Great service, every time I've been they've been cheerful. Orders do sometimes get lost if you order lots of food, or the wrong order may be brought, but that's understandable due to the nature of the restaurant. For the price it's a great deal and you get to eat all the Sushi you want. Some specialty items can only be ordered on the weekends. Like some tuna items. I hadn't been to this Sushi Kan location in a few years. Came here with boyfriend and family for someone's birthday yesterday (Wednesday) around 5pm. It was quiet. Lots of empty boots and tables. The service was quick and the waitress friendly. Maybe cause it was quiet? Either way, it was great. Sushi Kan on Baseline always had much slower service than this, even when not busy. The salmon sashimi was fresh and tasted really good. We really enjoyed it. The spicy rolls were not spicy at all, but still enjoyable. The only thing I found out of place were the televisions. They were playing news and sports, which I found a bit strange. I didn't see anyone watching so I really don't know why they are there in the first, other than just to act as a distraction. Would return to this location if I was in the area again, otherwise it's a bit out of the way for me. Definitely a recommend for others looking for sushi in that area though! read more

This used to my favourite all you can eat sushi restaurant, it has the best atmosphere out of them all. Then it stopped serving mackerel sashimi and I started going to Fuji Sushi and Ken's Sushi. The servers are nice and friendly, but service here is slower than the rest. Orders not showing up is also more common. All of this is probably because it's always busier. If my friends and I are in the area, we will still visit for convenience sake, it's still a good place. read more

Awesome sushi! When going for lunch, very good prices too. The extra selections at dinner aren't really worth it for me (I don't go for sushi to eat stir fry). Sometimes the service can be a little slow, but the waitresses are always very helpful and polite when you get their attention. Went there yesterday for dinner with the family for the first time and was slightly disappointed to find out they had NO tuna in the menu.... of all things!!!! Tuna is my favorite and honestly of the many Sushi places i've been too, this is the first i've encountered that does not have it. Now, with that said, there is a section on the bottom of "Special" items that does contain tuna, but of the 4 items in that box your only allow 1 order of each per table, one time order only......................................so much for all you can eat sushi!!! We hadn't noticed the restriction and had in one order requested 2 of the 4 items on the same paper and the server came to break the news that we had to remove one of the two........suuuuuuuuuper disappointing! Also, most of the beef products ordered we found to be chewy and over cooked. On another note the service was good and quick, servers were nice. There are way to many Sushi places in Ottawa to settle for this one sad to say, unless its for convenience in location i would suggest driving the extra way to a place that's a bit better. read more

The food is great, it's cheap and the menu is varied, you definitely get your money's worth. The service is kind of hit and miss, the waiters are often too busy to come to the table. You are sure to get something you didn't order or some of what you order goes missing, but if it's not too busy it doesn't happen that much. Still really worth it for the food and price though! As average as AYCE comes, but still better than no AYCE sushi at all. This location is substantially cleaner and "nicer" than the one in Merivale. (Since I tend to speculate on overall restaurant hygiene in terms of bathroom cleanliness, I shall not be returning to the Merivale location.) Worst service ever. With customer service like this I will never be back. They completely forgot about our table it took over 20 minutes for them to pick up our order and an additional 20 minutes to get our food. My dad wanted ginger and he had to remind them 3 times to get it. When I went to talk to the manager she said that it was busy and it was to be expected. I understand that it was busy, however while we were completely forgotten, a table with over 8 people seemed to be getting more than enough attention. I have been to many busy restaurants before and have enough patience to understand, however she kept making excuses saying it was our fault for ordering food that required to be cooked, or us not flagging the servers down. Then another worker told me that McDonalds takes 20 minutes when they're busy and we should have been like the other customers and just dealt with it. They made it out that I was the unruly one, even when they gave me nothing but attitude. Worst customer service. Do not go here. read more

I decided to rewrite this review as I visited this place again a few times in the last months and I noticed an improvement on both food quality and service. I would say it's still middle of the road and doesn't even come close to Fuji SUSHI or TEN Sushi... But it's acceptable and decent. Rolls are OK. My favourite so far is Maki rolls with grilles salmon. I am not convinced about the way they cut the sashimi... Way too thick!! Also they use too much rice in the rolls and their rice seem to be of a different quality almost overcooked. The other items on the menu such as Chinese noodles or Asian mixed items are average. My advice.. Go here for lunch if you're looking for something inexpensive and don't want fast food. At the end this is still much better than any fast food out here. read more

