Lunch Bento with tonkatsu and sake sashimi
    Kathleen P.

The $16 lunch bento price was hard not to pass up on. It definitely filled me up, but my tonkatsu was on the dryer side. I ended up still eating everything though, so it was good enough lol! The salmon sashimi was fresh and my favorite part was the salad. It came with a light vinaigrette dressing. This spot is cute and cozy. I'd come back to try other sushi dishes.

Located in downtown Millbrae and unassuming from the outside, but fish freshness inside! Came here for a weekday dinner so it wasn't crowded and the servers were very polite. Miso soup was good but no tofu, and salad could've used more dressing. The Negitoro (fatty tuna, green onion) roll and there was wasabi inside, I enjoyed this. The Deluxe Sushi which included 8 pieces total - 2 pc tuna, yellowtail, halibut, salmon, shrimp, salmon roe, egg/tamago. The egg had a hint of sweetness. The yellowtail sashimi entree came with 10 pieces and soup & salad. Each piece of fish was fresh and delicious! I left feeling satisfied with, would come again to try their other dishes and specials.

The sushi here definitely emphasized quality over quantity. The freshness and flavor of the fish was so good, even the soft shell crab was a burst of flavor. We enjoyed the simplicity of the rolls. Other sushi places have over packed rolls where you can't really taste the individual flavors. This place seemed to value the ingredients. The servers were very polite and checked in frequently. The outside is very unassuming, we've passed by it many times but only tried it just now. Once you enter it has a very authentic Japanese aesthetic. We found it very cute and pleasant. (For 21+ the plum wine is a must try)

This spot is a modest Japanese joint in downtown Millbrae. I've had takeout a few times in the past year and am always satisfied with the quality of sushi! Today, I ordered takeout again! I really appreciate that for takeout items, they include a tamper sticker when they package everything. It provides some reassurance. I ordered the Deluxe Sushi and the Chicken Katsu today. The Deluxe sushi came with 10 pieces of sushi variety (i.e. salmon, tamago, tuna, shrimp, roe, etc). The fish was fresh and juicy. A check for quality! As for the the chicken katsu, I was pleasantly surprised. My past experience with chicken katsu hadn't been a pleasant one. It was usually dry and overly coated. However, this chicken katsu was tender and had a nice outer crunch. Perfectly cooked! In addition, the precut oranges were sweet and nice touch! Overall, the food is quite good in terms of quality. However, the price is a little steep for the amount of food. My partner and I ordered two different entrees, but still felt hungry afterward! Despite that, it's still definitely worth trying to support a local business!

Their raw food (sushi and sashimi) is great. The fish is really fresh. But the cooked food such as gyu tongue is just so-so.

The place itself is homey, cozy, and feels like a family run place which it is -- apparently the owner used to be a chef for a former Japanese ambassador! The dishes, while *almost* kaiseki style, runs more homey too -- you will find simpler family dishes you can choose as mains like miso cod, tempura or chicken wing. Same with the drinks. There are nice sake and shochu flights, but not a specific pairing, and the selection is more mainstream (but still way more premium than a regular Japanese restaurant!) The waitstaff are all very polite and well trained, maybe not at the higher end (like starred restaurants), but definitely the best in the area. The set menu allows for 2 choices: your main and your starch. They are seasonal so you might not be able to get the same yummy thing as previous visits, but they really utilize seasonal produce well -- on a recent visit, the corn was simply phenomenal. Dessert, is à la carte, and I never have the appetite for it by the end of the meal. Honestly, the portions are rather huge, unless you're a hungry teenager or a large eater, it'll definitely be more than enough food per person. They provide to-go boxes if you need. It's definitely an elevated date night kind of place, and definitely make reservations via text! They are super responsive.

I came here with a small group of coworker for Happy Hour but unfortunately they don't start at 4:30pm on Friday so we were given their regular menu. Since I'm always looking for protein, I decided on the Happy Dinner Box $18.99 -- even though this is a pretty basic bento, you do get 3 items and that's a pretty good deal for our current economy. I chose beef teriyaki, chicken katsu and salmon. Box comes with salad, rice and miso soup. Taste was standard. Service was nice. Wait for food was about 20 minutes. I also tried the Dinosaur Roll $17.99 which is spicy scallop, avocado, yellow fish, jalapeño, and black tobiko. Although the roll was small, I appreciated that they didn't use too much rice. There were quite a few patrons dining on a Friday night so if you're looking for a convenient Japanese restaurant, that isn't necessarily authentic but still a good value, with ample nearby parking in the adjacent public lot, you might wanna visit Naked Fish. It seemed there was only one person who was the hostess, taking orders, and delivering the food. I give her mad props. With the dinner rush she was all over it. I placed my order for to go, she was super helpful, gave me her recommendations, and she had a smile on her face with everyone she encountered. This place has seemed to have gotten an elevated, more modern face lift/ renovation compared to the restaurant that used to be here. I was surprised that they didn't have standard sushi rolls that I'm usually accustomed to, but from the rolls that I've tried here... change is good. I ordered: 1. Corn tempura: First time seeing this, I love both corn and tempura. Had to see what it was about. It was perfection. Now it makes me wonder why this has never been done. 2. California roll: Standard staple and was good. 3. Warriors roll: It's an interesting combo, all items that I like.. first bite you're hit with a flavor explosion. At times I felt I couldn't taste the shrimp tempura, but the crunch from the crunchy onion ties it all together. 4. Beef steak: She recommended me to try this first before trying the daily special or short rib. She did not disappoint with this recommendation. The beef was so tender and flavorful. Overall, a great experience. I will definitely be back for more. I forgot to take pictures, because we inhaled the food so fast.

Upon entering the restaurant, it is a small space. There were two hostess/waitresses going around, but they were more focused on the customers already dining in so we were standing there for about 10 minutes before anyone noticed us. And honestly, they only realized we were there when a family of 6 came in after us. For some reason, that family of 6 was seated before we were. I guess they didn't have enough small tables so we ended up sitting at the counter near the bathroom. Here's what we got: - Chashu ramen (for me) - Dragon roll (to share) - Tempura udon (his) - Lion king roll (to share) Zach and I both got noodle dishes and shared the two rolls. Our noodles came first and then the rolls. The ramen was pretty standard and tasted fine. We also felt that the bowls were fairly small. The lion king roll though, we had to send it back because the salmon on top was only seared and I was 3 months pregnant at the time. My husband informed one of the waitresses that we needed a fully cooked Lion King roll. She took that away and a new (?) one was brought out about 10 minutes later. Between the two rolls, the dragon roll tasted better in freshness. Would I jump at the chance to come back here? Probably not. The service wasn't off to a good start and the food was just okay.
