Loved this place! Had the absolute best flavors in the city and we deemed it our favorite! Service was great and fast and this is a pretty popular spot in the city. Environment was nice. Limited seating but there are beautiful places in the area to sit and enjoy. Can't wait to come back here!
Wow! I can see why this gelato place is so popular. The flavors are so unique and rich. We went back twice! First time I got the sesame fig and it was delicious. The sesame flavor is very light almost masked by the fig, but the fig flavor brings out such a natural sweetness and I really enjoyed it. Second time I got the yogurt passion fruit. If you like tart Vietnamese yogurt, it has that essence. It was tart fruity and overall refreshing.
Had the hazelnut ice cream per a friend's recommendation and it was excellent. Be prepared to stand in a long line. I was lucky and went earlier in the day so the line was relatively short. Staff was very friendly and quick to serve. The shop is pretty small and only fits a few people at a time so be ready to go in and out quickly. They have a QR code to link to the menu so you can see the options while waiting in line. I really liked the edible cup and both cup or cone options come with the cookie on top.
We tried Gelatoteca Suso on a recent trip to Europe and it was perhaps the best shop we visited! I was concerned that the hype would make a visit less enjoyable but the inhouse special flavors, thoughtful ambiance and efficient friendly service made the entire experience top notch! I got the best combination of Suso (double caramel with an infusion of toffee) and Bagigi peanut (pb cream filled with salted peanuts dipped in salted caramel). It was pure heaven!! The best way to celebrate the close of a hot Venetian day!
There are many culinary musts when in Italy like getting amazing pizza and pasta, but not many are absolute needs like gelato. On a hot day in Venice, there are few better ways to cool off than by stopping by Suso for some of the best gelato you can possibly find. The line was long in the busy little alley in front but went by fast as the service was quick to match. I got a marostica cone which is pistachio gelato with almonds and Amarena cherries. It was rich, creamy, and made absolutely fresh. An absolute highlight of visiting Venice and a must stop on a sunny or cloudy day alike.
Seeing this all over socials I thought it was going to be all hype. Its not. They have a great variety of flavors with a good mixture being traditional and more artisanal. I'm more traditional with my choices with my favorites being pistachio and lemon. But on one trip (yes there were many trips here) I notices one called sepa. It's a lemon/chocolate mixture of some sort. OMFG I've dreamed about it everyday since I've been back in the states. I wish Suso would open here.
**Review for Gelatoteca Suso** Rating: While vacationing in Venice during the hottest time of the year, I desperately needed something to cool me off. I stumbled upon Gelatoteca Suso and decided to treat myself to some creamy gelato. I went with the Opera gelato on a recommendation and it did not disappoint. The flavor was reminiscent of a Ferrero Rocher--rich, nutty, and utterly delicious. Did it actually cool me off in this sweltering heat? Not really, but it was tasty :) I'll definitely be stopping by again before I head to my next destination in Europe. If you're in Venice, Gelatoteca Suso is a must-try for any gelato lover! Welp...onto the next!
Found this amazing gelato spot thanks to Yelp. Place was very cool, great flavor selections. Staff moved long lines in an orderly fashion. Gelato was nicely displayed. Most importantly perhaps, it tasted fantastic. I'm putting this review in a few weeks after having it but I still remember the quality of the pistachio and chocolate flavors. Truly excellent!
Suso is probably the most instagram famous gelato spot in Venice so expect a line, but they do move quickly and the unique flavors are quite worth it. You can look up the flavors on their website (qr code posted right outside the shop) before you get to the front of the line to help keep it moving. I chose maybe an incompatible flavor combo- one scoop Suso (toffee/caramel) and one scoop cheescake without really thinking that they would eventually blend together, so if I ever go back I would try to choose flavors that work better together. That being said- the actual gelato was great, very creamy and delicious. There is not really anywhere nearby to sit and enjoy it though, you have to get it to go and eat while walking.

