This was a great place to do business. Test drove a 2014 VW Touareg and loved it. Was headed toward buying it and got a call that it had already been sold when I test drove it the day before. TonyLocurto (one of the owners?), apologized, and said they had another one for sale for $1,000 more, but took it down to the same price as the other one (nice move). Tony was professional, great to work with, very knowledgeable and answered all my questions. I see the other reviews which have been negative, but I had a great experience. I had never met Tony before, and have no affiliation with anyone from Sutherland. If I could give this place zero stars I would. I purchased a car from Sutherland and can say with 100% certainty that it will be my first and last experience with Sutherland. Now, I will admit that my own naivety and lack of knowledge on cars added to this negative experience. But Sutherland happily took advantage of that! I bought a 3.6 4motion VW Passat that was just beautiful. I was able to test drive it for one block but figured that standard so didn't think anything of it. I signed a contract with Sutherland for $27,000 cash and told them I would be back on Monday to pick it up (this was a Tuesday) after picking up the check from my accountant. The gentleman who sold me the car assured me he would have the car cleaned up and ready to go. I arrived Monday to pick up my car and couldn't have been more excited. Handed over the check and couldn't wait to take my new car for a spin. First, I was delivered the blow that the car I was told "was returned by an old woman who said the car was too much for her" was actually brought back to the dealer due to engine trouble. They assured me the engine was totally new and wouldn't be an issue. I know, I should have walked away. But I was a 19 girl who was buying her first car and had no adults in my life to help, was naive and I had just sold my car and had the check cut. It was dumb of me. I reluctantly signed the lemon law release and took my new/lemon car home. I was disappointed to say the least when I noticed on the drive home that the car Had 1300 more miles on it than on the contract i signed!!!! When I called to complain they gave me the run around and said they would "get to the bottom of it". It has been over a year and after many unreturned calls, visits, etc there has been no resolution. Honestly though, it doesn't matter anymore as the car was junked at 25,000 miles after that new engine blew in the mountains of Pennsylvania on one of the scariest drives of my life. The car that I bought with a small inheritance from my deceased father and had figured would give me a nice trade in for my next car, Received a $2000 trade in on a new car for me. I have learned and grown from this experience. My guess is Sutherland is still pulling the same old shit. Buy at your own risk! read more

I went into the dealership and was completely ignored until i went into my car and was about to leave. Then, instead of test driving a car on the road i was told i could drive it in the parking lot only....really? Uhhh, no thanks. There are plenty of other dealerships where i can spend my money. Interesting to see so many negative reviews for this place... I was initially hesitant to do business with them because of it, however after seeing their more balanced reviews on cars.com, I decided to at least check them out. I was in the market for a used luxury sedan and inquired about an Audi they had. Kristen was very helpful over the phone and went over the entire carfax report with me prior to my driving up to Pittsford from the Syracuse area. There was an accident noted (hit a deer), but for crying out loud: these are used cars - ask them to pull a report and check it out before showing up. There was no issue at all about only driving in the parking lot - something about that review doesn't quite add up to me... I suspect there's more to that story. Kristen simply handed me the keys and asked "you know your way around?". I took the car on about a 2 to 3 mile test drive at her suggestion. When I was done testing the car, Kristen took the time reviewing not only the CarFax report, but also printed out the full Audi service history on the vehicle and went over it line by line. I did note two items during the test drive that I had concerns with (brake pulsing and a slight vibration). They corrected the issues and had me once again take the car on a lengthy test drive prior to making a deal, all with great communication during the process. I'm now loving the car. The entire process went very very smoothly, was low pressure, and was about as pleasurable as buying a car can be. The one star I docked was simply because their dealership is split into two locations - a showroom and a shop about a half mile away. 5 stars is for perfection and this set up isn't... but don't let it freak you out. It's more the appearance of annoyance than actually being troublesome. The traffic on Main St. through the town is a bigger deal than the two locations. No, they didn't entice me to write this... in fact, I couldn't get them down the last $500 to the price that I wanted. Doesn't matter - they were straight forward, transparent, and absolutely fine to deal with. Will definitely be on my list of dealers to shop in the future. read more

Great experience buying my 2015 BMW 528 xDrive. I got a fair price and Marlon was terrific to work with. I drove several cars and wanted to buy an Audi A6 until Marlon recommended I try the 528. Wow! The car is like brand new and I love it! The only downside was I didn't find out it was missing a set of keys until I picked it up. Buying a new key was $400. Not intentional just an oversight. Marlon took the time to show me how everything worked and linked my iPhone for me. I would definitely buy another car from Marlon! read more

Poor customer service. Kristen (manager), as another reviewer stated, offers to let you drive the car in the parking lot. Really? They also state they do not negotiate prices. Really? What makes Sutherland more special than any other used dealership in Rochester? As far as the service goes: supervising mechanic told me he would call me back with a price on a repair job he was supposed to start, but never did. I even prompted him with a follow up call to no avail. Also, while discussing the planned repair, he proceeded to chew massive amounts of food while trying to hold a conversation. Summary: unprofessional. They don't deserve your money. It seems the repair staff are highly competent, but the managers are...well....not too classy. read more

