I come here quiet often since I live very close to it. I have been there at lunch a few times, but mainly go for dinner. The last time I was there my husband and I went for lunch and they have a fantastic deal on sushi for lunch. We ordered a few rolls, miso soup and edamame. Everything came out very quickly. When we got the check we were shocked at the price since the sushi rolls we ordered were half off. Then I read the sign a little more closely and you only get the half off sushi if you order a drink. When someone came to get the bill we asked if we could get a to go soda and she was happy to do that and fix the bill. When the soda came out we got two and were charged for two when we only asked for one. Needless to say I don't know if our $39 lunch was worth it. I may still come here for dinner, but I think I might travel the extra 15 minutes to go somewhere a little more affordable. read more

I checked this place out because I am just dying to find a good sushi place in the Northwest side! We ended up there on a Saturday night and the place had patrons but it wasn't packed and we were seated right away. The place looked really new and had a faint new paint or furniture smell. We ask the server when they were opened and she tells us 4 months ago! There is a bar, sushi bar, and the usual dining area. The decor is nice and modern, but nothing exciting. The servers were definitely nice and attentive, but I feel that for a night that wasn't packed, we kept getting different servers asking the same thing... maybe they need to communicate with one another... We go with the All You Can Eat Sushi (AYCES) for $19.95... and mind you I don't typically go with this because there's all these rules- can't share with non-"all you can eat" people, if you have leftovers, they'll charge, etc. etc. Plus, I know the menu selection for the AYCES is limited to the general stuff. So, what I do is order things with no or less rice so it doesn't fill me up ;) Okay.. to the food- for the two of us we had veg/shrimp tempura, edamame, gyoza, yakitori, nigiri- salmon, yellowtail, red clam, maguro, unagi, mackeral, rolls- rainbow and catepillar. The tempura was nice and crispy but maybe a little too much batter. Edamame was yummy- it came hot with sea salt sprinkled on top. Gyoza was "eh"... I could do without...and the chicken yakitori was hot and flavorful. Sushi- the great thing is that they didn't pack it with rice. But out of all the sushi, the salmon was definitely the freshest- and it just melted in your mouth. Usually unagi (eel) is my absolute fav, but the salmon did it for me. The quality of the rest were pretty good. The bill came out to about $50 with a couple beers added to our meal. For all that way ate and what the price would have been ala carte, the AYCES price totally helped us out. I don't know how this place gets such good reviews. I have been here twice. The first time, I came for carry-out. I waited 45 min for my food. When I got home, I realized I was given the wrong order. I'm pretty sure my order was switched with the other person who was also waiting for carry-out. The second time, my boyfriend and I came to dine in. We were seated right away. We then waited 45 min before anyone came to our table. No water, no service. We then placed our order. When we got our miso soup, it tasted watered down. We waited another hour before we got our food. 1 hr and 45 min wait for 3 sushi rolls. When we actually got our food, the sushi was subpar. The rolls were falling apart. It was just not that good. I would never wait that long for sushi of this quality and horrible service. read more

We liked the sushi very much. The music was a little loud for me but I'm getting old. We were seated immediately and the wait for our meal to be prepared was not long. Lesson learned Sushi Cortaro. Came for the AYCE and learned a great lesson. Don't go wasting your pig-out space on rolls or the tempura appetizers. You will be sorry. Next time I'm sticking to the nigiri. The fish was fresh, and large thickish slices. Since it's AYCE, they could be super stingy on the fish and just stuff you with rice since they charge if you don't eat the rice or over order and waste food, however the salmon and yellowtail nigiri didn't disappoint. I was very disappointed that the scallop was like bay scallops in mayo-type sauce instead of straight up fresh slices of scallop which is what I was hoping for. Drinks are overpriced, miso soup was complimentary. They are serious about the wasting food thing. My friend left the zucchini and onion tempura behind and was seriously given the evil eye when the waitress asked if he was REALLY done. He felt bad enough to eat the zucchini and then proceed to hide the onion in a napkin for the rest of the time we were there. Will return and stick mainly to the nigiri, except for the caterpillar roll, that was just too delish. read more

Good sushi but avoid the nigiri when ordering all you can eat. Came here to get all you can eat sushi and they packed our nigiri with so much rice. I felt like I had 3 cups of rice by the time I was done eating. It was so much that we got full by eating 6 nigiri. The rest of the sushi we ordered was not even enjoyable to eat. We tried to take off some of the rice they put on there and charged us for it. I'm surprised at how bad this restaurant has gone down. read more