This gelato was amazing. This was my first gelato in Italy and I was in awe. They stick carmel and chocolate in to the flavors. I had tiramisu, cappuccino and cheesecake. read more

The quality of gelati we tried in Venice was consistent with that of Rome. However, the pricing was different. The smallest serving we had in Rome was 2€ for 1-2 flavors. In Venice, it was 1,60€ but for only one flavor, with the price jumping to 2€ for special concoctions. For two flavors, we had to go with the next serving size which was pegged at 3€. Suso Gelatoteca had the most reviews on Yelp so I had it bookmarked before we left for Italy. I knew there was a realistic chance that we would be able to hit this place up since it is near Ponte di Rialto - a perfect stop from Piazza San Marco on the way back to the bus station at Piazzale Roma. The gelateria had a to-go counter, which meant there were no chairs nor tables inside. My wife and daughters had other plans so I was the only one who bought gelati here. I went with two flavors - Suso and Fidelio. The banner flavor was a combination of toffee and caramel with a good deal of toffee pieces and caramel swirls. Since toffee involves caramelizing sugar or molasses, there really was plenty of caramel flavor to enjoy here. Fidelio was made of dark chocolate gelato with dark chocolate chips and mandarin orange bits. It's a special flavor and rightfully so with that much rich dark chocolate involved. Hence, total price had an additional 0,40€. With chocolate that bold and sweet mandarin fragments to boot, it was well worth the surcharge. Despite the higher pricing of gelati in Venice than in Rome, it was easy to give this gelateria the full merit. Choose between a waffle cone or a wafer cup (yeah, an edible cup) then add a scoop or two of their extra-creamy and delicious gelati. Not only that, they literally top it off with a thin, round waffle crisp bearing its name - free of charge! Proudly Venetian using the best natural ingredients with a full deck of unique and regular flavors to choose from... I say a must-add to one's itinerary! read more
Beat the Venice heat by grabbing some gelato at this small yet quite popular place!! I walked past many gelato shops, and this was the only one I saw with a line out the door. There are at least 20 flavors to choose from, and you can choose either a wafer cup or waffle cone. For ,90€ more, you can get a chocolate or sprinkled waffle cone. I tried three different flavors. Straciatella - Not too sweet but very rich and creamy. There were huge chocolate chunks in this. I recommend this for anyone who likes vanilla but wants to try something slightly different and perhaps more decadent. Pistachio - I didn't like this one as much, and I thought that it could have been creamier with a stronger essence of pistachio. It was still a good flavor though, not too sweet. Watermelon - This was my favorite of the three. It was such a hot day that a light, fruity watermelon sorbet was the best thing to refresh my energy with! I usually stay away from watermelon ice creams because they tend to be too watery or icy but this place got the texture just right. They managed to maintain the slightly creamy texture while also having that light fruity watermelon taste. Overall, this place was a great find for a hot summer day in Venice! read more

Once again I am in debt to Yelp for steering me here. . .although from the massive line it's clear that the word is put on this place. Prices are the best I have seen on Venice. Variety is superb. The taste? Oh my! Fantastically creamy and delicious. My only criticism is that they need to add English to their flavor signs so foreigners can get a little note adventurous and try things that we don't recognize. Easy fix! read more

All kinds of delicious flavors and they even have dairy free options for the vegans or lactose-intolerants. Another perk is the gelatos look so darn lovely- picture perfect everytime! read more

Went to this gelato spot after seeing it on a "best gelato in the world" list. I ordered the small gelato in chocolate with a waffle cup. Service was friendly and quick. I wouldn't call this the best gelato though; I was in Europe for some time a tasted great gelato. This was good with pieces of milk chocolate within the gelato. It was empty when we went in but I know this might get a bit packed during peak season. There are no chairs or seating within the place. It is situated in an okay location, close to all the shops... but Venice is very small to begin with. read more

yum gelato place, it is popular so be prepared to wait in line. It is a small place so it can get tight in there especially when people stop to take photos. It was creamy and I should say reasonably priced for the area. They had a good range of flavors that I haven't really seen in a gelato place. I tried Suso after walking passed the store and saw a crowd inside. I checked Yelp and the reviews were good so I decided to give them a try after my first gelato experience in Italy was not mind-blowing (at a different establishment). Needless to say, Suso's gelatos were delicious and their flavors were rich. I went back the following day and got myself a bigger cone. read more

