Hand Rolls and El Diablo Roll w/ Mix Tempura
    Ismael P.

This is my favorite spot in North County to get sushi! The ambiance is relaxing and feels like you are in Japan with all the various memorabilia. The sushi chef is always friendly and greets everyone as they walk in. The service can be slow at times, but mainly when it is busy. I love getting the El Fuego Roll and El Diablo Roll! They have so much flavor and are spicy. The nigiri is also really good. My favorite is the salmon nigiri. It is always fresh and fatty. I recommend their mixed tempura and fried gyoza for the appetizers. I also love their lunch or dinner combos where you can get bento box specials with beef, chicken, or salmon teriyaki. There are so many good dishes here and I love their sushi! The friendliness, decor, and fresh sushi are what make this place a hidden gem in San Marcos! I will be back soon!

I love hyuga sushi sm. Great prices for the quality. One of a kind ambiance. Family owned and family run. If you're lucky enough to go while they're open, you win

Food was amazing, I got the salmon bento box and it was very filling. tasted like it was made with love. The environment was nice seeing all the anime memorabilia and unique collection of the store owner. Service was top notch, 10/10 and the server was very caring and brought us only the best. Couldn't recommend this place enough

The wall decor next to our table. Super cute

We celebrated my son's bday on sat June 1 and had a wonderful dinner. The ambiance is welcoming and full of interesting anime posters and figurines. There's old Hollywood classic movie posters scattered on the walls and a great playlist of rock , jazz playing in the background. It reminds me of a local hole in the wall Japanese food cafe We had excellent service and our dishes were fresh and enjoyed by all of us. I ordered the salmon and tempera bento box. Kids ordered soba noodles and the Saba fish plate. We also ordered the sushi assortment plate and two specialty rolls. Miso soup was served with the dinner entrees and was delicious. I opted for the salted salmon instead of teriyaki on my bento box and it was delicious. The tempura was generous. Two shrimps and an assortment of root veggies. I prefer a lighter crispier batter fry but still was good. The sushi was fresh and rolled with a good balance ratio of rice & goodies , cut in to several one -bite size potions. Making it easy to eat and savor Many sushi places cut the rolls into chunky large sizes and it's difficult to eat with one fell swoop of your chop sticks. We ordered green hot tea and it was served by the mug with a tea bag. Not in the traditional tea pot. Still good. Prices are reasonable 5 of us it was $150.

    Lots of posters in here!

Got recommended to try out this place, which I will admit that I felt skeptical because their operating hours were a bit weird. But I decided to try it out on a Saturday evening. The place is a little small but there were still enough seats around and we sat at the bar. We ordered three nigiri (maguro, tamago, and Kura), two special rolls (Special Albacore Roll and Las Vegas Roll), and a regular sushi roll (spicy tuna roll). I will say I was actually quite impressed with the taste of them! This definitely is one of those authentic Japanese sushi restaurants as their rolls are smaller, which I actually prefer! And they actually add wasabi in their nigiri, which many sushi restaurants do not do. And the chef and everyone is Japanese! If you actually want some authentic Japanese food, I highly recommend giving this place a try! Make sure to check their operating hours before coming since they don't open all day. And there is a good amount of parking spots in the area so it shouldn't be too hard to find parking.

I moved away for a while, but I still like to come here. I love the fact that this is a truly authentic restaurant. The chef has been serving his food and cultivating his atmosphere, and it shows. I love the simplicity and uniqueness of this restaurant, even 8 years later. I saw the recent negative reviews, and I feel some yelpers are becoming divas. This isn't a Michelin-starred restaurant. There are very few of those in the world. I'm not Gordon Ramsay with extensive nonsense critical ability and training to back up my audacity. I'm just a regular guy who likes simple yet good food. That's why I like it here.

Still our favorite hole in the wall Japanese restaurant! The sushi is on point. The staff is friendly. A great selection of affordable beers. It's our go to Japanese/sushi!

