The cake was not only beautiful it tasted lovely. The lemon was fresh bold and pleasant. The raspberry filling, there were two. I'm no chef or baker so I'll describe them as a raspberry compote and a raspberry buttercream filling. Whatever they were, they tasted fresh, not too sweet and they matched the lemon well. Loved loved loved Sussy's Cakes! It was 2-3 months before the wedding and the groom and I had not made any concrete decisions about the cake (should we do specialty cupcakes? Go big? Use flour alternatives? Chocolate?). Luckily, a friend referred us to Suzzy's Cakes. Upon our first meeting, Susanna had several cakes and fillings ready for us to try as she knew we were undecided on flavor. She had both the regular flavors - dark chocolate, red velvet, vanilla - as well as bolder flavors such as dulce de leche, guava, blood orange, and passion fruit available so that she could gauge which direction we wanted to go with . From there, she patiently listened to us describe our ideas for the cake and wedding and she provided several suggestions based on her expertise. Not once did I feel like she was trying to upsell her products. As a matter of fact, upon seeing my bridesmaids dresses, she suggested adding flowers to match the pattern of the dresses, and it turned out great. She even incorporated a ruffle design which I found online the day of our meeting and wanted to incorporate into my cake. Mind you, my wedding was in August and even though we had made the request within such a short time span, she didn't seem bothered at all by the time crunch and made it work around her pre-existing orders from other clients. However, I don't suggest you push it like we did - we might have been saved by the grace of the referral. The wedding was in MD and despite the extraordinary traffic from VA/DC to MD that day, she arrived with the cake within the vendor set-up time period. Highly recommend! Oh, and the cake was both beautiful and delicious. We ended up going with chocolate layers separated by dulce de leche filing. read more

Susana is awesome! I booked with her for a kid's birthday cake only 6 days before our event and it was around new year. And she made it. I just sent her a picture from Pinterest and the cake come out just beautiful. We had a very tight schedule in the morning of the event and we were already running late for picking up the cake, so I had no plan B for a failed one.
