I was excited to come back here on a quieter weekday night to avoid slower service, and to try their actual sushi versus just getting the bento box. Unfortunately, even though there weren't that many people - the service still feels uncomfortable because it's like the staff kinda ignores you because they're busy but then they also kinda check up on you and you're just left wondering. (this happens when trying to order and also when trying to pay ) And really unfortunately, the food wasn't as good by any standard as it was in the past. I'm not sure if it was a fluke, but the bento box (katsu, chicken katsu, and especially the chicken teriyaki) didn't hit that hard :( The Agedashi dōfu was definitely not great but tried it bc it's one of my favorites. We also got the Bashamichi special roll and the double Hamachi roll - which were alright too. (The wasabi here is on the weak side, but this doesn't affect the rating.) No--you're not going into La Quinta. Right next door you can find Bashamichi. What really got me in the Yelp pics was the Chef's Choice nigiri which what I ultimately ended up ordering. I threw a Lion King roll--roar and an agedashi tofu appetizer as well. Great little sushi place that has just enough innovation in the rolls to keep things interesting. The staff is made up of Cantonese Chinese speakers, so they instantly warmed up to me as one of their own. The place is simple with a dark, romantic ambiance to give locals a date night place with reliable delivery. I can't wait to go back to Bashamichi for another round of sushi. read more

Omakase 2026 for the win! Want reasonable Omakese? Here is your place. It has everything you need: presentation, fresh fish, friendly service, and you don't need a reservation! Parking is below the hotel where this restaurant is located. The Omakese has some great finds, such as the back of the fish as well as the body. Amaebi fish head soup with crab, some fresh toro, some hamachi belly, and other sushi treasures. Their Omakese changes all the time, so you never know what you'll get. I absolutely love their ankimo when they have it, and I feel their ankimo is one of the best tasting in the Bay Area. Definitely recommend this place over and over again! read more

Bashamichi is our go-to spot for holidays when we aren't hosting at home. We've visited on Thanksgiving, and this year, Christmas, and it's not only convenient that they are open, but also delicious! Service is always quick and the restaurant has never been too crowded or noisy (but acknowledging that we do tend to go on holidays). We always get the Bashamichi Roll, a bento box, and fresh sashimi. Sometimes we do agedashi tofu and mixed tempura as well. Their sashimi is always so fresh and they give beautiful cuts - our favorites are the walu and salmon. Both the salmon and beef teriyaki are cooked well and the bento box is a great value. Agedashi tofu and mixed tempura are reliable. The Bashamichi Roll is a must! Sometimes we also order the Bashamichi Set which comes with nigiri, california roll, and sashimi. This set is such a great deal and we've never been disappointed by the nigiri selection. They also seem to have a private room in the back that can fit 8-10 people. Overall, Bashamichi is reliable and affordable. We've been visiting for a couple years now and will definitely continue to do so! read more

Interesting location at the La Quinta and almost obscure entry way. I've driven on this street a million times and only discovered the restaurant today from searching on yelp. Street parking is available. This is your typical Japanese bento box / sushi rolls place run by Chinese people. For $23 a bento box with three items, it offers a variety of options including salmon, saba, teriyaki / fried meat, sashimi. Most food items tasted fine but not memorable - while others such as the sukiyaki beef and katsu could use better quality meat and more tenderizing. The table and serving ware were cleaner and more organized than most other Japanese bento restaurants I've been to. +1 star for the cleanliness and the trendy wallpaper. read more

Food overall is ~4.5 stars and parents enjoyed it a lot, dad doesn't always compliment stuff, we typically like bentos. So no sashimi comments here. Round up for overall everything being reasonable, solid and good. Food quality: Bentos generally I care if the meet is overcooked, tough, dry, and I look at tempura quality cause if it's below a certain point I regret ordering it. Tempura 5.5/5 - actually flaky, crispy, light, they give you a lot, this is something I enjoy and it isn't easy to please me persay but I'm not at snob levels yet, I eat whatever is given for the most part haha Beef teriyaki 5/5 - as good as it gets without being actual high tier meat and that is not the standard for this place. Sauce is good, and meat done well. Not pictured but sampled a piece Salmon Teriyaki 4.5/5 - solid not much to say, soft, not overdone, if anything could be a little more so it could have some grill/crisp factor on the outer side but it's flaky and soft so, I don't think anyone would be disappointed. Chicken 3.6/5 - seemed slightly softer than I'm used to so maybe they blanched it but it was fine. Not undercooked, sauce was necessary imo but I have higher threshold for salt and savory things than most people. Miso was good, dressing on salad was actually something I like a lot, it's the sweet savory white dressing that I speculate might be diluted kewpie and something else but I don't know. Dressing is amongst the top japanese dressings, only the best ginger ones are better imo - subjective since this is a cheap dressing I feel like but I like it. read more

I have to say, the 4 slices of sashimi were nice and thick and tasted oh so fresh! The salmon was good and the white tuna buttery and melted in your mouth! Why the low rating? The beef teriyaki was tough and lukewarm. We were the only diners in the restaurant so I don't think it sat for a bit. Also, the salad was a bit tasteless. Tasted more like thousand island on lettuce. The service was good, the guy was nice about refilling our tea. The ambiance was chill since we were the only ones dining for lunch on a Wednesday afternoon. I think I'll try it again because I really liked the sashimi. read more

