Wow. I have not been back here in a really long time due to not enjoying it the second time I went... But now I have gone here twice recently - they no longer have dine in service only takeout... They're sushi is the freshest and so generously stuffed full of fish it feels like robbery for their prices. I have been to "Sushi on the Edge" several times in the past 5 years. The interior was a very intense & eclectic one....Hand made signs and lighting that gave the place an "Old School & New York Vibe"...Prior to COVID they were excellent and the Sushi and Tempura and other Japanese dishes were prepared well and prices & service were great! However, during and after COVID they seemed to suffer dramatically! While the Sushi was now just OK.. there wasn't any staff (just Husband and Wife)...so I was asked to wait outside for my order to go..?? Strange as this was a fairly large "sit down" restaurant..? Then I ordered a "take out "Shrimp and Veggie Tempura platter and WOW.. that was it! Totally"soggy " and not even close to being a nice crispy treat!...So that was it for me...!! The food here is pretty decent and filling. The salmon skin salad was enough for 2 people. I would have liked a knife to make the salmon skin smaller since it was a little hard to chew. Jalapeño cream cheese wontons and salmon hand roll were ok. The spam musubi was pretty tasty, it had pretty good flavor in the rice and spam. Inside it appears they have the inside set up for only to go orders . I've never been here before so I wasn't sure if that was typical. We ordered the tempura shrimp . Little oily but crispy perfectly seasoned , shrimp was cooked perfect . We also ordered salmon and shrimp rolls . My son loved them . Prices were very reasonable too! Walk-in order to go around 430pm. The place was clean and not busy at all. One couple at a table and one other person at the bar. A lady greeted me as I walked in. She was friendly. It took between 15-20 minutes to recieve my order. I ordered 1 scallop handroll, spicy scallop roll, poke salad and spider roll. The rice wasn't cooked well, a little on the hard side. The vinegar flavor in the rice was lacking (important part of sushi). If the rice is messed up, the whole sushi dish is pretty much ruined. The spicy scallop roll was bland, the red spice added nothing to it. There was also a weird taste that I couldn't pinpoint. Aaagh... the scallops in the handroll were still frozen! OMG. Couldn't eat it, wanted to, but just couldn't. The saving grace, and reason why I gave 3 stars, was the poke salad. It was pretty good, had a nice flavor and the tuna was fresh. There was seaweed salad in it and some sesame seeds sprinkled on top. If the sesame seeds were toasted, it would've taken the dish to a whole other level. Okay... if you read my last review for this place you'll probably be surprised that I actually came back a third time. But I was in this plaza and needed something quick and relatively healthy so I (remembering the 1 star redemption I gave it for the chicken and soup) ducked back in hoping they'd earn a star back. Nope. I didn't think it was possible, but this place got even worse. At first I couldn't figure out why my lunch combo (teriyaki chicken and sashimi) were taking so long to come out... until i realized that they were waiting for the chicken to be completely cremated and for the fish to spoil before bringing it out. Yeah seriously - it took about 40 minutes - for a lunch combo - that i ordered at lunchtime - and there was only one other customer in there who was already served food when I walked in..... the chicken was burned/dried out beyond recognition then drowned in sauce, and the fish was so off-tasting that I literally had a wave of nausea the moment i put it in my mouth and so spit it out again immediately and didn't touch any more of it. I ate the miso soup, side salad, and a few bites of rice - because that was the only edible food i was served. If i'm back here again in another year trying to take this one star away, please make me get my head examined. read more

