I used to love this place years ago, it was my go to sushi spot in Toronto. Not sure what happened, if they changed owners or stopped paying attention, it's lost quality and attentiveness it had before. I just came in and tried the red tuna and mackerel sashimi, it was so tough to eat and it stunk! It smelled so old and fishy, which means it's not fresh. Very good for its price! I came with a friend and we couldn't even finish it all. Gyoza was perfectly deep fried and delicious filling. Fish was fresh and tasty. The red dragon roll was huge and had lots of filling inside. Spicy salmon roll was also very tasty. Only complaint I have is that there's too much rice in the nigiri. Woof! Everything was very bland and what wasn't bland was covered in a sweet sauce. The chicken gyoza had me excited because I don't eat pork but it was disappointing. The spicy tuna roll was dripping in a sweet orange sauce. Even the cucumber avocado roll was sweet and unpleasant. Perhaps they cook the rice in something. It wasn't just me, my girlfriend and youngest child were unimpressed as well. The servers were very nice but they forgot to bring our sake entirely. They were quick to remove it from our bill once we pointed out they'd missed it. Such nice people that I wish I could recommend the restaurant. read more

I was walking on Eglinton St W when I passed by Zuki Japanese restaurant. I was feeling hungry so I stepped in and ordered the double spicy salmon rolls for takeout. We visited Zuki on a Saturday evening, and the place was packed with patrons and take out orders. Expect a wait unless you get lucky since they don't take reservations past 6PM on weekends; their very limited number of tables get full really easily. We ordered their large maki tray along with a B.C. roll. They were very backlogged on orders, so we ended up waiting for a whopping 50 minutes before the first rolls came out. They tried their best to keep us accomodated, by refilling our tea and giving us complimentary miso soup. We were getting a bit restless, but when the rolls started coming out I realised that the wait was definitely worth it. Both their regular and special rolls were very large and fresh, and I enjoyed every bite of them. There was a good variety of everything in the maki tray: plenty of veggies, tempura, and fish. It was enough to fill us all to the brim, at an extremely affordable price! They even changed our B.C. roll order to a custom special roll that had salmon skin in it as a token for waiting so long, which I really appreciated. What really stuck out to us, however, was their spicy mayo. It it was completely unlike any other sushi restaurant's spicy mayo, where they mix mayo with a bit of sriracha sauce. This one was very orange and very sweet. It was clear that they had their own recipe for it, and it was very satisfying to chow down on. We even asked for a few extra trays of spicy mayo to dip our sushi in; it was that good! My experience with Zuki was very positive, due to their great service, great value, and great taste. If we ever moved away from Toronto, this will be the first restaurant that we miss. Highly recommend. First review in 2019: Based on great reviews on Yelp, my youngest son and I picked this restaurant to try today. We got there around 6:50 pm and the restaurant was about 40% full.  There were many selections from the menu. I ordered the 6pcs sushi & 6pcs sashimi and 8pcs spicy crab roll for $15.95 from the combination menu.  My 15 years old son, who loves sushi, ordered Crunch Roll, Kamikaze Roll, and California Crunch Roll. Our food came out within 7 - 10 minutes.  I enjoyed the freshly cut sashimi. They melted like butter in my mouth.  I love the salmon and hamachi (yellowtail) the most since they are extremely fresh and flavorful.  The cut rolls were very tasty and we both very full at the end. My son gave this restaurant 5 stars.  I gave it 10 stars (if I can) for the quality and value. We definitely will come back monthly, if not weekly. This is the best sushi restaurant that we found so far in Toronto. We highly recommend it!! read more

Fresh out of the box..I literally seen the Salmon get pulled out of an ice box and cut and plated. This place is a gem for its value and quality. They are generous in their portions and the sushi masters know exactly what they are doing. I would reccomend the Chicago dynamite roll. It was out of this world. If you get a chance to be seated there are 3 booths with great decor. Request those as you will feel a bit more privacy. I am definately heading back for my next sushi craving. Sushi combo ($15.95 - 6pcs sushi & 6pcs sashimi and spicy salmon roll) was nice and generous. Selection of Maki sushi was pretty good. Shrimp tempura was nice and crunchy. The bad: ---------- Some of the cuts of fish were not the best, or not the freshest. The sushi rice was too sweet. The sauce on the spicy salmon was too sweet. We were here on a late Tuesday night, and when we got there it wasn't very busy at all. The value is great, for approx. $16 you can get a big sushi combo and the portions are huge! All of us struggled to finish our combos. The sashimi were very thick slices and there was a variety of fish. The restaurant started to get more busy when it was almost closing time that night. Definitely one of my favourite sushi spots. It's become an annual tradition to come here. It is not an ayce sushi place. It's a small spot located in mid town and it can be hard to find. They have no parking lot but you can park on the streets in the neighborhood. The atmosphere of this place is nicely dimmed with wooden decor. It's a small restaurant about 7 tables and a sushi bar area. Everything is reasonably priced and the portions and sushi pieces are huge (especially the sashimi). I always go for the sushi zuki party boat combo and I think it's the perfect portions for two. It had 34 pieces of both sushi and sashimi. I would definitely recommend this place. The three stars are for price and