I've been going here every other week for about a year and I love it. The sushi is consistent and fresh and the service is polite and fast. Of course, during rushes that may change a little but that's only to be expected. I'm very paranoid about sushi so I always come here because it's always clean and I've only ever had good experiences with this restaurant. I decided to spoil myself and order in some sushi Friday night - I often pick it up from a local place but they don't offer delivery so I decided to give Sushi Kan a try. I ordered a few favourites of mine - sweet potato rolls and mango +shrimp tempura and decided to try a new roll; however I didn't read the description fully and realized once I got it that it was topped with fish so I couldn't eat it as I have an intolerance to fish. That is my bad - and a real shame because it definitely was the best roll (I tried one after scrapping off the toppings, which I had no idea was fish until I went back and read the description otherwise you couldn't tell). I ordered a wonton soup as I was craving soup and the wontons were delicious but the soup broth tasted more like a miso soup which I don't like. I also ordered spring rolls and they had a funky weird taste to them. The sushi didn't taste fresh and really I didn't end up eating most of the food I got. Free delivery over $20 so I was super excited and hopeful but I should just stick to the other place I know and love as this place seriously disappointed me. read more

Looked promising at first. Sat down, placed a small order of 4 different kinds of sushi. First roll took 5min to come. It was very good. I waited for the other rolls. A waitress came by and asked if I wanted to order anything else. I explained I was already waiting on the other rolls. This took 30 additional minutes to get the other 3 rolls I had originally ordered. 2 rolls were exactly the same. I inquired about the order as they gave me two of the same rolls. The waitress had no idea what I was talking about. I explained that my order contained different kinds of sushi. And they gave me 2 exact same rolls out of 4. She did not seem to understand. Placed a second order. Again for all different kinds of sushi. Again waiting a long time and again received what looked to be 3 identical rolls. Inquired about the rolls and the waitress could not tell the difference between them. After looking confused and unable to answer after several minutes, she pointed out and said "this one avocado, this one shrimp, this one shrimp". As I'm eating now the delayed order and still missing other kinds of sushi ordered, 3 waitresses came by in a 3 minute time laps and asked if I wanted to order anything else as it was "last call" 45min before closing. Placed one last order for desert and received two additional sushi rolls and a fried banana... Eat the banana and left to go pay... As I'm paying, I'm told sushi kan does not was good and proceeded to charge me $4 extra on the receipt. Service was horrible, wait time was horrible and as far as I can tell, no matter what you order you'll get what they'll give you. NEVER AGAIN. read more

By far the absolute worst food experience in Ottawa. My gf and I sat at our table at 6:00 pm and our order was taken at 6:15 pm. At 6:35 pm, I notcied what appeared to be our order being delivered to another table. One of the waitresses passed by our table and I asked if our food was being delivered to another table. She didn't understand the nature of my question and tried to take my order for a 2nd time. More food kept going to a table close to ours and the guests at the other table advised that they never ordered this food and the waitresses were desperately trying to pawn the food off at any table that would take it. Ultimately, our food was never delivered and after sitting at an empty table for 45 mins we departed. A terrible experience that will never be duplicated. If there was a rating below one star, this place would have merited it. read more

I'm normally pretty easy to please and the food here did not disappoint, neither did the wait staff who were very friendly and helpful. They had to be helpful because the kitchen staff lost our orders twice. When we followed up - via the helpful wait staff - most of the order appeared, we asked about the rest of the order the waitress said that we had reached our "cap"; apparently they are much more diligent counting orders than filling them. It was our third order chit for three people, but the only reason we sent a third was because part of the first and much of the second order never arrived. As mentioned in other reviews the "all you can eat" dinner - which does have a cap, interestingly - came to over $80 for three of us, which would be fine if the service were as expected. However, we were left three times waiting for a very long time, which gave us time to ponder why there were so many empty tables on a Friday evening. Our experience seemed to answer that question. I went there once with my friends and I've realized they put powder on their food so you can get full easily! In my case I was very hungry so I ate a lot and after my meal I started having the worst headache of my entire life! I felt like I was drugged and it was the worst feeling~ I just realized it was because of the shrimp tempura I kept eating.. Don't eat a lot of fried stuff.. I tried bringing fried food with me at home by hiding it in a ziplock bag I brought with me, and as the food start to get cold the texture becomes wobbly and you can see the powder starting to peel off. It was so gross! I don't know if it's like that in all Chinese buffets but I will NEVER step back there again. I don't recommend it at all! Also the workers were pretty quiet And our server hasn't said a single word since she seated us. Even the cashier, he just showed us the price and we paid. read more

Okay... what are these other reviews talking about?!? I went to this restaurant solely off the reviews - which were generally pretty good. First of all, maybe I'm a sushi snob, but they do not have iPad ordering, it's pen and paper and many of the sushi rolls don't tell you what's in them. It's a guessing game. This restaurant is in an old Denny's, which is exactly what it looks like. The won ton soup had no noodles and was lukewarm white and cloudy. Gross. The coconut shrimp were ok, at least fresh. The grilled shrimp come with heads (read: EYES!) attached. The rolls are again lukewarm with an odd after taste. Do not get the "beef" with broccoli as it's surely not beef. Even the egg roll tasted sort of sewery. We didn't finish our meal but to avoid being charged, we paid ($57 for two people) and immediately left. The wait staff is very nice, but not worth going back for the horrible food. Definitely left feeling sick. 168 sushi has this place beat anyway. read more
