Started out fine. let cashier know that my sister needed the gluten free rice noodle. when we got our food, we all started eating, until the server let us know that she gave my sister the wrong noodles, and that they were actually the normal noodles. I liked out the bottom had a nice sear to them. I was trying to save some for later but they were that good. I ended up getting tonkotsu ramen with the chili oil on the side. I was nervous about the chill oil being to spicy but it wasn't. I ended up adding all of it into my ramen. The pork was really good, it was full of flavor and the egg of course was also really good. The only thing I didn't like was the ginger inside of the ramen. I am a ginger fan but I think that it over powered the ramen in my opinion if you ended up getting a bite of it. What a wonderful and unexpected find in small town Wisconsin. I was passing through in my motorcycle and wanted to grab dinner but it was getting "late" and not too many places were open till 9. A quick survey of the area revealed Matsumoto Ramen House and I figured what the heck, I could run a train on some ramen. I was greeted by one of the owners who tells me she grew up in Japan, so she knows what she's doing! Not my first ramen rodeo but I asked for a rundown on the menu and was given the gist of everything they had. I went with the Tonkatsu Black Ramen, the black being black garlic. I also got a Sapporo because when in Rome.. The food was great, the beer was great, the service was great. It's a decently sized place with a bright and clean dining area. I prefer ramen with chewier texture, but it's not a big deal. It's just a preference. The soup was authentic. The server was very polite and I could have tipped more. Overall, my experience was great. I will definitely come back if Army sends me back to Fort McCoy. Their price is reasonable; not as bad as big cities like Dallas, Chicago, or LA. Stopped for dinner in route from Rochester, MN to Madison, WI. It was well worth it and I'll be back. It's just a couple of minutes off of I-90 and easy to find in downtown Sparta, which parking at the front door. It's very clean with a nicely designed decor, lots of light, and great food and service. You order at the counter and it's quickly brought to your table. The menu is short, but not too short, and it all looks great. I had the Tantanmen for a main and coffee Mochi for dessert. The Tantanmen was hot, flavorful, and fresh. It has a slightly creamier broth, which I had not had before in a ramen bowl, which is why I tried it. I'd have it again, but there are other things on the menu I want to try. You will order at the counter and then go find your seat where they will bring your food to you. We have had Ramen/noodle bowls in many different states and I am HAPPY to say that Matsumoto Ramen House was in our top three!! Presentation was beautiful, taste was authentic and delicious and portions were generous... You will definitely leave with a full and happy tummy. This was a nice little surprise to find in Sparta. It's just a small little storefront with a few tables and counter seating, but the food was wonderful. The service was also great. I had Tonkatsu, which is creamy pork broth with braised pork belly, egg, mushroom, green onion and ginger made with black garlic oil. I also had spicy beef dumplings which were not quite I was expecting from a dumpling. The beef is ground, but they were still tasty.
