This is my go-to take out place. I always get the Sushi Inn lunch special, with a substitution of California rolls (+$2). It comes with a soup, salad, a platter of tempura, dumplings, and sushi. The portions are fantastic, the flavour is great, and the service is attentive. I usually do take-out, and had asked for a delivery once (which was free, but don't forget to tip the guy!). I usually drive to my usual spot outside of Toronto. Found my new replacement. It was extremely fresh and extremely well cut. The salmon was sliced a little thicker than it should have been but I'm not complaining. I wish my Oyakodon came with more sauce though. The quality of the fish is 4/5 and the prep 5/5. Has been consistent over the years. A solid 4 out of 5, the prices are very reasonable. Everything I have ordered here is good. The Beef teriyaki with rice, the sushi rolls, soups, bacon wrapped asparagus and on. For better grade fish/Sashimi I would go to Asuka one street over. There are two tables near the windows that have a view on the street. Those are the place to sit when you are there. Otherwise, the place is very packed with tables near the walls and the bar. The sea food is great: both taste- and size wise. By ordering one dish, you will be full during the entire afternoon. The service could be better. They are so busy when it gets busy that they do not really want to help you sometimes. read more

I'm not sure why this place is not ranked better. It does an absolutely killer business so all of the fish is incredibly fresh. They make it very quickly and the atmosphere is decent, especially if you want a break from the normal pretentiousness of Yorkville. There's nothing as promising as the pungent smell of old grease in the fryer hard at work that warns one to lower their expectations of a Japanese restaurant. This is what greeted me as I entered Sushi Inn. My friend order a bento box, I ordered 2 a la carte items, a grilled hamachi (yellow tail) neck, and a grilled cod (gindara). Everything was in big portions, and looked appetizing. Unfortunately, both grill fish dishes tasted like they have stayed a little too long in the fridge. The usual fool proof combination of salt, grease and caramelization could not save the day for the expired fish. The cod was dry, although edible. I was not able to finish the hamachi neck because it smelled like the fish market at day's end. My friend is a less demanding eater and he chowed down the entire content of the bento box in record time, and smiled a smile of complete satiation. So averaging out the scores between how my friend and I would have each rated Sushi Inn - 2 stars. read more

This is my favourite sushi restaurant in downtown. Food is much above average for a Toronto sushi joint. The service is very fast and even though I've been here 30+ times in last 3 years I don't remember a single time that my order would be messed up. They also have a pretty big delivery range for downtown area, and even if you are slightly outside the area they will still deliver for a $2 surcharge. My only problem is high noise level at the upper floor during peak hours. If you go downstairs it's usually quieter. read more

I have been coming to this place for more than a year now. It's pretty consistent with service, quality and price. Once or twice the food was not fresh but not bad for takeout. Not a fan of eating in since the tables are so cramped and close together. It's always packed which means good turn over for fresh sea food. Yorkville crowd without the Yorkville prices. Once they messed up my take out order but quickly compensated me with a free dish for my next order. This is my go to place whenever I want good but cheap sushi that isn't all you can eat. Busted for using toxic escolar in place of White tuna! I never get stomach ache -- till I had one piece of 'White Tuna' here (part of my sushi / sashimi combo. I thought maybe I ate too fast, then happened to catch Dr Oz's fake food the next day, saying one trick for sushi places is to switch white tun for similar-looking but naturally-toxic Escolar! Which is banned in many countries BTW, but not Canada. I first called Toronto Public Health, got big runaround from incompetent staff, then eventually sent me to CFIA Feds, they sent me back to TPH. TPH reported the restaurant told the 2 fish are the same thing, different names -- total lie of course. Back to CFIA, weeks later now they just called me and confirmed that SI were indeed selling Escolar. DO NOT TRUST THIS RESTAURANT. Yes this is my attempt to see justice for being served poisonous fish -- actually what they have done is fraud per CFIA but I can't be bothered to pursue. PS, waiter was totally 'blah' as well. read more

The food here is fine. Nothing to write home about, nothing horrible either. Perfectly passable. The menu is quite varied, so it's good for a group so everyone can find something they like. Service, though, is horrible. Staff is neglectful at best, rude at worst. Having to ask multiple times for water / tea / napkins / etc. is the staple of my very visit. Unfortunately work brings me here often, so I speak from many sample-points. Staff has demonstrated a short attitude (and even rolled their eyes!) and me or my team often!! It is also common to get the wrong order, and then have to wait for 20+ minutes to get your correct order. In short, if you are craving sushi in Yorkville, I recommend you go to Wow Sushi (a couple of blocks south-east on Charles Street). Sushi Inn is not great. read more

I have been going to Sushi Inn for YEARS! Only once did I get a questionable meal and that was quickly rectified by "John" our Host. I prefer to sit in a booth on the top floor, that way if you order anything hot it gets to you hot and doesn't have to travel downstairs. Usually order the Spider Roll with crunchy crab as an opener to more and more and more along with beer and saki. I would luv for them to have a table or two that are private to minimize on noise but space is at a premium in this busy restaurant. I really wanted to like this place. I've been to Sushi Inn three times in the past few months hoping it would get better. It didn't. The ventilation is poor and I've left after each visit smelling like a deep fryer. The sushi is so/so, nothing to get excited about. Chunks of Tuna sat frozen next to the artificial crab. First time here tonight. There were about 6 of us dinning and they only gave us 3 full menus and 3 special menus... not sure why, but we made do and took turns. When the server asked us for drinks we were deciding on which white wine to get while the others were ordering... we all felt rushed and got the sense the waiter was annoyed with us. When we ordered our drinks all together we decided we were ready to place our food order at the same time and the server quickly grabbed the menus from us like he was in some kind of rush. Service started and food was decent, service then got decent because different employees were clearing the table - fine, but little to zero interaction. I came here with my friends for lunch a few weeks ago and was kinda let down. It was a bit pricey for what they offer and it didn't feel worth it. I ordered the katsudon which is basically pork cutlets over rice and it was average at best. The katsu was soggy and paired with the rice it didn't taste like anything special. I love Sushi Inn. It's tidy and organised with plenty of seating; the prices are affordable (especially for the area); and I've been impressed with the selection of food. In particular, this is a GREAT spot for vegetarian options; at most Japanese restaurants I have to pass up the udon noodle soup because it has fish or chicken or something in it, but here they have several vegan options, including an absolutely lovely shiitake mushroom udon soup. Used to be my favourite place to stop and eat when I found myself downtown. Food is consistent, but portions are smaller and this place is not reasonable anymore!! Cheap and cheerful suddenly doesn't apply anymore. Sit upstairs if you go. Downstairs, the booths are white vinyl and way so in need of scrubbing!! I had a big bento box and my partner had sashimi.