I went to this place one other time and it was pretty good. The only thing odd was they gave us hand rolls, which were kind of like sushi cones and told us they were traditional. I went along since I'm no expert, but I still don't think these are traditional in any way. Our next visit consisted of several fish pastes, one with the consistency of a sort of canned tuna patte. The very scarce whole peices of fish that were in our sushi varieties were very fishy- which is a huge indicator it's not fresh- like at all. This restaurant is clean, but very easily persuaded to cut corners. I think I'll stick to making it at home for a fraction of the price. read more

Sever was rude when I asked where an item might be on the list , she never confirmed what we ordered, and not to complain but where the miso soup at ? That stuff is bomb but We were never offered it. Ordered salmon sashimi. It was one of the best sashimi I have ever had (and I have had really really good ones from NYC). The salmon was fresh and it went down like butter, almost melted in my mouth. I also ordered shoyu ramen. This came with shrimp tempura so a bit different than what I am used to. However there were tons of veggies and it was yummy. Definitely recommend this place. read more

Cortaro sushi is the best. We have been going to this location since it opened. They are super friendly and the sushi is the best in Tucson. We drive 30 minutes just to go. This hands down best sushi in tucson. The customer service is great and the place is super clean.. what's different about the sushi vs other places is the consistency of each roll and fresh. I personally called in an order one day and was only 45 minutes late from picking up.. the manager / owner had them prepare a specific roll for me so it didn't get spoiled sitting out or whatever. They care and the food is awesome/ fresh and they are generous with all portions. Came here for dinner on a Friday night and was super hungry. Opted for the AYCE option less than $25. Was def. worth it. They let you pick appetizers like crab rangoon, tempura, amongst a variety of rolls and nigiri. Let me start out by saying that I am obsessed with sushi, and I have low standards and a strong stomach. I've tried just about everything I've passed in town, and Sushi Cortaro has been one of the best. Before we even ordered we were handed a bowl of Miso Soup and a beautiful crab salad. The wait staff was attentive but at points slightly doting (the only reason for the four instead of five- the last time I went in one girl just sort of stood be the edge of our table the whole time) The food was fantastic, not expensive at all (I'm confused by those parts of the review, I mean, it was about 22 bucks for to people last time), the decor and cleanliness was beautiful. I do agree that it was a bit too cold for my liking. The staff was friendly and the sushi chefs chatted with us amiably. We went to sushi cortaro tonight after we saw the reviews in yelp and we were pretty disappointed. This restaurant doesn't not deserve that high rating. The 2 stars was for the food only and we should only give 1 star to their service. ** 2 stars for the food We decided to go for all you can eat after reading the reviews. Unfortunately, the food was nothing impressive. We ordered gyoza and around 12 different sushi and rolls. The gyoza was those frozen pre-made one and the fish was just Okay for its price. * 1 star for service 1) we spent 2 hours waiting for the food in the restaurant and we only order 2 times for all you can eat. (6 items each) Basically, it took them 1 hour to prepare 6 items. it was NOT a busy night at all. 2) all 3 services are not professional at all. never check up on customers and we had to remind the girl 3 times to just get back our hot tea. 3) the same thing happen to the next table and those servers were so lost and did not know what to do. Again, $20 for all-you-can-eat service is an attractive deal but the service is just way below unacceptable. We could not recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

Not a lot to say. Visit on 11.15.17 Didn't get the typical sushi greeting. Service was ok but not as good as most. Sushi was very well done and fish cuts were fresh. Sitting at sushi bar the chefs didn't have the friendly entertaining quality that you usually expect. I would recommend this place as it's good food. A tiny bit more expensive than Seattle area sushi but still not bad prices. Go there and give it a try..I would go back. Didn't get the big Domo Arigato when leaving. All minor but fix those little things and this would be a solid 4. I wish there was a 10 point system oh well read more

My parents are in AZ visiting from CA we all came to stay in Tucson. After some research we decided to drive the 25 minutes to get some sushi here. It was well worth the drive! The food was yummy, and good quality. The most amazing part of this place was the staff. They were very kind and patient as well as attentive. My toddler was fussing over a sore throat, I think the server over hear me mention getting her some ice cream to soothe her. Anyway, she brought over a complimentary scoop of ice cream and it was beyond thoughtful and kind. Especially when she knew I had already planned to purchase some myself!