I decided to try this place based on the yelp reviews. There was a line out the door, so I assumed it would be good. The people at the counter were a bit rude and seemed annoyed by our presence in there store. The gelato was ok but I checked my receipt and I was charged for an extra double scoop. I wouldn't recommend this place personally but it was ok. read more
So I had spent the week so far indulging in hazelnut, chocolate, pistachio gelato. In Venice I wanted something a little different....something light, something refreshing.... And then I saw the brightly colored mango gelato. Oh my, there aren't many words to describe how fantastic this gelato is. The first night I got a single scoop of the mango. The 2nd night I ordered up mango and vanilla. Holy cannoli. Mango + vanilla gelato = heaven. Ya know, if heaven was in the form of a frozen treat. Price for a single was around €1,60. Two scoops was about a euro more and no matter the size your gelato is served in a waffle cup! Staff was super sweet too and the location isn't that hard to find once you get to the Rialto Bridge. No matter where you're staying in Venice - find this gelato joint. You won't be disappointed! read more

Overrated! I stopped by to try this place because of the high ratings but were disappointed. The gelato was too sweet. If you are used to the sweetness level of desert in the USA, you may like this place but for me it's just too sweet. I prefer the sweetness level of the gelato in other places in Italy like Milan. They are not very sweet and still allow me to enjoy the actual flavour of the gelato. The texture of the gelato here was also not as smooth as the various gelato places I had in Milan. read more
We came here twice in the same day, because that's how much hubs liked the gelato lol. I think I got the mango and the passionfruit. Loved the mango, although I was not a huge fan of the passionfruit. My husband actually quite enjoyed it and said that it was very strong. He tends to get the coffee flavors, and they were pretty good as well. Definitely worth a stop (or two)! read more

Best gelato in Venice! (In my opinion) While visiting I did some research and found Suso on Yelp. When we arrived there was a line out the door but surprisingly, the line moved extremely fast. The workers were all so nice and spoke English very well. I had a scoop of their caffe espresso and the strawberry cheesecake. It was AMAZING. The flavors were delicious and the gelato was perfectly creamy. The price is definitely more compared to other places but it was totally worth it. read more

I went here for the first time about a month ago. LOCATION: It's pretty close to Rialto Bridge, and not too far of a walking distance from a lot of other main city sights, which makes it easy and convenient to get to. 3/5 ATMOSPHERE: Well it's a small gelato shop, and there's not seating inside, so you've just gotta take what you get and go. But it's fairly clean inside and not cheesy looking or off-putting. 3/5 SELECTION: It's a gelato shop, so they have gelato, and I think maybe a few other desserts and drinks. I like that they have a few vegan options, including a cup cone that's vegan, and a special vegan and gluten-free cone (it's extra for that one though). 4/5 WHAT I GOT: I got the vegan chocolate flavor in the cup cone. It was pretty good, but my one complaint would be that it was almost a little too dark of chocolate, like it was slightly too bitter. But, I still ate it all and it was still pretty good in my opinion -- just not my favorite. The cup cone tasted as predicted -- like a normal cake cone, and I wish I would've gotten the special vegan and gluten-free cone instead. 3/5 SERVICE: The service was good. The employee who helped us was very knowledgeable and helpful in showing us the vegan flavor and cone options. And, she even put a small sample of another vegan flavor on top of two of ours without even asking. 4/5 read more
I was highly disappointed. After much research, it seemed Suso had the best gelato in Venice. I went and ordered the Manet flavor - hazelnut with pistachio swirl. The staff was extremely rude despite it not being crowded. The gelato was bland and had no flavor. It was like licking an ice cube. It was also very expensive, but I had no choice but to throw it away. I didn't want to waste a meal on terrible gelato when Venice has much tastier food! read more

When we got here there was a line out the door and we soon realized why. The gelato is delicious and creamy. It was the perfect treat to help cool us off and indulge on a hot humid day. They have a large selection of flavors to choose from. I loved the tiramisu flavor and highly recommend it. read more

