First visit to Sushi Ninja today for a quick late lunch. I thought the restaurant was trendy cool with the Nina stars stuck to the walls, nice touch, I thought those were kinda cool. When we arrived, it just so happened there was a small rush of people who came in behind us, I found that the waiting time for service was a bit slow, but understandable due to that little rush, considering at that moment, I only noticed 1 server working at the time. The service was overall decent, the servers tend to push their specials, which to be quite honest with you doesn't go over too well for me, the specials are usually on a board somewhere, it's better for someone to let me know where it is than to tell me what they think I should order. Anyways on to the food! - wakame salad (seaweed salad): I love seaweed salad and in some cases not always available. The salad has ebiko and chopped octopus. A really good appetizer to get things going! - kani salad (crab, mango, cucumber): Another nice starter to get things moving along. The salad I thought was well put together, one could argue there's a bit too much dressing, but I thought it was just fine :) - salmon sushi: unfortunately, I didn't get to try this! My gf decided she could finish both of them for us! Hahaha. - uni sushi: My first thought was the color is off, I hope it's not going to be terrible. I don't know really what to say as finding decent uni has been my biggest problem in the Philippines. It's certainly a hit or miss, but mostly a miss. Overall, it was average for Philippine restaurants that I have been to, below average when considering even just a run of the mill sushi joint in New York. - anago (saltwater eel): A special on the board. Again I thought it was about average in both texture and flavor. Saltwater eel comes naked, no sauce, so typically a little bland to enjoy the natural flavor. - oedo toshi: Wagyu atop a fried ball of rice. Interestingly enough, this is my first go at trying something like this. So first off, the Wagyu, don't expect a melt in your mouth experience, but the meat was tender enough and topped with a dab of wasabi dressing that complimented the dish well I would certainly give this dish another go next time. - okinawa toshi: Torched salmon and cream cheese dresses with I think teriyaki sauce. Firstly, this dish was really pretty, aesthetically I thought the best of the dishes we had. However the fish I thought was really fishy tasting, overly so at times. The teriyaki sauce was a much non-necessary garnish to the dish but yet helped to somewhat mask the fishy taste. - I cannot recall the name of the last dish: It was an off menu baked 1/2 steak of fish. Tender and tasty, I apologize I cannot recall the name. The cost was 695 in case you're interested you could probably ask the server and compare the price. I did enjoy this, I always ordered a grilled cheek back stateside when I go to a sushi joint to enjoy with my beer. This was tender and tasty, and went well with the Asahi beers I had. Overall, decent, something different with the toshi, good salads, I will come by from time to time and try something different. A la cuisine! Stay hungry!

I'm guilty of always ignoring Sushi Ninja. Everytime I'm at Westgate and I drive by this place, my mind is already ranking this as the last Sunday lunch option. For a Japanese sushi restaurant, I just could not take this place seriously because of its quirky name and cartoonish appeal. But today was different. I made it a point to try out this place. I ordered 3 things and all of them contained Salmon. My new favorite, sushi ninja's Spicy Salmon Salad. Where have you been all my life? I placed really high expectations for this because my favorite is the Spicy Shake Sashimi from Nihonbashi Tei and I had doubts that this dish could top that. I was dead wrong. Sure, the one from Nihonbashi Tei is much spicier but for this one, the salmon was really really fresh. In fact, Sushi Ninja served one of the freshest salmon sashimi I have tasted in Manila. Sushi Ninja also has its very own Toshi. From what I understand, it's the chef's very own invention where he rolls the rice and (places it in the deep fryer?). The roll of rice is then topped with torched salmon and cream cheese. My 3rd order was the Sakura Maki, which had salmon and tamago. Both were really good too. The salmon sashimi, again, was really fresh! That alone is worth a visit to sushi ninja. Expect me to make a second visit, maybe a third. Sushi Ninja reminds me of a time when Omakase was not yet this commercialized Japanese restaurant, where the Maki didn't feel like it came out of a cookie cutter. Sushi Ninja, for me, is a solid Japanese sashimi place where the fresh salmon slices are enough to keep this place alive.

Better to make reservations ahead of time!

One of the best sushi joints in the south! Their rolls are stuffed and long unlike other pricey maki's that we get out there. Fresh cut sashimi and not those slimy ones you get sometimes. Perfect vibe, not so crowded. And they also have a specialties board ready for you. I ordered so much and we were so excited that I had to write down my order on a napkin to make sure they get it right, and it worked well! ;)

Going out with someone who is a self-professed lover of all cuisine Japanese has its perks. My eyes were certainly opened, a lot, when I started going to ramen places and the sort. It got to the point where one time, I get a vivid vision of maki rolls and sushi, and suddenly I WANT sushi, a craving that simply wasn't going away. I even went to Buffet 101 to satiate this; it didn't work. I only succeeded in making the guy in charge of the sushi boat sweat, and maybe cry a little. So one Saturday night, after watching a movie with friends, we talked about a good place to go to, preferably one that has sushi. Enter Sushi Ninja. Located in westgate center in Alabang, this little place with its distinctly South Manila approach to Japanese resto design and interiors got me so excited that I actually snapped pictures. When I saw the menu, to be honest, at first I thought "this place is kind of expensive", and while my friend swore that these are big servings, and that we probably won't finish what we ordered, I was skeptical. Sushi and maki are, after all, these tiny, finger-width foods, an inch across if lucky. I was there for the promising descriptions. I was not disappointed by the taste; that is to say, I was blown away. Couple that with the serving sizes, with one roll being the size of a giant embutido, and the experience was suddenly a really good, really relaxed dining pleasure. After all of this was washed down by their rice green tea, I happily forked over my share of the bill, and with the obligatory after-dinner smoke (by company, of course), I now am no longer haunted by visions of floating sushi. My craving was finally satisfied.

