Really enjoyed the sushi selection. We opted for the lunch AYCE buffet which excluded some specialty rolls. Dinner AYCE buffet gives you the full menu but Lunch satisfied us. We got there close to opening and there were folks at the sushi bar, and 2 other tables seated. They have slips for you to fill out and no limit to how many to order. We selected majority of our meal during the first round. Overall it was great, service was quick but I'm not sure if their system would work if there were more patrons. Our waitress was nice to prepare a huge dessert for my husband's birthday! She was very friendly and accommodating. We will definitely come back the next time we are in South Lake Tahoe.

Not sure what all of the fuss is about on their recent reviews for multiple one stars. I was on a mission to check them out again, it's been one year since my dad and I went in November 2024, where we had a lovely experience. Since this is the only all you can eat sushi restaurant in South Lake Tahoe, we knew this is where we wanted to go on this Tuesday night. We got there early to check out the casino that is connected to the restaurant and so we walked in shortly after 5 o'clock. We chose our seat at the bar, which is the best place to sit, in my opinion. Especially if you want great service, I recommend getting to know your sushi chef. We had the pleasure of meeting Francisco and I think he told us his nickname is Kiko. I started off by washing my hands in the bathroom, which was extremely clean and spotless so to my surprise, I thought, wow clean is a good sign. To make this short and sweet we ordered amazing Nigiri a couple of appetizers, buy one get one free house sake, and we only shared two long rolls because we filled up quickly. My only complaint was that I couldn't find anyone to fill up my water until the very end so Francisco filled it up for me. Sushi makes me thirsty! All in all we had a four star experience and I'll keep it at that for now.

    Tilapia not red snapper

Let me get it started. $45 per person is a joke. my daughter is 9 year old and they don't care 45$. 1 server is nice only one that speak English. It's OK we're cool with that. Sit down for about 15 minutes and severe come by. We asked for miso soup and appetizer. Soup was using salt water, salty as hell we asked for hot water to put them in. Here comes the food. I took a couple pictures just go ahead and look at it. They say we have to finish all the rice that is on the rolls. And sushi. So I ordered red snapper and they gave me tilapia. I told him it's tilapia. It's not red snapper and they looking at me like I'm crazy.. I'm a Sushi Chef. I know what I'm ordering. It was horrible. The guy look at me curse in Spanish like I'm stupid.. I've been there about 2-3 years ago was a lot better than now. Take your money somewhere else... 145$ +20 tips 165$ it's a joke

    Really salty miso soup.

The food here was okay. Not the best, not the worst. Some items like the stuffed deep fried squid and upside down crab were pretty good. I didn't like that the nigiri and hand rolls had way too much rice. There was so much rice, we didn't even bother ordering sushi rolls and we did the AYCE. The rice was also hard. Kids' price for AYCE is the same as adults. For that, I am docking a star. They do have a kids menu to order separately from, but the fact that my two year old only took 4 bites of his food, it would have been nice to have the 3 and under eat free option. This is the first AYCE restaurant I've been to that doesn't have that. I ordered the miso soup and it was very salty. The quail egg shooters were also salty. I ordered the house salad thinking it was going to be made with green spring mix and a delicious sauce like other sushi restaurants. Instead, it was cabbage with a mayonnaise dressing which I did not like. Customer service was good and the waitress came over often. It's a decent and quiet little restaurant. Were I to come here again, I would skip the salmon and tuna hand rolls because they were simple and bland with tones of rice.

Got greeted and seated right away! Ended up doing all you can eat sushi and it was pretty good. The miso soup was really salty but other than that, the sushi itself was good! The place was spacious and lots of seating. All the workers were very nice and accommodating. I love how our orders got taken care of right away. Would go again to try other things.

Sushi Pier Tahoe Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Sushi Pier Tahoe

Are there appetizers and other food included in the AYCE?

Yes. Appetizers and desserts as well.

If only a few people in your party want AYCE can others just order individual rolls or does everyone have to get AYCE?

Each customer may order AYCE or individual rolls as they would prefer. We ask that customers participating in the AYCE do not share their items with those ordering individually. Thank you!

Do they still serve AYCE sushi?

Yes they do, both for lunch and dinner, very limited seating right now so plan ob a bit of a wait

Difference between lunch or dinner AYCE?

All the same deal, not sure if night prices are different but we've been at lunch and dinner and their sushi is SUPERB. Service is great, staff is nice, food is outstanding !!!

How long is wait for dinner?

Unless you are in during off-hours or off-season, there is always a wait here but it is worth it <3

There was definitely a hint of "tourist trap" happening here, but honestly, that's not the restaurant's fault. Some people just hate to venture too far from their comfort zone! One of the main courses we ordered was the sea bass, and it was perfectly prepared--well-cooked, flavorful, and a definite standout. If you're looking for a high-quality, well-prepared meal paired with experienced, attentive servers, you really can't go wrong here. Sometimes the best meals are hiding in plain sight. BB

I took photos of the bowl as it was served, including close-up photos, and I'm including them with this review. To their credit, the staff tried to make up for it by giving us a complimentary slice of guava cheesecake. The cheesecake was good, although the guava part was basically an orange-colored syrup. I appreciate that they acknowledged the problem and made an effort to address it, but finding a hair in food is still difficult to overlook. As for the rest of the meal, the $38 Sampler was easily the best thing we ordered. It came with 4 baby back ribs, 2 crab cakes, and 4 jumbo shrimp. Everything on that plate was good. The Caesar salad with grilled chicken was mediocre. Nothing particularly bad, but nothing special either. The fried calamari was also lacking in volume. The sampler was good, but unfortunately, finding a hair in the poke bowl overshadowed the meal.

We were seated immediately on a Sunday at 6 pm. The restaurant was clean and has both indoor and outdoor seating. We ordered a house salad, sashimi and two rolls. Our meal also came with miso soup. The miso soup had a fair taste and was very light on the tofu, green onions and greens. The salad dressing also had a fair taste - nothing extraordinary. We ordered the nine piece sashimi. The salmon was fresh and tasty. The tuna was also fresh and tasty, but it had a green sauce on top that we both did not care for. The Hamachi was ice cold and tasteless. The best roll was a baked roll with crab and avocado and lobster on top. It was absolutely delicious. The Carnation roll was crab and avocado wrapped in tuna and salmon with tobiko and a tempura scallop on top of each cut roll. The roll itself was average, but the warm tempura scallop on top was delicious! The sauce was a spicy mayo and Unagi sauce. We did like the fact the rice was rolled thinner on the rolls. The menu had a great variety of appetizers, sashimi, sushi rolls, and specialty rolls. There were also Korean dishes that looked yummy. We may come back to try other items on the menu, but the sushi was hit and miss. If we could, we would give this restaurant a 3.5 star rating.

I ordered the 1 dozen oysters, clam linguine, and house salad. Oysters -- 7/10 The oysters were really fresh and shucked right in front of you, which was definitely a plus. They were a little too big for my liking and had a creamier texture than I prefer, but overall they were good. Clam Linguine -- 7/10 The linguine was solid. The portion was decent, and I liked the combination of clams, lemon, garlic, and Parmesan. Nothing that completely blew me away, but still a good dish. Might pass on the parmesan next time because it clunked up as it melted in the dish. House Salad The salad was actually pretty good and surprisingly large for a house salad. Fresh lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, olives, and plenty of croutons. Overall, everything is prepared fresh right in front of you, which I really enjoyed. The oysters being freshly shucked definitely added to the experience. The wait wasn't terrible, and if you're an oyster or seafood fan, it's worth stopping by while you're in Tahoe.
