THE SUTHERLANDS Chicago Sports bar Chock full of TV's with every possible sport/game. It's loud! All the guys pitching in their 2 cents on the play! We've been coming to this place for a few year now, and ever since we discovered the Portage Park Tatter Tots, we can't get enough! Best loaded tots to be had for miles! Decent prices, pretty big food menu for a little sports bar, and heavy pours on the drinks (buyer be warned!). The Pear Martini is my absolute favorite! A must-try for sure. The patio is very nice and sits across from the park, which makes people watching very enjoyable. A little loud if you sit inside, and pretty dark as well. If you can snag a table outside or in the open front glass wall, do it! Overall, a great summer/fall neighborhood bar. Will be coming back as long as we are in the area. read more

I like this place, solid menu, good drink selection (bourbon, whiskey, Vodka, Tequila and beers) and the staff is always friendly!

While I love their food and know every restaurant has raised their prices, this place is ridiculous! They not only raised all their prices, but they round up. They also cheat you when their cash register add up their items. I bought two menu items and a beer that shouldn't added up to $44.25, but the addition appeared as $44.45 Now, I know that twenty cents is not a lot of money, but just imagine this happening to everyone that goes there! It adds up in the restaurants favor. This was the sub total and the tax was not added yet. Sandwich : $19.00 Cheese burger: $21.00 Beer: $4.25 = $44.45 should've been $44.25 Add Tax: $4.30 = $48.75 (according to them) I can only imagine how many people, that are drinking liquor, are scammed. By the way, this was a receipt added up by their cash register, not manually added. (Must be programmed). The server explained, that they have signs that inform its customers that they round up every purchase, but I don't understand their idea of, or need to the rounding up. They should get rid of the rounding up practice and just charge what they are supposed to charge!! read more

Really enjoyed eating here and will definitely be back. I'd tried their sister restaurant Crawfords first, and while I was a bigger fan of Crawford's menu and creativity, there's no lack of great options here at Sutherland's too. The burger with the merkts cheddar is pretty much perfect, and it travels well too in case you want to take it to go. The fries are PERFECT pub fries and the best companion for a burger like this. The salads looked pretty good, although on the pricier end for a salad, but it is a pub that has actual salads so I guess I can't complain too much. The bill overall was a little more than I was expecting, but the food was great and there was a nice beer selection. Also coke, not pepsi. Sutherland's is the motherland of sports bars in Portage Park. The place is filled with tv's, and the crowd is there for the games. This place is packed all the time. The servers are quick and responsive, and the drinks are made well. I'll have to try the food on the next game day. read more

This place is great if you want to sit next to your grandpa. The bartender was an older woman who had no bra on and one button on her sweater. At 1pm I couldn't get out of here fast enough. Ok so this bar looks amazing and when you drive by you see a ton of people hanging out having a good time.... that's about it! I waited 28 minutes for a server to come to my table. When they finally came it still took another 17 minutes to get a beer. During that time the manager or owner (middle aged, bald, heavy set, European guy) came out to have a smoke and didn't bother to help anyone out. He sees everyone with empty tables or drinks. When you do get food here it's usually pretty good. Service is horrendous! read more

First time customer. I called in an order for pick-up. The portage Park Fries, some Chicken Wings and the bean burger. I wanted to know if the Wings were full wings or wing pieces. After some back and forth, and a description of a full chicken wing. It seems the staff , nor the cook, knows the difference between a full wing and wing pieces. They just kept telling me jumbo wings, and I insisted on knowing if they were full wings or pieces. I don't care one way or the other, but ordering wing pieces means I order more wings. They finally said they were serving full chicken wings. That was a lie, they serve wing pieces. Well I paid the price for asking questions and demanding an answer. Those chicken wings were so over cooked that there was barely any tender chicken on those wing pieces. I threw away most of them. The Portage Park fries were undercooked and I had to throw those away as well. The food was terrible. Im told the bean burger was good. The dinner was a waste of money. read more

Nicely decorated bar which maintains a nice, new-looking appearance. I love that their bar is long, like 16 seats deep kinda long. The chairs are high chairs with a step for my lazy dogs and a hook by your knees for the ol'lady's bag or some other crap we might be shlepping. My first visit was based solely on looks. In the past week whilst driving past, the place was crowded with smiles. I made a mental note to check it out on some random evening. On my first visit out my date mentioned rave reviews from her gal pal. I guess this is where she'll grab a tasty bite, some good drinks and (maybe) a make out session with a random patron. On a recent occasion I wanted to bar trip down Irving Park road and this was our first stop. We enjoyed a couple seasonal brews, light appetizers and then jetted onto our next bar stop. Regarding service, our waiter could have been more inviting and checked on us more often. The place was bustling with Blackhawk's fans hooting and hollering. I would bet that many were "regulars" and our waiter was merely "shooting the shit" a little too long with her regulars. read more

This is my favorite style of bar where they open up the front of the building to the outside, but you can sit inside. That way you enjoy the breeze and the view, but have the comfort of being able to sit inside. They have a full menu of food items and a full liquor bar. I had the burger bites (3 mini burgers). When they came, they looked very small and I wished I'd ordered fries to go with them. But looks were deceiving. By the time I'd finished all three I was more than satisfied. My buddy and I sat at the bar and Kylie and Presley constantly came by to check on our drinks and ask about the food. All in all I find nothing I don't like about this place, other than it's not located in my neighborhood within walking distance of my place. read more

A great neighborhood bar and grill. There's a lot here to like. The beer selection is quite good and they have a pretty good number on tap. The menu is familiar bar food type but with a difference - that being it's very tasty and not your typical bar fare in taste. For example, I ordered the steak sandwich and it turned out not to be thinly sliced slivers of cheap steak but some really good chunks of steak on a fabulous bun. Imagine my surprise!! I wolfed it down in short order. My wife's chicken sandwich had many non traditional options on sauces and she was a huge fan. We consider this spot a winner after just one visit. Good selection of beers with reasonable prices, wine & cocktail selections were decent for a neighborhood pub. My hubby ordered the steak sandwich which had an exceptional bun and really good flavor. I love a good bar chicken sandwich & they offered options of barbecue, Buffalo or teriyaki sauces on either a pretzel, ciabatta or brioche bun. Hello...it's like I designed the menu! This is a welcomed edition to the neighborhood. A friendly, casual place to get a beer and/or a quick meal. The food is your typical bar fare, nothing too fancy, but certainly a step up from Fast Food. The menu use to have more options but I suspect economics has guided a reduction in choices. I think they only real drawback is the smoking area is much too close to the outdoor seating section. You know that old joke about the nonpeeing section of a swimming pool....On a breezy Chicago day (aka every day) the smoke whiffs your way. read more

This place definitely has a nice atmosphere. Went here the other night. Sat outside. Very nice. Large crowd. Bigger than it looks. My girlfriend had the loaded nachos w/chicken(had to add the meat). They were very good. However, not enough chicken. I had the mini burgers and tots. Burgers were great! Loved the tots. With the crowd they had, I felt like they definitely needed more servers.