Food is actually pretty good here and their bento box lunch is a hit of a deal. 3 items is about $24ish and there's no +$1 or +$2 for premium items on the list like some other places do. It's located within a hotel block and parking is not too bad on El Camino. Their fish is fresh and there's an abundance of seating for a typical sushi restaurant. Con is that food takes forever to come out. The first time we came here was as a party of 8. Yes that's a pretty big party but mind you, there were only 4 other people in the entire restaurant. Our food took 40 minutes to come out! We literally had to go up to the counter to ask what happened. But all the food was suddenly ready so we sat back down. We were also not the only party that was frustrated. There was a couple that got up and just left after the brutal wait. If you're in for a treat, just prepare for a wait. read more

Such a GEM!! This place is hidden on the first floor of the La Quinta, and apparently you can guest park in their parking lot. Despite that, it was packed during weekend dinner! Fresh fish, delicious rolls, and perfectly fried tempura! This restaurant is sort of hidden. It's attached to a motel, not in a super busy part of town. There's street parking outside but I believe you can also park in the motel's parking lot. The restaurant space is long and narrow, but there is a bar with seating and ample seating for small and big parties. The staff were quite busy the Friday night we were there but the food came out promptly after we ordered. Everything we had was delicious. The mix tempura was a great portion size for the price and nicely fried. We had the Bashamichi Roll, Sunrise Roll, and Lion King Roll (all the recommended special rolls). The rolls were great - not too much rice and each bite was actually unique its own ways. Sometimes I feel like rolls can just taste all the same but this wasn't the case. read more

The sushi here was okay overall. I tried the Treasure Box and the tempura. Surprisingly, I really enjoyed the tempura--it had just the right texture and was cooked perfectly. As for the Treasure Box, I found it a bit disappointing, especially the toro, which didn't quite meet my expectations. That said, one of the white fish pieces stood out--it tasted great and had a spot-on texture. Would I come back? Probably not. I get the sense that a lot of people come here for the rolls, but since I'm not a fan of rolls, it just wasn't the place for me. read more

Also ordered a side of the spicy tuna roll. I do think this is a relatively standard roll and it didn't taste right. Couldn't taste the tuna, it was extremely mushy and watery, and just felt like eating the sauce with a scoop of fish. My cousin recommended this place, so we ordered take out (as we had a shorter timeline for when we could eat). She said it was "best sushi in the Bay". I can't say that I've had enough to make any claims, but certainly the quality of the fish and the rolls is high! We ordered the Lovers Combo which is her go to order. Comes with a rainbow roll (which was so good we actually ordered one separately in anticipation of running out), dragon roll, nigiri, and sashimi. Her pro tip: if you only like certain nigiri you can order more of those kinds and less of the others! The fish was so fresh and delicious in the nigiri and sashimi. The sashimi comes cut in thickn chunks, which honestly I really appreciate -- you can really appreciate the texture and flavor that way! The rainbow roll was delightful! Bashamichi really knows how to make a yummy California roll. The dragon roll was good as well, but not quite as amazing as the rainbow roll. The $68 Treasure chest takes about 20-30 min to prep due to the warm shrimp egg dish. The O toro sashimi, creamy shrimp egg, uni shooter, and oysters are constants while the others change at chef's discretion is a good value for higher end flavors. The #1 hand roll was a bit blandish for $11 a piece, but did have a good creamy uni with contrasting salmon skin crunch. The Bashimashi roll was gimmicky but tasty, with a spicy kick. Service was slow due to one server was also the bus boy and host. The rolls came quick as they do have 2 sushi chefs, of very average skill but speedy as a half empty tables and was takeout orders were not backing up. I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the meal we had here at Bashamichi. For a restaurant attached to an average hotel, I didn't have high expectations, but the food and service here were superb. We came here on a Sunday for lunch, and the place was relatively quiet. Our group of 8 was seated right away. I decided to order their assorted sashimi plate which came beautifully plated on a large bowl of ice with rocks and fake plants. Visually stunning and the fish itself was super fresh and delicious, and were cut into sizable chunks. The rest of the table got an assortment of rolls, bento boxes, and teriyaki chicken and everyone only had good things to say about the quality and deliciousness of their food. I like that they also sell mugs of hot tea instead of making you buy an entire pot - a cup of hot green tea went perfectly with my chilled sashimi. 18% gratuity is automatically added in for large groups but it's a well earned gratuity as the staff was very attentive and brought us everything that we needed. Where other places do not sear tai, we enjoyed it here. - Basamichi Combo: A mix of nigiri and sashimi along with a tasty Cali Roll and miso soup. Everything is fresh from the fish to the roll. - No 1. Hand Roll: When we came last year, this was in a seaweed taco form and now it's a traditional hand roll. The taco form was tastier but the hand roll still has fresh uni, a bit of brine from the ikura paired with the refreshing citrus taste of a shiso leaf. This is not for sharing! - Double Hamachi Roll: Fresh soft Hamachi with a hint of citrus flavor from ponzu makes this a light and refreshing roll. - Dragon Roll: A classic roll with just the right ratio of ingredients. Our family came here with a friend before but I personally didn't not attend. We returned for my father's 61st birthday with a party of seven near the sushi counter. Kai and Johnny the owners were incredibly welcoming and friendly and treated us to a omakase experience from their kitchen's freshest fish. We started out with some appetizers: garlic edamame, hamachi kama, and short rib. Decent start to serve with the sake which the two lovely owners also curated for us. Once we got some food in us and the drinks started flowing, the real show began. Each nigiri came on a dedicated plate for the table and looked amazing. Each one was garnished with its own combination of ingredients that highlighted the freshness of the fish. The slices were generous and each nigiri was perfectly shaped, accented and presented to us. The photos speak for themselves. Excellent knife work chef Kai! My personal favorites were the halibut due to its uniqueness and freshness. As a Bay Area native, I have caught halibut in the bay but it's rare to have it so fresh in nigiri form. My second favorite was the sea bream. Rich buttery fish, when seared, added a nice contrasting flavor of char to the fish's rich flavor. Restaurant is a bit obscure. It's the first floor of the La Quinta Inn and a bit hard to find if you have never been. Parking is free in the hotel lot, they don't put the sign out on the street so it's difficult to know that parking is available. We ended up parking across the street and braving El Camino Real. I definitely recommend placing the sign on the side walk so patron know about the parking in the hotel lot. The final bill came out to about $120 per person all in. For the amount of food we got, the hospitality, and the 6 different bottles of sake served to us, definitely worth the price and experience. Comparable meals with the level of service and nigiri quality would have easily cost twice as much. Plus you may not even be full. We walked out with happy belly's, a nice buzz and blessed to be able to have such a great father to celebrate. Definitely will return again. read more

