My son and I stopped here during our camping trip to Merrick State Park in WI, because he wanted to try sushi and it was the closest one to where we were. We went for lunch and only were able to order off of the lunch menu, but it was enough for him to try a few things. We had gyoza, edamame, a spicy tuna roll, salmon avocado roll and miso soup. All were very good and service was good. Prices were pretty reasonable. We went Friday during lunch and it wasn't very busy, so we didn't have to wait long. My only suggestion would have been to have the appetizers before the sushi because it came all at once, but overall it was good. read more

Absolutely excellent. Hard to find great sushi in the Midwest but this place delivers. Excellent plating, even better quality seafood. We had an Alaskan Roll, Spicy Tuna Roll, Shrimp Tempura, and a Volcano roll. All were phenomenal. Also, it's run by a family and you get an excellent local feel! read more

The restaurant is a family affair, with 3 generations inside. The kids have a great play area set up and I saw a customer's daughter playing with them, which is a bonus if your baby sitter cancels and you want a date night. Really decent Japanese eatery. We had a kid hibachi chicken that had chicken, rice, and vegetables, a few nigiri that were fresh, and a great portion of the katsu that was super crispy. The establishment is also VERY kid friendly. Thank you Miya Japanese for another wonderful meal. I picked up 2 hibachi dinners tonight from Miya Japanese bistro. They had both meals packaged perfectly for the trip home. Both dinners included salad (love that salad dressing), hot soup (perfect for a chilly night) and fried rice with our choice of protein. I stuck with veggies only. Done perfectly. Mark had the shrimp/chicken combination; also delicious and perfectly prepared. I had lunch at Miya Japanese bistro today and the service was outstanding. I really like the space, which is clean and ample. The servers are prompt and polite and the food is good. I went at a time when I wasn't very hungry and I asked for a box to go for the remainder of my meal. The owner was concerned that I may not have liked the food and offered to give me the meal. Her gesture was unexpectedly courteous. It is indicative of the whole experience, which was very pleasant and customer oriented. I look forward to dining here again when I am hungrier. Nice service & good food... wasn't a planned stop but since the other places on my "list" are closed on Sunday, we ended up there. Seemed busy but we didn't feel rushed at all. Hard to find good Sushi in this area. Not a ton of options, but the cooked dish (deep fried, crunchy, etc.) is pretty good. The sauce is complimentary. The atmosphere is small town, which was awesome! The owners toddler ran around greeting patrons and helping. Not for a super romantic date in my opinion, but a fun loving date would be a good start here. Sushi is always a fun experience. I got the calamari (I don't recommend but I'm a calamari snob), the spicy salmon roll, the spicy tuna roll, and yellowtail sushi. The last three were good. read more

This was a newer restaurant that we wanted to try out during our stay in Winona. Glad we did! This is a family run place with parents, children, grandparents and the whole family involved. Loved the ambience with the wood plank walls and decorations, even better was the presentation of the food. We ordered some Sashimi and Nigiri a la carte and the presentation blew us away. The quality of the food was really good. We ordered Miso soup to start, followed by our Sashimi (Hamachi, Maguro, Sake, Toro) and Nigiri (Unagi and Saba) combination and cleansed the palate with some Green Tea ice cream. If you are looking for a great dine-in Japanese bistro, this is the place in Winona. They offer many different styles of Japanese foods beyond traditional Sashimi, Nigiri and Sushi. read more

The food was great don't get me wrong! We walked in and we were told to seat ourselves. We sat down and were told the server is running late and will be in shortly, that he had to finish making food for the other customer. We waited about 30 min before getting our drink order taken, as there was only 1 person working. Finally the waitress arrived and proceeded to feed her 2 hungry children before taking the orders of the paying customers. The restuarant is nice and spacious, the wait staff is helpful and efficient. The menu is very diverse. The onion soup is wonderful, along with the miso soup. The few sushi rolls I have had have been very very good, the scallop hibachi is definitely my favorite hibachi option that I have tried. And the pork katsu was fantastic, it was my first time having it and I loved it. I wish there was ramen options. That would be to die for. All in all I'm very impressed with this little bistro and look forward to exploring the menu. read more

Always the first restaurant we go to when we get back to Winona! Great food, great ambiance, and the owner always stops for a chat and gets to know the people there. I'm struggling to understand the high ratings I'm seeing for this restaurant. I've eaten in sushi restaurants all over Europe, Japan, and the U.S. We even have a close friend who's a trained sushi chef and makes fabulous platters at our house, so I know sushi. This is the worst I've had, by far. The miso soup tasted both weird and incredibly bland. Miso soup is usually about the same everywhere, so I'm not sure what this place does differently. The shrimp tempura roll was decent. However, the spicy tuna roll and the spicy snow crab roll were both awful, and basically indistinguishable from one another. Instead of pieces of fish (like every other piece of sushi we've ever had anywhere), these featured pink mush. Fish mush. Yuk! I'm guessing the fish is ground up for some reason? It was like eating the spam version of sushi. The only reason I gave the restaurant 2 stars is because the waitress was very pleasant, organized, and efficient, and the decor was really nice. I will say that this is our first time eating sushi in Minnesota, so maybe the ground-up fish mush is how it's done here? Hope not! read more
