stopped by on a weekday morning for a quick bakery treat. i decided to try the chocolate croissant & there was only one left in the case. the croissant had a wonderful flaky, crispy texture that paired really well with the warm dark chocolate inside. compared to other chocolate croissants i've had, this one probably had a little less chocolate filling, but the taste was still great. the contrast between the flaky layers and the soft, warm center was superb. the staff was kind, and it took about 10 minutes to get my croissant warmed up. i would say it may take a little more time than expected to get your food, especially if you're in a rush like i was. otherwise, the space is really nice. they don't have many prepared grab-and-go items, but they do have a good selection of baked goods and the option to sit down and eat. i also noticed later that they had some lunch meals available to go, which is something i'd definitely look into trying next time. read more

Raspberry croissant and a hot cappuccino. Here Pura Vida does not have skim or low fat milk. As I don't care for oat or almond milk in hot coffee I had to settle for whole milk. Lots of delivery orders are being done. Customer service is good here as a few people came up to ask if I needed anything extra. I'm happy to see that pura vida opened in NY. If you are familiar with them, then you already know the food is expensive for being a casual place. Whether that's worth it to you is your call. It is to me- I like the high quality ingredients. It was a long wait for the food but the math is simple: they had a line at the register and were also doing takeout orders. It's only so big of a place. I think expanding the restaurant to be bigger would ruin the charm and was fine with the 15 min wait. If you just want instant food or don't like lines then maybe don't come. This is a Miami gem and I am so happy to be able to indulge it in while in NY. But this was fine cause even though I said 2 drinks and they only inputted 1, I got the one I was charged for. Managed to get a seat and the first chicken bowl came out about 30 minutes after ordering which was very long but fine. The second bowl never came and we had to ask two separate people before the second bowl came out at around 45 minute mark. The bowls themselves were good but the crazy wait was too much and soured our experience. I understand it was busy but customer inflow control may have helped to make sure the adequate staff coverage to handle the orders coming in. The location itself was bright and clean. While the order took long to come out, they were very quick to take our bowls away the moment we were done. 2.5/5 would be my more accurate personal review though rounding up cause the food was still good. read more

This time around, there was no crowd and I was able to get my order and sit down. There is seating indoors, as well as lots of shaded seating outdoors, which I really liked. Great for people watching while you chow down, but you have to be quick to claim a table. My friend and I came at just the right time, so we snagged one. They really need to come up with a better order pickup system, however, because you have to wait indoors where it gets kind of crowded, and listen for your number, which you might miss. Had a pricey but delicious workday lunch here! It definitely did transport me to Miami (loved the decor). It seemed pretty popular for both takeout and dining in. The line moved decently quick (you order at a counter and then take a number on a stand to a table). There is also free water available. The servers were all very friendly and the dishes came out pretty quickly. The portion you get with the salads is incredible and helps justify the price. I ordered the New Yorker which unfortunately was not worth the price given the portion size (the bread was also not great and way too hard to cut into). I did like the empanadas though! For the past two years, I have been a regular customer at this establishment, and today was the first time I experienced such rude and disrespectful behavior from a staff member (unfortunately, I do not know her name it started with a B) I was waiting for my order and I had two employees having a personal conversation infront of me and the girl who was being unprofessional was near the expo station and bringing food to the table. The girl at the front remained calm but the girl running the food was being very inappropriate I don't think it's appropriate for employees to having personal conversations let alone arguments Infront of a customer. I find this behavior unprofessional. Additionally, I would like to point out that this establishment is always late with online orders and the workers are not pleasant. They have outdoor tables, but it was extremely windy and about 40 degrees outside. There was a staff member in front greeting people at the door with a menu that told me they would let me know once a table opens up inside. They did not - the staff seemed too busy chatting with each other. Overall, I felt extremely out of place. I was really excited when one of my favorite places to get an Acai Bowl in Miami opened a location in the city, and in my neighborhood nonetheless. I met my friends here for brunch and ordered the egg wrap, which unfortunately I did not love. I'm not someone that needs a lot of extras (I eat plain eggs on toast all the time) but this wrap was just kind of blah and unappealing. The atmosphere was nice, through there is a "new" paint smell in the tables outside. The main reason the rating is a 4 instead of 5 is the service. I ordered for pickup and then sat at the tables. The idea is that you can pick up the food and then grab an open table. It took 40 minutes for the food to be ready. More importantly, the servers could not figure out a system for the people who ordered ahead. First, they asked me to wait outside. Then another server told other people to go inside. Another server asked for my order number. That person went inside to check for my order every so often. After I noticed that some people who ordered ahead came back out with their orders, I went inside and found my order. I also heard another server ask whether they had shut down the online ordering system because of how overwhelmed they were. Ok so the place is "new" and very popular. Maybe that's why they are overwhelmed. Well, to be clear, it's been open for at least a couple of weeks and they still have not figured out a system that works. They seem to still be playing it "by ear," on the fly. They seem to have more servers figuring out what to do than people making food in the kitchen. Having more servers doesn't seem to help. Unless they get their act together quickly, it may be best to wait until the place is less popular so that they can better handle orders. read more

This place is a favorite in Miami, and it finally came to NYC! I attended their Grand Opening today (7/19) and there was already a line when I got here at 12:15. It went pretty fast, 10-15 min or so before reaching the front. The manager was so nice, running around to pass out menus and thanking us for waiting. We also got a free blue Pura Vida tote bag. The format of this place is you order at the front, and then find seating. It was super packed so we got our food to-go, but ended up snagging a table indoors. The inside is so cute, very white and beachy with cute pops of greenery. There's a fun elevated seating area in the back too by the bathrooms. The workers are super friendly and wear the cutest scrabble letter name tags. They also kept checking in to ask how the food was and if we needed anything. Okay for the food! I ordered the Perfect Egg Sandwich, which is a sourdough bagel with soft boiled egg, avocado, arugula, tomato, mozz, and a choice of sourdough bagel (plain, everything, sesame. I got it with the plain. I also got a Lulu's Lemons juice which I heard was someone else's favorite. The bagel sandwich was so delicious! The eggs were jammy and the arugula gave a nice bite. It came with Pura Vida sauce, which is tangy and delicious and really elevated the sandwich. The juice is also tasty with the chia seeds, and the bottle is so cute! My friend got the veggie omelette which came with smashed avocado and was very good as well. I did prefer my egg sandwich though. Overall I loved Pura Vida for their fresh and tasty food and drinks, super cute space, friendly service, and overall vibe. I can really see why it's a staple in Miami.
