Valter and his crew finished our driveway yesterday, and I'm blown away by both the quality and the service. Reviewing the quality is easy: it's seriously top notch. Looks great, and given all the things we compared it to and how the installation was done, it'll last, and probably be more durable than similar work from competitors. The efficiency with which these guys work once they arrive is mind-blowing, and the whole house looks better. No qualms there. The service is where this company seriously stands out. Their bid came in way lower than anyone else. When we asked why, the answer was basically "I make good money, my guys get paid well, so I don't see a reason to mark it up any more. Might as well help people out." I really got the feeling that it wasn't an act. They're happy to take extra time to explore every option, and aren't pushy at all. After leaving a message with Valter, he called me back promptly the following day. He made arrangements to meet with my current contractor to go over the paver project we had in mind. Valter made suggestions and is working on a design and price quote for the project. He sounded knowledgeable and flexible. We will see what the future holds for us as a team. I will update when we finalize. Final project complete 3/29/18: I am happy with the end result but what a roller coaster getting there. The work was obviously subbed out from this company to another crew for at least the flat work. Let's just start with the things that I found wrong and had to correct throughout the project: too high of grade, giant humps in the pavers, trying to cut corners around patio posts, seating area dimensions incorrect multiple times, light pillar leaning multiple times, edges of steps showing grey concrete instead of pavers, conduit installed incorrectly, instructions not followed, pattern incorrect, pavers not sanded enough, piles of sand on top of other pavers, boarder matching up to existing sidewalk too high causing trip hazard, crew members leaving their personal trash all over my yard... the list goes on. As for Valter, the owner, he is very nice but not a good project manager. He was not present much during the install which I believe led to many of the issues. When paying tens of thousands of dollars for construction work, homeowners should not be finding all of these mistakes and telling the workers not to use there house as their personal trash can. I would not recommend this company. read more

We met Valter and Chad at the Westlake Village home show. We got a number of quotes, and Sustainable Solutions was (a) the most competitive bid we got, and (b) had some of the nicest work out of all the examples we saw. Our project was to demolish an existing concrete pathway in a 22x20 courtyard, dig up 3 large tree stumps, regrade the entire space, and finally lay down foundation and pavers. They added the wet-look sealer to keep it protected for years to come. Some key things that made these guys shine: 1) They were always around and kept providing thoughts on design choices. Much appreciated, since they have the experience. 2) They are nice! Genuinely nice people that enjoy what they do, and enjoy getting to know their clients. They live, and focus their business in the Thousand Oaks / Westlake / Agoura area, so they really treat you like neighbors. 3) While it was amazing how fast they dug up the courtyard (1 day!), they didn't just rush to get it done and then leave. The bulk of the work was completed in 2 days, but the sealer required perfectly dry pavers and it took 3-4 days for the moisture underneath to fully evaporate. Chad kept coming back every day to check on it, and only put the sealer on when he was confident the pavers were ready. 4) They helped with other odd jobs that had nothing to do with the pavers. For example, since the ground was dug up, it seemed convenient to reroute some unsightly cables that were strung up along the underside of the roof. Chad brought in a long PVC pipe to use as conduit, buried it in the ground before laying the pavers, and rerouted the cables for us. They also dug up a few extra tree stumps for us in exchange for me picking up lunch for the crew. Great deal! All in all, I highly recommend these guys if you need anything having to do with hardscaping - walls, driveways, pavers, firepits, etc. They do extremely high quality work at a very reasonable price. We plan to use them again for a small wall around some planter areas, to repave our driveway, and eventually to redo our pool area. read more

Sustainable solutions did a great job building a retaining wall in our backyard. Valt took the time when he first came by to go over all the options. He suggested some features which worked out well within our vision. He gave us a quote on the spot which was lower than other companies had suggested. Within days work was started and finished (well within projected time frame). The result is great. Valt seems genuinly interested in doing things the right way. He did not push expensive features but suggested certain details or finishes that we can do later to improve the garden (landscape and hardscape). Several months ago, my wife and I began researching paver companies to replace our existing walkway and driveway. We had several bids from various companies and learned a lot about the business. After calling Sustainable Solutions, Valter promptly returned my call and scheduled an appointment to meet with us. During that appointment, he was prompt, very professional and clearly explained his product. We found Valter to be extremely personable and really liked his business approach. He was not pushy in any way whatsoever. During the bidding process Valter went above and beyond the other companies we met with as he completed a large graphed (to scale) diagram of our home which bore the image of our idea as well as an idea of his own. We ended up choosing his idea as the final design, which we absolutely love. Furthermore, during this process, he did not ask for any deposits or down payments, which other companies were not willing to do. The project was recently completed to our satisfaction and was done so in three days time. The amount of work that went into the project was amazing and I cannot believe it was done so fast. The end product is exactly what we were hoping for. Overall, I would highly recommend Sustainable Solutions as the top choice. As already stated, Valter has a great approach and it is apparent that he really puts his heart and soul into the business. During one of the evenings (in the middle of the project) he stopped by just to see the progress. He stayed a bit and we chatted about things unrelated to our business venture. BRAVO! If there were TEN stars, i would give them. Valter and his crew just finished our GORGEOUS new driveway and patio -- just FIVE days after starting (on time, and on budget). Seriously, I've never had a project go so smoothly. It started with his bid -- very reasonable -- I almost hugged him on the spot. Second. They showed up a couple days later, and demolished my hideous driveway and ugly brick accent in about six hours. Then removed all the rubble -- THAT DAY. Then began grading the new surface and laying the (beautiful) new pavers immediately -- it's day 5 and they're DONE, except for the landscaping. We had an area under a portico with a brick patio that had to be redone. The bricks were not level because of large tree in the center, the roots pushed the bricks out of line. The tree was removed by a contractor and he left part of the stump just below the mulch from the tree. We called SUSTAINABLE SOLUTIONS SERVICES and Valter came to look at the job. He had good ideas about how the work should be done. He suggested: 1) Remove the old bricks and reuse the old bricks. 2) Level and tamp the area, then install a layer of gravel and re-tamp the area. 3) Reinstall the bricks 4) Sweep sand between bricks Valter gave us a price which we accepted. I thought he had explained the work completely and simply. The project was not simple with SUSTAINABLE SOLUTIONS SERVICES because they do more then talk. Our job included removing the stump, a layer of cement for a base for the job, instead of plain sand a material was added to bond everything together and it was graded to run water away from the house. When they laid the bricks, they did not like the concrete holding up the 4x4 supports for portico. They poured additional concrete to level off the cement to even it with the bricks. I expected to hear about the cost of these extras but Valter said they were part of the job. I waited to write this review until it rained. When it rained the water ran off just the way Valter predicted. No puddles during a heavy thunderstorm. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and honesty of SUSTAINABLE SOLUTIONS SERVICES. They delivered more then I expected for the quoted price. I would definitely call them for any future needs and I recommend you do the same. read more
