has several tables outside. The menu is large so there is something for everyone. Various eggs, smoothies, pancakes, salads, sandwiches, bowls and wraps to choose from. We ordered the falafel crunch wrap and chicken pesto sandwich. The wrap was stuffed with fresh veggies. The chicken sandwich was cooked well and quite filling. I'm happy to see that pura vida opened in NY. If you are familiar with them, then you already know the food is expensive for being a casual place. Whether that's worth it to you is your call. It is to me- I like the high quality ingredients. It was a long wait for the food but the math is simple: they had a line at the register and were also doing takeout orders. It's only so big of a place. I think expanding the restaurant to be bigger would ruin the charm and was fine with the 15 min wait. If you just want instant food or don't like lines then maybe don't come. This is a Miami gem and I am so happy to be able to indulge it in while in NY. Wanted to like this place given the hype and popularity but ended up underwhelmed. Waited in like for 15 minutes which from what I understand isn't too bad for a Sunday brunch. Ordered two bowls and two coffees but they got my order wrong and only one drink came out. But this was fine cause even though I said 2 drinks and they only inputted 1, I got the one I was charged for. Managed to get a seat and the first chicken bowl came out about 30 minutes after ordering which was very long but fine. The second bowl never came and we had to ask two separate people before the second bowl came out at around 45 minute mark. The bowls themselves were good but the crazy wait was too much and soured our experience. I understand it was busy but customer inflow control may have helped to make sure the adequate staff coverage to handle the orders coming in. The location itself was bright and clean. I never review but honestly I ordered a toasted chicken wrap to go and btw I'm from Miami and a regular.... I ended up with a wrap that has chicken , welted weird lettuce and goat cheese and tomato's. I've never even seen that on the menu. It's so bothersome for the price I paid and to get home after walking and open this up to find something I did not order is deeply disappointing. I usually don't leave reviews but this deserved it. They have outdoor tables, but it was extremely windy and about 40 degrees outside. I was really excited when one of my favorite places to get an Acai Bowl in Miami opened a location in the city, and in my neighborhood nonetheless. I met my friends here for brunch and ordered the egg wrap, which unfortunately I did not love. The atmosphere was nice, through there is a "new" paint smell in the tables outside. The main reason the rating is a 4 instead of 5 is the service. I ordered for pickup and then sat at the tables. The idea is that you can pick up the food and then grab an open table. It took 40 minutes for the food to be ready. More importantly, the servers could not figure out a system for the people who ordered ahead. First, they asked me to wait outside. Then another server told other people to go inside. Another server asked for my order number. That person went inside to check for my order every so often. After I noticed that some people who ordered ahead came back out with their orders, I went inside and found my order. I also heard another server ask whether they had shut down the online ordering system because of how overwhelmed they were. Ok so the place is "new" and very popular. Maybe that's why they are overwhelmed. Well, to be clear, it's been open for at least a couple of weeks and they still have not figured out a system that works. They seem to still be playing it "by ear," on the fly. They seem to have more servers figuring out what to do than people making food in the kitchen. Having more servers doesn't seem to help. Unless they get their act together quickly, it may be best to wait until the place is less popular so that they can better handle orders. read more