Hey hey they're open for takeout! Although it rarely comes to anyone's mind to order sushi takeout during a pandemic, don't forget Kuro-san's kitchen makes very nice bento boxes and combo lunches too and they're such a bargain! We wanted to support them because we love this place, so one lunch time we decided to order food there. I got their katsu with tempura combo and my hubby got his favorite sesame chicken lunch special. Oh wow, they packed our food soooo nicely in many separate containers! (We felt bad for all the plastic being used...) for my combo, one box was the katsu and rice, the other for tempura, another for California rolls, another one for salad and a bowl for miso soup....! Husband's special also came with 4 containers. When he came home, he had two giant bags of food even though we only ordered two lunch combos haha! Their food had always been amazing, and it didn't disappoint us for our first takeout experience!! Support Hyuga and stay healthy everyone!

The sushi was pretty fresh and good (tuna belly, uni and sweet shrimp) except the scallop tasted a bit off, like fizzy. Rolls were yummy and smaller than other places I've had but I enjoyed the balanced portions. Reasonably priced. Overheard the chef has been here for 15 years. It felt like supporting an authentic mom-and-pop business which is always a plus. Unfortunately one person in my party got food poisoning that evening but I was fine.

    Albacore roll without albacore, again!
    Cliff P.

We ordered the albacore special roll, the en fuego roll, California roll for my kid, and edamame. The en fuego roll was really good. Unfortunately the messed up the Special Albacore roll again. It's a great roll when they make it correctly at the restaurant, but for some reason they can't get it together when you order pick up or delivery. Super bummed to pay $17 bucks for a California roll coated in tempura flakes.

We ordered and within 20 minutes got our foods. Quick, organized service. Quality of foods was spectacular. We all really liked the items we chose and the portions were great. I will say, the FM Roll was really good. I haven't really tried steak on seafood sushi rolls before so this was a pleasant surprise. The beef was cooked to perfection and overall was so tasty. All the other rolls were fresh, flavorful, and generally very good. The menu has a lot of options so it's a great place to go for big parties or parties with various palates. The Tempura shrimp was chewy. The Calamari tempura roll was the highlight for my Son. But he also didn't like the mushy rice. We might go there the second time around. Maybe we just got unlucky today. The price is average.

Coincidentally, if you're still naive enough to believe in that sort of thing, was the night the family ate at LOVE BOAT SUSHI and my grandson's birthday. we sat outside to accommodate a party of nine there to celebrate the thirteenth anniversary of Benjamin's birth. that's a nod to my late father who ALWAYS insisted on making the distinction between anniversary (which happens every year) and the actual day of birth (which happens only once). as you would reasonably assume from the photos (and AWOL are an additional eight or ten items), to paraphrase a line from my favorite Muppet movie, dinner in this restaurant costs the same as a new Buick. hey, I read it in the Wall Street Journal -- it must be true. service and food were both five stars. happy birthday, Benjamin. ps: not sure why only ten of the nineteen photos attached to the footer of my review since they ALL posted. does Yelp have a cutoff of ten?

OMG finally found a really good ramen place in North County!…read more My husband and I wanted to try out a new restaurant for date night. I searched through yelp and saw the pictures of the cute little character buns. Then I clicked in and also saw they had ramen too! It was an instant yes! The parking lot was very spacious and no too busy. The restaurant was not very busy either so we were able to be seated right away. It was so hard to choose what to try first. We started out with the chicken character bun. So stinking cute! I probably could eat about 5 of those in one sitting. Then we got the pork belly bao buns. I have tried a few from different places but this one stole the show! Everything about it was amazing! And of course we had to try the ramen. I got the Me so hot. I was a little doubtful to try it because of the ground pork. That's one thing I like about ramen, the slices of meat. Ommmmfgggg it was so good. The right amount of spice, the crunch from the peanuts & it had Broussal sprouts???!!! We can not wait to go back and try out the noodles and sushi!

The roasted sprouts in the ramen were a first for me; however they work really well. They complement the subtle spice of the broth with an earthy, slightly sweet nutty flavor. My two downsides to the ramen are: 1. It doesn't include the typical ramen egg (it's an additional $2) and 2. the chashu portion is ridiculous--they give 2 measly pieces that are like 1/6" thick. While it's good I'd only return if I was too lazy to make the drive to convoy (which is why I went in the first place).