food. The sashimi is good and fresh and everything is pretty cheap for the quality you get. We got DC01 and DC02 - 1$ extra if you want all salmon. Got the tempura udon, smell burnt and consisted mainly of veg and little udon. Bulgogi donburi was pretty good. Oshinko and cucumber roll were good, 8 pcs for 1.95. Can't go wrong with that! CONS The udon and the donburi are listed under Main Dishes. Which states that every main dish comes with miso soup and salad. We only got 2 salad and 1 soup. When asked where our other soup is, she said because the udon has soup already it doesn't come with miso soup . That's the stupidest thing of life. I told her in the menu it says it comes with it. She just shrugged and said no and walked away. Okay...but whatever . The 1 miso we got was incredibly salty! We got 4 water and one cup had some goopy yellow thing in it. And one had goopy thing at the bottom. 20minute into the meal the waitresses were telling eachother they ran out of miso soup. Is this maybe why I didn't get mine...hmmm. This is the only sushi spot in this hood that I'm aware of, and it's great! It opened very recently, and they still have some great "grand opening" prices. I got a lunch bento box for about $12, with six spicy salmon rolls, six pieces of assorted sushi, miso soup, and Japanese style salad. Really cheap, so I was a bit sceptical of how the quality would be, but it was delicious and fresh. I ordered it to go, and the server brought me a cup of green tea while I waited. Good sushi at great prices! The sushi is well made and prepared with good quality ingredients. The restaurant has a cozy atmosphere and the staff are friendly, polite, and attentive. My only criticism is that as I have said before, the sushi is good but I wouldn't go as far as saying it's great. But with the bargain prices you're paying for, you will definitely get your moneys worth. Went here on a holiday. Small sushi restaurant with about 30 or so seats. Biggest seating is about 3-4 people. Service was amazing and the food was way beyond my expectations. Got a medium party tray and managed to feed 3+ adults with it. The deep fried rolls were extremely fresh and not soggy at all. Even managed to bring some home for left overs and was still good the next day. Food is priced amazingly well. By far the cheapest place I've been to in Toronto. This restaurant is the biggest gem in the entire neighbourhood. We've been regulars for years and try to pick up something once a week or so now that it's pick up only during the lock-down. Although there have been a couple order mishaps, I can honestly say that I am blown away by how fresh and perfect the food is EVERY time! I wish they offered a delivery service but I know that's expensive for most restaurants. If you haven't tried it and are in the mood for Japanese, give it a try. You will not be disappointed! This sushi joint is one of the few in the area which probably explains why it's always packed. We came for lunch during peak hours which was our mistake as the service was extremely slow. We were left standing by the door for a good fifteen minutes. Once finally seated, the server was incredibly apologetic and we made our orders. We got three different rolls, sushi pizza, seaweed salad and two miso soups. The miso soup was 95 cents, and incredibly salty. The sushi pizza was by far the best of the meal. The rice was crispy and topped generously with crab meat. The sushi rolls were well seasoned and generously priced. The spicy salmon roll was only $3.95, salmon avocado roll for $4.50 and the Philadelphia roll for $4.50. Overall, very filling meal for a great price if you don't mind the wait. Be sure you have time to spare or just come during off peak hours. They do take out/pick up orders which seem to be quite popular. Not surprising given the price point. Had the pleasure of going to this sushi joint, although the area around is pretty dingy and it's tucked away in a corner, this place definitely surprised me to say the least. The service was outstanding and our server gave us a couple suggestions that were her favourite (beef and kimchi roll). The decor was your standard sushi spot settting with the open kitchen concept with the chefs carving away on the fish. We ordered spicy salmon roll, spicy crab roll, two orders of spicy beef and kimchi roll and finally an order of their standard sushi which came in pieces of 8 and have surf clam, salmon, tuna etc. The price was really great averaging about $5 per roll and each order came in a set of 8 pcs! I loved their presentation of the sushi on a wooden board drizzled with their house spicy mayo. Of all the sushi spots I usually go to, this joint has definitely worked its way up to the top 5. I've lived in this neighbourhood for my whole life and this is the first time I have seen a sushi restaurant pre-bathurst. I must say, I am very happy about this. You can only eat Jamaican, Portuguese and Chinese food for so long before you just need to be chin deep in seaweed and sushi rolls. The prices here are very low compared to most of the sushi places I've been to, however the quality is still great. The interior is quite appealing, compared to a lot of restaurants along e-west. Overall, at first glance we were pleased. My friend and I got seaweed salad, miso soup, the santa monica roll, and the black dragon roll. We were satisfied with everything. This is so far my most favourite Sushi place in Toronto. Price is very affordable and service is really great. Me and my friend visited the restaurant many times but food quality and service have been always the same, which is excellent! They do have other items on their menu beside Sushi and Sashimi. Location is also good, just near Eglinton ave east and Dufferin. Good for small groups since restaurant is relatively small. If you like better, bigger tables at the back for 3-4 people, it is better to make a reservation beforehand. There are many street parking options in front of the restaurant.