This place has Super great quality fish and definitely won my heart! Their prices seriously don't do them justice! I'm so happy I found this place. She is always with the best energy taking the orders, and gives an exact waiting time. The chef is also very friendly and a genius with the rolls. They do a great team. The Philadelphia roll is my favorite! After that, I recommend Vegas roll, is excellent; and of course the Rainbow roll is fantastic. I order here, at least, once a week. Absolutely HORRIBLE owners! Decided to try them out, feeling sorry for them, seeing them empty all the time. Went in, ordered two chicken teriyaki bowls, and some sushi. After I paid, $22.57, I asked to a little extra terijaki sauce on the side, and the owners wife said that would be .25 each for the two bowls. I was surprised and said really? I just spent $22.57 and you want to charge me for a tiny little bit of extra sauce? She said yes, and so I said, then, no thank you, I don't need the extra sauce. And I assumed that was that! Oh no!!!! The husband, the chef/food preparer, became incensed and started to verbally attack me! Wild!! I admit, I was dumbfounded!! He went on and on about how he wasn't about to give anything away free! He was incredibly RUDE! I told him it was inappropriate for him to speak to me this way, and that I had chosen to give him my business and that I could have easily gone somewhere else. He then told me he had lots of customers and that he didn't NEED my business. He also told me that I was rude by being surprised that they charge for extra sauce and pointed to a sign off to the side that said so. I hadn't seen it. It wasn't obvious. And I told him had it been placed more prominently I would not have even had the conversation. He then took his mask off and approached me in an aggressive manner, still telling me how weird and rude I was (not knowing that charging for sauce is THEIR thing, I guess)! At this point I decided it was probably DANGEROUS to purchase/ eat anything he might make so I asked his wife for my money back, and she reversed the charge. CLEARLY, these folks have anger issues, and incredibly horrible people skills! I would never step foot inside this establishment again, and will simply continue to go across the street to Wasabi! Enter at your own risk, and for goodness sake, don't even look sideways if they charge you extra for anything! Who knows, that moment might be THE moment where he looses it COMPLETELY and hits you! Still shaking my head over this whole encounter. Even after I apologized for being surprised, without having raised my voice or said anything unkind to either of them, he just wouldn't let it go! Tonight we tried the following: Mixed Tempura app Shishito app Hamachi Popper Roll Salmon nigiri Rock Star Roll Sashimi Salad Everything was DELICIOUS. Salmon tasted fresh, my kids ate it up quick. Hamachi was fresh. Husband was really impressed with the shishito peppers and loved the sashimi salad as well. All the sushi had fresh, juicy lemon/lime garnishes for your liking. Nice touch, I thought. Some people say "too saucy". If you're gonna be picky, order it on the side or without. This place deserves a higher rating. I should note I have not tried their hot food, except for their tempura, which was good. We will keep this place in mind, for sure! read more

Amazing! Roll samurai is huge, even difficult to put on mouth, and yummy. The interior is so good, the chairs are much more comfortable, then other sushi restaurants in San Diego. We really enjoyed the food and service here. Great rolls, excellent and vast beverage selection. Lots of local brewery choices, we just had some Kirin and a glass of whine. Lol. We enjoyed a dragon roll, Shadowridge Bomb Roll, and a Sushi on The Rock roll. Everything was tasty and fresh fish, eel sauces were nice and tangy, and great garlic edamame appetizers. Delicious! One note: all of your sushi roll come out on one plank, not a big deal, just sometimes confused on who eats what. Not a big deal, just noteworthy. Their food arrives hot or cold and up to 15 to 20 minutes before they say it will be there. The portions are very generous. I ordered the mixed tempura vegetables with shrimp, and was amazed at the quantity. The tempura broccoli and the mushrooms were absolutely delicious. The other vegetables were very good too but I never had more delicious tempura broccoli and mushroom. The appetizer was so abundant that I couldn't even eat my sushi roll so I put it in the fridge and I'm having the sushi roll the next day. There were more sushi pieces than what I expected. For delivery that included a 25% tip for the driver, a $3.99 service charge or delivery charge, plus an abundance of food was $24.26. Very reasonable considering I was already in my pajamas and too exhausted to go out after a hike earlier in the day. I highly recommend that you support this little local place. Great little spot to stop and grab a good inexpensive bite to eat. The staff were friendly and very attentive and overall the place was clean. I didn't go to the restrooms but parking was easy for the time of day that I went. I would definitely go back. It's a small place but nice for small 2-4 people gatherings. read more

I really wanted to like this place because it's local. I visited pre-pandemic and the food was okay but they had a drain problem that made a bad smell that was very off-putting. My husband and I ordered dinner twice recently and were disappointed both times. Our egg rolls were under cooked and raw in the center. Our fried rice was mushy and gray. Our noodles were alright. Our tuna rolls were loose and fell apart when you picked them up which is a shame for a sushi restaurant. It's as if there was no effort or pride that went into those dishes. read more

I've been to this place twice now and I have to give it a low rating because both experiences were downright bad. And the reason is purely because the service is terrible. First trip: I wait about 15-20min to get a seat at the vacant bar because the host/waitress needed to wipe it down. Around 630pm. The tables were mostly occupied so she was busy. Then it took about 20-30 minutes to even put my order in. I gave her my order clearly 2 speciality rolls. About 20 min later she brought me a roll I didn't order. I told her I didn't order that and she asked if wanted to cancel it. Cancel what? I didn't order it. I told her that and she said okay and took it back. 15min later I get my rolls. The rolls were really good so I have to say that and the portions were big. The sushi was good and well priced. I was satisfied but I was there for over 2 hours (dining solo at the bar...). It seemed the lady was over worked. I think they need to hire more staff, kinda felt bad for her. The sushi chef was cool as a cucumber however. Second experience: I went there around 530 after work to eat. I walk in and there are 2 diners at the bar and 2 at a table. The same waitress immediately tells me they are closed for the day. Just plain bizarre. I was bummed because I liked the sushi and was going to give them another shot. Now I'm skeptical to even show up there, and will probably just go to the other sushi place across the street which will actually serve you. I may give them another chance sometime and update the review! Update: third time, better service for sure and the same good sushi I am much more pleased. read more