If you want a westernized twist to your Japanese food, this is the place to be. Not exaggerating here, but I believe they have the best sushi in town. Their toshi sushi is one for the books and everyone should at least try it. They're a bit pricey but it's really worth trying. Ask the staff for their best sellers and try em all.

Stealth, speed, discipline and mastery of weapons- these are the qualities of a true ninja. When it's combined with Japanese food it becomes something else. The person eating the food, the captive will be so overwhelmed by the maki creations and western fusion rolls that it will almost feel like they can never escape from it. That's how I felt the first time I dined at Sushi Ninja. The artful dishes here were made with such precision and freshness, I knew that my first time wouldn't be the last and the next time wouldn't be too far along. Housed in a beautifully designed modern setting, Sushi Ninja sets the stage for a unique Japanese dining experience that's certainly more than just passable. Expect to have dreams of sushi as soon as you leave the place.

Omakase has always been the go-to restaurant for people searching for a Japanese fix. But look at this OMG only P600 something

Mucho goodo! Very pleasant interiors, speedy service. Just watch out for the Mix Nigiri, the servings are way too huge.

They don't really bank in on flavour too much but they emphasize more on the texture. Omakase is one of the few Japanese restaurants that got that authentic Japanese cooking style. They serve rolls that perfectly roll in your mouth and their tuna and sashimi tastes so fresh and not rubbery at all. I also love their fish-rice ratio because who wouldn't like a huge chunk of fish on top or inside their roll? Like what I said earlier, flavour isn't that much of a thing in Japanese cuisine but they do make up for it with their special sauces. Omakase also serve their own specially made sauces that definitely go well with the food they serve.

My faves would be their spicy salmon or tuna sashimi, uni sashimi and their lunch specials. The lunch specials are so worth it (check out the back pages of the menu). Our family has tried a lot of items in their menu and most if not all have been delicious and satisfying. They've recently expanded to a bigger space to accommodate a new teppanyaki area and more tables. Miyazaki is always full but worth the wait. OK, it's been a while since I've had some decent sushi and I was craving for some "good ass" sushi,…read moreFound It! Now, comparably speaking, I would have to say one of the better sushi places I've been to. I stumbled upon this place on yelp as I happened to go to another Japanese restaurant that was closed partially because I didn't look for their hours before going and partially because their hours we not listed on yelp yet, boo. What I did stumble upon was a photo... of Foie Gras sushi, which 1) I heart Foie Gras and 2) was reminiscent of my time in Hawaii when I was able to enjoy foie gras sushi my first time ever. Soooooo Off We GO to the new Sensei Sushi! Quite possibly one of the better decisions we will make this weekend in regards to cuisine. Service was good, but I did notice a drop off as the place got more and more busy with customers. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The server kept recommending things, which was good and bad, as in my opinion if I wanted some recommendations, I would simply ask and I've been to more than my share of sushi joints and usually know what to order. Nonetheless, overall very helpful. As for the food. One word, Yummy comes to mind, delicious, tasty, fresh-er than most places. OK, that's 7. I usually don't order cooked food at a sushi place, so my review is a mix of their raw and cooked menu. Seared Chutoro Sushi: Well prepared, well cut, not the absolute best part of the tuna belly compared to Otoro, but certainly a delicious treat! Chutoro Sushi: same as above, delicious, very satisfying for those who love that fatty goodness tuna belly has to offer. Foie gras Sushi: great cut, larger than most places I've had this similar dish. Seared perfectly, in my opinion. NOT burnt like most places here in the PH that over sear their foie gras, including Antonio's. MUST TRY! Amaebi: Looked and tasted very fresh. Color was gorgeous and sweet as it should be. Not too much wasabi to spoil it, perfectly balanced in my opinion. Oh! and they deep fry the heads so they can be eaten! Proper! Japanese Uni Sashimi: Color was much better than almost every place I've been in the PH. Looked and tasted fresh-er than most, there was 1 small brownish piece at the bottom, but overlooked it because at most other places, all the pieces are brown. Snaps for the nice yellow Uni to Sensei Sushi! Color wasn't eye popping yellow as it would be when super fresh, yet I'll take it over so many others in Metro Manila. Fish Tacos: Actually quite scrumptious. I wasn't prepared to have good fish tacos, but I saw them on the menu and couldn't resist. They were delicious. Ikura Sushi: A bit disappointed, color was a bit dark and wasn't super fresh, however, that's simply an opinion. I DO KNOW, there are many different grades of ikura, I'm just used to the bright orange color with more of a traditional salted caviar taste, this one just tasted like there was something else I wasn't familiar with. Seared Salmon Belly Suhsi: Another treat I was not expecting. I wasn't expecting a salmon belly so fatty similarly to their chutoro. Overall, very good. Tuna Dynamite Roll: For a roll, quite good. A nice filler, taste was on point with what you would expect in a more than decent roll. I forget the name of the last dish: it was thin strips of beef with chopped foie gras and uni. Quite honestly my first attempt at this dish was head on, meat, foie gras, uni. So sorry not quite what I had expected. THEN however, I deconstructed it, Uni by itself, which the uni on this dish we're I think local, was a bit fishy. BUT then, the foie gras and steak alone, darn it if that wasn't reminiscent to a filet topped with seared foie gras from Central Park Bistro in San Francisco! All that was missing was a perfectly balanced '12 Opus One red to cap it off. Overall: with the exceptions above... I will be back for more! A la cuisine! Stay Hungry My Friends