Poor customer service.Sutherland had a car i was very interested in and drove out to test drive it. The salesman, Marlon reluctantly let me. When i was done he offered me a ridiculously low amount for my trade in ($2000 less than KBB). I understand that its a business and the want to make money but come on. The entire time i was dealing with Marlon i got the feeling that he didn't want to sell me a car or that me being there was an annoyance to him. The "Dealership" (which i believe is a converted gas station really makes you think of every negative stereotype car salesman cliche in the book. First of all they sell cars with damage history (Beware). I specifically said I dont want a car with damage history. They showed me a car which looked great but had accident history when it was used as a loaner by BMW. So they deceived me by saying the carfax report is clean since car did not had title on it when the car was damaged and all the repair work is performed by BMW NA. So damage was reported only in BMW disclosure and carfax was clean since carfx started reporting accident only after 1 year from the date of accident. But its hard to believe that they showed me carfax report that was one year old that did not show any damage and when I went to purchase the car now they had a newer carfax report that showed accident history and I signed it thinking its the same report that they showed me. So I have no where to go as I signed it . So please check thoroughly before buying cars from them or from personal experience please avoid buying cars from them . Hopefully somebody will teach these crooks a lesson one day. read more

I went in to test drive an Audi Q7. I was able to drive the vehicle with a nice salesman while the owner looked at my VW, which was a four year old Passat on trade. When I got back from test drive, the owner accused me of having body work done on the passenger side of the vehicle and made me feel like I was covering up something. I told him that I had Delta Sonic wax my car the weekend before along with a showroom detailing. I wanted the car to look pristine while having it looked over by any dealers for trade. He was visibly annoyed with me and completely showed no interest in dealing with me. I felt awkward and I almost felt bad for the salesman who went on the test drive with me because he seemed to empathize with me. A few days later I called to tell him that my wife and I went over to John Holtz and picked up an BMW for a bit more and quite frankly, it was worth it just for the pleasant experience and customer service. When any patients and I discuss cars, I tell people to steer clear of Sutherland based on my personal experience and opinion. Perhaps, they're easier to deal with if no trade is involved. I bought a car in 2011 and wasn't told it is in a major accident. I didn't know this until I looked into a new car and they gave me the real carfax on my car and went through it with me, title wipe and all. Do not buy from them or demand a full carfax report and go through ALL the paper work with them. I didn't realize they gave me a 'notice of disclosure' that they signed but I didn't when I bought the car. read more

I have been a customer at Sutherland for almost 20 years, including service work and purchase of 4 late model used cars (plus an old one for my son shortly after he got his license). They have always been fair and honest including recommending not doing work sometimes when I thought maybe it was needed. They have always disclosed detailed history of the cars I've bought and the price was always reasonable. In 2 of the cases the cars were mfr returns, but never had problems related to that (and the price was even better in those cases). read more

If I could give this car dealership zero stars I would! We purchased a 2006 BMW X5 from this dealership and within a week of our purchase the car started to have steering problems, brake problems and computer problems. I do have to mention that they told us that the brakes were replaced prior to us taking it home, this was not true at all, they were more like cleaned of brake dust! We brought the car back 7 times to be corrected because it was part of the "warranty" they gave us and each time the car was fine for a week, maybe 3 weeks and then the same problems began again. We have since brought the car to our own mechanic, put all new brakes on, replaced a steering pump, computer module and $2000 dollars later the car is 100% fixed and now safe to drive with my family in it. I would never recommend this car dealership to anyone at all! They have terrible customer service, terrible management over their mechanics and do not do business honestly! Very upset and if I thought it would get me anywhere I would bring them to small claims court to recoup my monies, but the fact that they are dishonest just shows me that too would be a waste of time! read more

FIrst off for anyone that goes in to buy a used car BMW or otherwise and does not do research on values and accident reports etc can only blame themselves. I have done extensive research and the vehicle I bought from them is immaculate and has a clean title .. why ... even though they showed me the car fax I had run my own and an additional 3 reports on the VIN and everything came up perfect. I also took the car to my mechanic so that he can do a thorough check on the car and again everything came up perfect. Now on the price again did my research and they are pretty much on par with True Values for their BMWs and anyone who doesn't negotiate again can only blame themselves. I took the car for a test drive by myself neither salesperson accompanied me. As far as any snobby attitudes I can say that my local dealer has that attitude reason as to why i did not buy from them. It comes down to this you have to do your research on any vehicle new or used and more so for used that you buy whether it is from them or any other dealer .. just my .02 but I will say I was very happy with my purchase and more importantly I never felt rushed or pushed by them . read more