I got to try their sashimi and an udon dish during lunchtime during the weekend, which was not busy. Some of the sashimi wasn't as fresh as I've had at other places but not a bad options. This unassuming spot tucked on the side of a hotel is a gem! We had various nigiri, and everything was delicious! All the fish we had were very fresh and tasty. Ratio of fish to rice was perfect. Came here last night with a party of 8. Small little gem hidden next to a hotel. This spot can be easily overlooked if you don't know about it. There were a few misses but the stuff that made it good warranted the 4 stars. We had a 5:30 reservation and the table was set when we arrived. Service was nice. A little slow at times especially considering we were the only ones there for a while. We ordered some sake, beer, and sodas for the table. They have a nice selection of sake. We ordered one bottle that was creamy with a little sweetness and another bottle that was a bit dry. Both bottles were inexpensive. I'm not well-versed at sake, but we did enjoy our selections. We started with spring rolls, gyoza, and garlic edamame. They were all pretty simple and basic but still tasty. I ordered a 49er roll and it was excellent. I also ordered the seared salmon toro nigiri but it never came out. Bummer. Most of our table ordered bento boxes. One person ordered the fried beef udon. The name was a little misleading. We thought it was going to be similar to chow mein because of how it read on the menu but it tasted more like an udon soup with less broth. It was still good and the meat was nice but it didn't taste like fried noodles. The bento boxes were thoughtfully put together. Good quality chicken. Not that weird mystery meat they give you at some spots. Miso soup was nice and hot with a little sweetness. My son and I shared a three-item bento box. Salad was delicious. Love the dressing. We also got chicken teriyaki, California rolls, And shrimp tempura. Chicken teriyaki here is definitely above average. Shrimp Tempura, my favorite way to eat shrimp, was underwhelming. 2 of the 3 pieces were soggy. To be fair I believe this was in due to our order. I don't imagine it's easy to put out 6 bento boxes all at the same time. This is a pretty small place so I think it's safe to say there's not a ton of people working back there. Since I've been here before I know this restaurant pays attention to detail. I believe it was too much all at once for them. The California roll, a favorite amongst many, was perfect. All the sushi I've ever had from here, including past visits, from the nigiri to the rolls has always been exceptional. I love the size of their rolls. They're the perfect size so you don't feel like you're choking trying to take it down in one bite. They also don't overuse the rice to make the rolls bigger. One of my biggest pet peeves with sushi. This place is solid for silky delicious sushi. We ended the dinner with an order of the strawberry mochi. It was exactly what you expect it to be. Overall, it was a good time. I wish the group I was with enjoyed sushi because I would've ordered a lot more. This really is the place to go for sushi! But if it's a Bento box that you're looking for this place has great quality food and very nice people who work here. Very cute small restaurant. We got their bento box combos. One with tonkatsu and short ribs. The other with short ribs, tempera, and teriyaki salmon. The salmon and short ribs were very good; saucy and tender. The tonkatsu was a bit dry for mine, but I rather try their chicken katsu next time. One highlight is their miso soup! Not too salty or overwhelming of miso flavor and it was a bit sweet to counter the saltiness which we liked. Lastly their bashamichi roll was melt in your mouth delicious! read more