Best Gelato I've ever had in my entire life!!! Not an exaggeration!! I've studied abroad in Italy and tried many gelato places over the course but hands down this is the best I've ever had. I've been to northern Italian cities, southern, you name it. Nothing has compared. There are lines out the door for this place. The staff is very friendly and Yesssss they let you have free samples to see which flavors you want. FYI The flavors change based on what they whip that day. I'm literally still reminiscing about their strawberry cheesecake and "marostica" (pistachio with something else amazing). Only thing I'd say it was a little hard to find in the alley when we first went, even with our GPS, but don't let that sway you away, just ask around and you'll get there!! read more

I came here based on a recommendation from a friend and was definitely not disappointed! It is a touristy place which might make you doubt its authenticity, but do not pass this place up even if it has a line. It is definitely worth it! This was hands down my favorite gelato shop in all of Italy. I think I came here every day for the duration of my stay in Venice. Sometimes even twice in a day. I loved their Suso flavor and could not find anything like it elsewhere. If I ever come back to Venice, I will for sure be making a pit stop (or maybe multiple) here! read more

Wonderful true to name flavors + light airy creamy texture! Flavors: -hazelnut (nocciola): nutty goodness -pistachio: more nutty goodness -caramel: on the sweeter side with actual caramel swirls inside -frutti di bosco: mixed berry flavor with crunchy pips of the berries still swirled in- loved that. Great to pair with a nutty or heavier chocolate to cleanse the palate Service: professional, fast Space: teeny tiny space- pop in pop out type of thing Price: comparable with all other gelato places around Coming back for the nut flavors and frutti di Bosco! read more
Gelato, I love you! We visited here both nights we were in Venice and absolutely loved it. Their suso flavor is to die for! Two scoops of gelato costs around 3.70 and you can get a full three scoops for under 5 euros. They accept card, but only for purchases over 15 euros. They are also open late for your post dinner dessert! read more

Finally a gelato place that offers vegan options that are NOT sorbet. I opted for a delicious rice milk cherry flavor...smooth and oh so creamy! I tried their dark chocolate (rich but not too rich) and the sorbet flavor they had (strawberry dark chocolate ) tasted NOTHING like the usual sorbet. Definitely coming back! read more

My husband and I went here in the middle of the day in mid July. It was pretty busy, so make sure to look up the flavors you want online before getting to the front of the line. We got our gelato and paid pretty quickly. Make sure you take your pictures and eat it quickly because it melts fast. The gelato is both visually appealing and delicious. This is a must stop on your trip to Venice! read more

Best Gelateria in San Marco! We bumped into this place by accident last year and noticed it only because of a long queue in front of this small place. Definitely try the Manet flavor which is hazelnut (Reminded me of Nutella) embraced by a thick layer of salty pistachio crema! Simply heaven! A great flavor is also Notte Nera - Raspberry sorbet and dark chocolate. For 70 Cents extra, your gelato is served in a very black charcoal come! We came her two years in a row and ate their gelato multiple times a day because we wanted to try more and more flavors! Give it a shot, you won't be disappointed! read more

It's only been several months, but there's many times I find my brain straying back to the hazelnut chocolate gelato I scarfed at Suso. I stayed a little under a week in Venice, but every day - without fail - I found myself back at Suso. This place is tucked away in a tunnel of shoppes not far from Ponte di Rialto. That means the crowds can deliver and I saw midday lines weaving well out of the store. It's not a large gelateria, but the selection is complete. I noticed a lot of little gelato shops in Venezia seemed to carry the same selection, almost like one main supplier stocks the entire city. However, the gelato at Suso was wholly unlike the majority of other shops I encountered and several tiers higher in quality. As for flavours, the Opera has my heart. It's a thick, custardy pastry cream with veins of Nutella-esque chocolate running through it. It's an experience. It's always hard making the tart/fruity vs. deep/cocoa choice, but you can't go wrong with either (or just get two?). Other great flavours include the Fidelio (true, deep dark chocolate with mandarin - it's like a Terry's Chocolate Orange, but better), limone (tart and super refreshing on a swampy summer day), fragola (true strawberry), crema del doge (like the Opera, but less heavy), Suso (toffee! caramel! together!), and the dark chocolate (I have never had gelato that dark). I'm sure the flavours I didn't sample were equally amazing. All, of course, come topped with a little waffle-cone rosette bearing the Suso logo. Definitely on my repeat hit list the next time I'm lucky enough to stop by Venice. read more
