I was served Big, plump, fresh pieces of sushi. Very tasty. The miso soup was a bit salty and lacked tofu, but these are not significant drawbacks. Service is quick and efficient. The sushi chefs are fast and skilled. The fish case is filled with lots of fresh-looking fish - a good sign that indicates quick turn-over of inventory that allows them to serve very fresh sushi. One suggestion - put in a bigger white board behind the counter, and write the specials in large, readable script. Their food might be fine, but how they run their business is simply horrible. My wife planned weeks in advance to order a large carryout order for a birthday party celebration. Yesterday, she called the restaurant again to confirm that this would be OK, and they assured her there would be no issue. Been a regular here since moving to Tucson early this year. Explored many Japanese restaurants and settled here. Great quality/quantity food for great price. Service can be slow sometimes when there are too many customers. For weekend dinners, go at the right time and you'll be happy, 10min before open or 30min before close. It's kinda like some of the steps of service were left off which is the only service flaw. It's a basic place with basic interior, presentation, vibe, and dinnerware. This was always our go to place for sushi. We went awhile ago and found out it was sold, nothing to write home. But we decided to go back. We'll it's still nothing to write home to. Ordered edamame, dry , and no taste. We ordered rainbow roll, ok looked commercial. Also ordered yellow tail and nigiri and tuna roll. The rolls were fresh but fell apart, the nigiri was white which was weird but also hard. Asked to take back one of them and take off bill, no problem. Probably the best in town. We love Sushi on Oracle for a number reasons. Nice homey family place. Friendly and fair in price, and quality of the cuisine. It's obvious it's a winner as there's always a line out the door on weekend eves. The place is small but cozy and well run. The sushi is fresh and firm and tasty, the cooked foods are always a pleasure. We'd probably eat there even more often if it were on our side of town! In the summer I go out of my for the nice refreshing cold noodle dish ten zaru soba! 2020 UPDATE - I first wrote this review in 2015 on Zomato - but still feel the essence of it remains - one of the best Japanese Sushi spots in town. I have been there 3 times. I ordered the shrimp tempura and steak teriyaki . The Tempura comes out great except for the fact that there was only one shrimp and lots of vegetables. The steak teriyaki isn't consistent. I ordered it medium and I got it well done and it was tough. The grade of meat isn't tenderized enough. I'm not sure what had happened today, it's not our first time coming to this restaurant, and it always been good. But today I brought my family for lunch and for some reason we felt we were not welcomed. We walked in today (10/06/2023) at around 1pm for lunch. They were pretty busy as all tables were occupied. The server didn't bring us any straws for our drinks, and the whole vibe was strange as the way the server took our order made us feel like we were bothering her for being there... Never refill our water, no one would take our dirty/ empty plates. Then we were in the middle of eating, the server came to ask if we are ready for boxes... and when we were eventually done and asked for a box and check, the same server just rudely dump the box and the check in front of me... I couldn't help myself and asked if she was having a bad day, as I sincerely wanted to know why she was being that rude to us ( her customers).. her respond was " No, why?!" and she yelled at the other server to finish charging my card. Food was good as usual, and we always take care of the servers... but this time I just can't do it.. it was probably the worst service I have ever gotten in my life.. atmopshere was bad from the get go, the server acted like she was very angry with something or someone and just wanted to take it out on someone, I'm not sure... We read that this is the best in town for sushi! While we haven't tried any other sushi places yet we were very happy with food. We had the pork dumplings, seaweed salad and 3 different sushi rolls. Sushi on Oracle is a small but busy place. The decor was nothing to write home about, especially the colored cardboard cutout fish hanging from the ceiling. We were immediately served miso soup and edamame without ordering it which was nice. The soup was hot but the edamame was cold. Servers were kind and generally attentive but the food was just average. I ordered a combination chicken teriyaki plate with four California rolls. The chicken tasted like it was low quality and the California rolls were simply average. Based on the number of people who were going in and out of the restaurant I'd likely go back to try something different. read more

One of the best places to come for sushi on the Oro Valley side of town. Their fish is always super fresh and the menu has a good selection of items to choose from. Come early because this place gets really busy and the parking lot gets full. My favorite appetizers are the soft shell crab and gyoza. We were completely ignored and sat for 40 mins at the table. Tried to get their attention and finally asked for the check with the two items we never got taken off. We waited another 15-20mins before getting up and saying we were leaving and if they wanted us to pay they needed to give us the check. Took another 5 minutes and they had to ask us again what we didn't get so they could remove it from the bill. They brought the check then and left. Sushi on Oracle is certainly a legit sushi spot. Considering how many sushi bars we have in this town it's almost intimidating to try new places, or risky in that it might not be a great experience. I've read through plenty of the reviews for Sushi on Oracle and they were spot on. I appreciate this place because it's a no frills experience. Its certainly small and intimate, but the bar has plenty of seating which is great for me since I prefer to sit at the bar and chat with the chef. I especially enjoy watching them in action. Plus, i feel like it's a more personalized experience in that the sushi chef can get to know what I like and then serve me things that he thinks I would enjoy. Ultimately, I'm a traditionalist when it comes to how I order and since I stick primarily to Nigiri and sashimi, quality is king. You can't mask the flavor of bad fish when you eat Nigiri. The cuts were well portioned and the fish was fresh and buttery. We ordered toro, hamachi, sea bass (special), spicy yellow tail and a rainbow roll for my boyfriend. All were perfect. The sea bass Nigiri was a first for me, and I truly enjoyed it! The shocker for us was how inexpensive the bill was. We also had a large Asahi beer, squid salad, and a diet coke, all for $38.00. We were in shock especially considering that we ordered toro nigiri which was about $7.00 for two pieces. We had toro last week at another sushi bar in town and it was $18.00 for the same exact portion. The disparity in price by comparison is astounding. The price point at this place is certainly appealing, but I'm left wondering how they can possibly charge such low prices and serve free edemame and miso soup to each customer. So pretty darned good sushi at a super good price would normally receive five stars but I'm rating four for two reasons. First, the rice was good but not perfectly sticky and flavorful as it should be. I'd have to say that Yamato makes the best sushi rice in town, adding another layer of flavor and texture that I found was lacking in my experience here. Nonetheless, the sushi was good. Second, while our sushi chef rocked and was sure friendly, spaced out our orders and allowed is to give verbal orders, the waitstaff was not very attentive in terms of clearing dishes from the bar. We had little plates piling up and a waitress would come refill Water or peek over at us, but never came to clear the plates. So, We felt a little crowded. Not a deal Breaker by any means. Sushi on Oracle is definitely on my top three sushi spots in Tucson and we'll be back again. read more
