Automatically I felt comfortable as I was approaching the hot dog stand because Susie was getting something from her truck, saw me, and immediately smiled at me. Before we exchanged words, she complimented on my boots! That alone was enough excitement and anticipation for me. Before me I saw what was offered: apple chicken sausage, pineapple sausage, and to the left a "combo" menu w/ the following- #1 Special - Jumbo dog, a soda, and a bag of chips #2 Special - Polish sausage, a soda, and a bag of chips #3 Special - Hot Link, a soda, and a bag of chips #4 Special - Regular hot dog w/ a soda and a bag of chips All of the combo meals were $6 but my hot link cost me $4.75. Toppings and condiments looked clean, sanitized, and very fresh. She had mustard, brown mustard, onions, jalapenos, relish, mayonnaise, BBQ sauce, and ketchup. All of the fresh items were sealed tightly in labeled containers and were quickly tended to after use - yes, I noticed that because I am ServSafe certified! I ordered the hot link and piled on - brown mustard, mustard, onions, relish, and jalapenos; that is right.. no ketchup!!! The first bite was satisfying because a) I was hungry, b) Susie is a very pleasant woman to talk to, c) I love street food (I ate right there!), and d) the link wasn't spicy but it was grilled to perfection and I love the roll she served it in. It was no ordinary hot dog bun... I ate that thing faster than you could read this review. This was totally serendipity because I had to go to the bank to give my colleague $$ for a box of Hostess Twinkies AND I stopped by eBay on First St. for Melts My Heart food truck [I was in the mood for a bacon grilled cheese sandwich] but I did not read the Twitter thing and realized after I got there that they are at the other eBay location in Campbell, not in San Jose. Susie has been slinging dogs here for years ... to corporate types, tractor trailer drivers, Fedex boyz and girlz, random drive-bys, ... you name it and they stop here, from far and wide. What you see is what you get ... giant jumbo hot dogs, perfect Polish, hella hot links, savory sausage, bodacious Brats ... all served on a huge sesame hot dog roll with all the fresh condiments you could ask for ... relish, ketchup, hot sauce, yellow and spicy brown (Guilden's ... my fav) mustards, fresh chopped white onion, minced jalapenos, diced fresh tomatoes ... help yourself, all you can top your wiener with ... mmmm, mmmm, mmmm. Cold sodas and waters of every kind rest in two large thermos coolers buried in ice, Chips are right there for the taking (Lay's, Fritos, Cheetos, Doritos [Cool Ranch, Salsa Verde, Nacho Cheese]) ... excellent selection Tube steaks of all varieties are steamed to perfection and delivered to patrons on a bun wrapped in foil should you need to make this stop on a 'to-go' basis ... but we generally enjoy the sunshine, dining elegantly right there on the sidewalk, rapping with Susie on all sorts of topics, and with fellow vagabonds who have ventured here for their mystery meat fix as well. "Susie's Special" ... dog / soda / bag o' chips ... $6.00 ... a great buy given her jumbo dogs are a full quarter pound of ... well ..., who the hell knows of 'what', it's a hot dog ... LOL! It doesn't get any better than this, sports fans ... animal fat / sodium / nitrates / carbs / high fructose corn syrup ... Luncheon of Champions!!! Always a smile on this woman's face ... Susie is a ray of sunshine for us dungeon-dwellers of Corporate America ... a real joy to meet and greet. She's been setting up shop at this location for what seems forever, having started her business roughly five years ago ... she's there Monday through Friday 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Infinitely better than Surf Doggie's down the street on Junction just past the Post Office, IMHO. I just get the sense that Susie's rotation is vastly better than Surf Doggie's ... if you get my drift ..., following some gastroenterological adventures enjoyed with Surf Doggie's dogs ... ;-)) Heartily recommended for you famished wanderers roaming the barren wasteland of lunch-time eateries in this particular section of Silicon Valley. Tried this hotdog stand and although I had a feeling I was going to be disappointed, tried it anyway. Disappointed indeed. First, the Polish dog was bland, no flavor (I guess that's to be expected when it just sits boiling in water for who knows how long although I was there at 9:45am. do it couldn't have been there that long) For a $6 dollar Costco Polish dog, it was pretty steep price. Wouldn't have minded the prices if it tasted good. The owner sat inside her vehicle which was right in front of her cart (*not very welcoming if you ask me) when I came up. She got out of her car to help me but left her door wide open which left me about a foot of room to look at her menu. When I left, another customer came up and I watched as she grabbed another dog out of her cooler which was in back of her truck with her bare hands. She just took my money, didn't wash her hands and with no gloves, grabbed another dog to serve to a customer. read more
