Sushi Pirate has a really extensive artistic menu, with some sushi inspired by the Pirates of the Caribbean. It is really fun and lives up to what it shows in the menu. I only eat salmon, crab or tuna when I eat sushi, so my review is limited to those choices and the veggie options. The salad, miso, bento box and sushi are awesome. I love it! It can get expensive, but seems worth it to me. The bento box is only available during a long lunch time Monday thru Friday, and it is very filling and tasty. My favorite themed sushi is the "Barbossa". It is amazingly delicious. I have enjoyed sushi in California, Minneapolis and New York. This is really good. They also offer soba noodles, teriyaki/rice/meat dishes and children's meals, which are adorable! This is another place that La Crosse really needs! read more

I've eaten sushi in Japan and in sushi bars in major cities and would never hold a place like this to that standard so my expectations are realistic. I have had sushi from here several times in the past and it's been... okay. Okay sushi is better than no sushi. Until last night. We ordered four rolls and I've never had anything more disgusting in my life. The spicy tuna was a pasty mush of something unrecognizable and foul tasting. My cat's food was more appealing. But even that was better than a crab roll topped with salmon and tiny little multi-colored candy sprinkles. Yes, you read that correctly. Candy sprinkles. The kind you see on cookies. It couldn't even be wiped off because it had gotten mixed into the rice and left sad little artificial food dye spots on the salmon. I went back to double-check - the menu did not say there would be candy on the roll. It said topped with tobiko. If you think candy is an acceptable ingredient in sushi or there is no difference between tobiko and candy sprinkles, this is the place for you. If you actually like sushi, stay away. read more

Really like this place. Some of the special rolls are a bit pricey but everything tasted very fresh. They had a large sorts fancy drink selection and they cost around $6.50 each. The strange thing is exotic drinks like that usually come out with fancy fruit and garnishes. These were just poured into a glass you would put coke in. However they were fairly large glasses so I guess that evens it out. The grilled beef rolled around green onions was sorta bland but the lobster salad roll and spicy tuna rolls were real good. Great service. The male boss is fast, and friendly. Their overall menu is more expensive, as it can considering it's the decent only sushi place in lax, but their lunch special is pretty worth it. It has a quiet, relaxing atmosphere, and very friendly staff! I've eaten inside, ordered sushi to-go and have ALWAYS loved the food!! It does take a while to get your food, but it's well worth the wait, and you can appreciate the care and effort that was put into every roll. I made a Yelp account to tell people how bad this was. I am not a picky person and will eat just about anything. I was not feeling well so I ordered the udon shrimp, egg roll, and pork gyoza through eat street to my home. What I got was seafood udon with shrimp, oyster, lobster substitute, and another type of fish meat that I was unsure of. The gyoza was pretty good but their dipping was was average, egg roll were just ok tasted greasy but I ate both of them and didn't have much complaint, the udon though... oh man. Right off the bat the smell of it was bad, the broth was bad, and the fact that they call it shrimp and give you mystery seafood for the price of it was crazy. I had two sips of the broth and maybe three noodles and flushed it down my toilet. I have little doubt I would have gotten food poisoning from this. I've eaten there before and had suishi and that was good, this was horrible. read more

We got served hot baked sushi. I don't know if it was intended this way, if the fish was no longer safe to serve raw, or if we were being messed with. The menu did not signify this was a warm sushi roll, but the roll definitely came out on tin foil and the shrimp tails on the end were burned. Even if it was supposed to be served warm (I say there's no way), the fish was overcooked and not tasty. The cold rolls we ordered were OK. The staff seemed friendly. read more

I LOVE the Sushi Pirate. I go here constantly, almost once a week. Simon the owner is super friendly, he always says hi and chats. His wife is sometimes there with their very cute daughter. However, the food is the best part! I love the roles. the fish is fresh and tasty, the service is fast and attentive. The ambiance is casual and relaxed. I definitely think this is the sushi place to go in Lacrosse area. Good sushi is difficult to find in Lacrosse and this place got it right! Keep up the great work! read more

OMG this is such a cute little restaurant. It was a little too dark (lighting) for my liking because I couldn't see the menu. Very pirate-themed from the menu and the atmosphere. The food we ordered: Tempura Udon, Kaptain Bar, & Snow White. I recommend them all. Kaptain Bar was spicy because it had jalepenos, but it was so refreshing and good, if you're into spicy food. The udon was a lot better than I had expected because it is hard to get the soup base correct, but the veggies in there made me see a glimpse of heaven. I love my soup filled with veggies! The snow white was sooo good. I was so full, but I had to keep eating that. My boyfriend had the leftovers the next day. Heated up with a wet paper towel and it was still good. That is when you know it is good. I don't think this deserves a 5 star though, because I wasn't 'blown' away. However, the food still excited me and it was a creative way to present sushi. The theme made it have a better ambiance. I am all about themed restaurants, so this is an A in my books! read more

I've eaten at Sushi Pirate three times since they opened in late April and have found the service to be very good, the sushi tasty, and reasonably priced. While they don't carry some of the more exotic fish you'd find at sushi places in large cities, they do a good job with the standard fare of tuna, crab, eel, shrimp egg, snapper, etc. Definitely and improvement over the previous establishment where service was very slow & food was mediocre. read more

Ordered carry out, staff was slow to ring the order up when I showed up. Then when I got home the order was missing the appetizers. The Alaska roll and Philadelphia roll had a rotten fish smell and and off flavor. I was not able to eat more than one piece of each. This by far was the worse sushi I have ever had. The people here are cheap. We ordered fried rice and the portion sizes are like a child's side dish and for 6.95 for one order it is truly not worth the effort. We love sushi and have gone ot many different places and gotten much more rice for a lot less. Then they had a special on gift cards where you get a $30 for $25 and my husband thought it would be a great way to save a little on our dinner but they won't let you use it until the day after you buy it! Well since we already bought the gift card, we tried ordering delivery with the gift card and the cheapskates don't use gift cards on delivery orders. I will not be going back anytime soon. The food is mediocre for what you pay and the portion sizes are childlike. read more
