The steak was extremely generous for a breakfast steak, thick and cooked to a perfect mid rare. Nice over medium eggs and tasty hash browns. Even the sourdough toast was perfect. I do have to say that this place has some good food. The French toast is ridiculous!!! Get one piece not two. It is ginormous. So, the layout of this place isn't the best. It gets super busy and it gets busy fast. There isn't seating inside so you can wait. They do not take your number to notify you. So if you are waiting outside because the inside is full, you might be SOL. The hostess was a teenager or a woman in her early 20s. She seemed as if we were bothering her even though we were super polite. Our waitress was absolutely amazing. I didn't get her name, but she was absolutely amazing. We had great service and the food was good. They give large portions, especially the pancakes. The restaurant itself is cozy and I really enjoy the ambiance. The only downside is they charge California prices for their food here, and this is coming from someone who lives there. The service was pretty good. The inside is dark. We were sitting in a closed patio area. It was freezing cold in there. We thought it was just us, but another group had complained to the waitress that it was cold as well and to turn the heat up. The waitress stated she was unable to do that. The food was only ok for me. If you love to eat food that is soaked in bacon grease, this is the breakfast joint for you. I can't have milk or dairy due to anaphylaxis allergies. I ordered bacon, eggs, and hashbrowns. That was the greasiest breakfast I have ever had. I read other reviews stating it was a lot of food. I left hungry. My wife got the salmon eggs Benedict and enjoyed that. The red cabbage that came with hers was sautéed in bacon grease. She wasn't a fan of that. We found a small piece of wire in the food. My wife was chewing and felt something hard so she spit it out and it was a small thin wire. She could have swallowed it and it would have been a very serious issue. We brought it up to our waiter who was very apologetic and took the plate to show his manager, but the manager never came over to talk to us. We were a bit turned off from eating more after that and probably won't be back. Before that happened the service was great and the food was incredible, the restaurant was really cute. Huge bummer. Our server,Delaney, was attentive and fun even tho she was alone (it was her day off but was called in because fellow worker(s) called in sick. Kids!) I'm not a breakfast eater but hubby loves it. I opted for the most unusual thing on the menu, the Captain Crunch encrusted French toast with bananas and buttermilk syrup. It was delightful, a sugar bomb, but really good. I should have ordered bacon or something to counter balance the sweetness. Oh, and the 50's music was fantastic. I was excited to see they offered fresh squeezed orange juice (so yummy) and we ordered the chicken and waffles, and steak and eggs. My husband also ordered a side of biscuits and gravy. All of the food was cooked well, and made fresh. We appreciated the home cooked vibe and had no complaints about the food. We waited to be seated. No employee in sight. One table with 2 people seated in a booth when we arrived. 2 more couples arrived after us. Our order was 2 sandwiches and a burger. We waited 30 minutes for our food to be delivered to table. My order a burger came out first and it was the wrong burger. My daughter had a biscuit and gravy and couldn't eat it because the gravy was so bad. My husband had a chicken waffle. We had high expectations after reading the reviews, but this is a place we would never go again--and it wasn't a one-off/bad-day type of experience, either. The space is dark and cramped. I could barely scoot my chair back to get in, and it was like that everywhere. Partly because of this crowding, it was loud. I can't even grant it diner status, unfortunately. It was bland, overcooked or undercooked, and visually unappealing. My biggest question is about the liquid "butter" that drenched the waffles--why? It tasted like someone liquified a butter that you spray onto a pan, it was so bland and fake. Our waitress had mentioned clarified butter, but this was nothing like the rich, nutty clarified butters I've experienced.
