First time here, but definitely will be back. Bar area has a friendly hang out vibe but plenty of dining tables and high tops for eating. Portion was good. On my way to airport and met up with a friend halfway. Parking was interesting but not difficult on the main Street. Had a burger before boarding the plane which was prob too greasy and filling. but tasted good and stole some of my friend's fries and it was good as well. I'm giving an overall review here based on 4-5 visits. First of all, great beer selection and there's always something for everyone. You want a sweeter beer? They've got it. Hazy? Got it. Boozy? Check. No complaints there. Most of their food is pretty good. Went yesterday and had their nachos which were great. Unfortunately their mac of the month sounded good before we got it. Mac and cheese with mushrooms and bacon sounds great. But when we got it, it not only didn't look good it was just weird and they really missed the boat with it. They added blue cheese to it for some reason which threw off the taste, had raw tomatoes on it which added to an already way too liquidy sauce, and the pasta was way overdone. It's a shame because their pimento mac with breadcrumb crust is great. I feel like they just tried to get too fancy with that one and also forgot that if you add piping hot sauce to done pasta, it keeps cooking it. That said, service was very good and we will come back...but we will be wary of the mac of the month. read more

My lovely wife and I are fans of Old Irving Brewing, and I know we have cans of their Beezer beer in our fridge as I write this. With the demise of local breweries closing left and right, we are glad that OIB is surviving and thriving. We recently came for Happy Hour with our friends. Currently HH is Monday-Thursday between 2-5PM. A craft beer for $5 is not too shabby. The cheese curds are dynamite - get this and your taste buds will thank you! My friend and I were fortunate to get two seats at the bar because this place was packed at 6:00pm on the Friday we went. But after settling in, the bartender took care of us, and I very much appreciated the $5 pints on special because most things seemed to cost a few bucks more than it needed to. The Brussels sprouts appetizer was worth it, though. The mac and cheese, even with bacon added, topped out at okay. If I lived nearby, I would definitely visit OIB at least once per week! For now, I'm settling for a branded t-shirt and fond memories. At 4pm on a weekday it was already bustling, and this place is popular for good reason! The entire vibe and the staff are just super cool. Even the bathrooms are an experience, with heavy metal music blasting in a way that just adds to the unique charm. To drink, I tried the lucky linny and blood orange sour, which were both fantastic. I'm not typically a huge beer person, but after this visit I'm well on my way to crossing to the other side. For the appetizer, we split the cheese curds. I really liked the Korean inspired twist and the kimchi aioli served alongside. I think it could've used a little more salt and arrived warmer for a nice cheese pull, but otherwise it was enjoyable. I opted for the double cheeseburger as the main event, and it was really well done. The beef was juicy, perfectly cooked, with ample high quality cheese and caramelized onions. Stopped in on a Saturday at noon and there was no wait. Plenty of seating in the section next to the bar. By 1pm the place was pretty full. Came for just the food after going to the Balloon Museum. Started with the fried zucchini. Zucchini was shaved thin and had a pretty crispy breading. There was a nice touch of lemon that added a brightness and a hollandaise sauce. I wasn't sure if the sauce had broke but there was quit e a bit of oil on the plate. The sauce broke as it was quite oily underneath. Overall was pretty tasty but the large amount of oil underneath was not the best. For entree ordered the burger of the week. It had I believe pimento cheese, Giardiniera, crispy onion and tomato. The burger was cooked to my ordered temp and the patty was large. The patty was very juicy, the brioche bun was buttery and the cheese and giardiniera added a little heat. Was a great tasting burger. The fries were breaded and were crispy with a nice garlic flavor. I usually don't like breaded fries but these had a nice crisp to them and the garlic flavor was great. The burger here was great and the portion size was big as well. There is street parking in front, inside was nice and spacious and they are kid friendly. read more

Subpar service. I acknowledge that this is a busier than usual Friday because it's a long weekend for a lot of people. There's one bartender designated behind a bar for serving bar, seated customers and fulfilling drinks for waited tables. Because of this, it took more than seven minutes for me to get my check, which I had to yell across the bar to get his attention after waiting that long. I know it was that long because I was watching the bus tracker. Also, I got asked if I wanted fries a salad or mac & cheese with my order and I was not informed that the salad or mac & cheese would be an up charge. The beet salad didn't disappoint AT ALL. Really wasn't expecting there to be that much if it lol. But very bite was so refreshing and packed with a great combination of flavors. I've come back so many times now and every time I come back, I want to visit more frequently than I do. The cocktails are great, the food is amazing, and the beer is great. I only say the beer isn't amazing out of spite because they don't brew my favorite beer of theirs anymore (Undergrowth), but they had a couple really cool winter beers - the spruce one especially was great. But the food is so consistently good, the menu is diverse yet somehow it all feels very Old Irving and it's all delicious, leaving you with some really difficult decisions as to what to eat. Only downside is they're always busy. Definitely expect to wait to get a table. The good news is that there's a fair amount of space to stand and drink while you wait. It's rapidly become one of our go-to options. read more

Came here off the blue line before the Cubs game. If I lived here this would be a go to spot. Beer was great, food was excellent, the service was phenomenal. Nothing to complain about. Bathrooms were even clean. I had the brisket tacos - which didn't spare the brisket and were super flavorful. My brother got the fish and chips with a salad (only $1 upcharge). Absolutely loved this brewery! They were slammed since we went there on a NFL playoff Saturday but waited at the bar and got a couple of drinks. We tried Old Irving for lunch one Friday afternoon. We arrived just as they opened along with several other patrons. It was exciting to see that they are liked well enough that people were lining up to get in! The down side of this, was the staff member at the front desk had to seat each and everyone one of us. He didn't ask our preference, and started in the back of the big dining room and worked his way up...all while not making eye contact or speaking to anyone. It felt a little odd and cold. The seating is also tight. Next time I think we will opt for bar seating. I loved our sever though! He was so sweet, made suggestions, and he genuinely made me laugh several time. Such a sweet soul. The food menu has so many interesting choices. We choice the burger special, and it was ok. It was a $19 burger, and I didn't think that it was anything to write home about. The beers did not disappoint. My favorite was the cushy mango peach fruited sour. I liked in so much that I've since bought a four pack. They have an excellent selection of beers with the Beezer being their staple. It was excellent and also tried their Cushy Mango Peach which was fruity and refreshing. The food here should not be skipped either. I went with the wings and the have an eclectic mix of sauces and rubs. I went with the umami and Ghost Pepper Agave. The garlic fries and beer barttered cheese curds were delicious. In the future I'd like to try a full meal as their menu looked good! The beers I got were Beezer and Cushy Island. Both super fresh and delicious. We went on a Friday around 4pm and were able to find parking on a side street, but sections of Montrose are free at this time too. read more

This is one of the great breweries for food (and the beer isn't bad either). The vegetarian options are good, with the ZLTA being the star. They also have rotating burger and wing specials. Generally when you visit a brewery you can pick a spot that has good beer and just ok food, or great food and just ok beer. Old Irving has great beer AND great food. We sampled a few items off their menu and found everything to be cooked amazing. Unfortunately I only snapped a pic of the cheese curds, but they are a must order. Beers here are very solid. Beezer is a must order for any hazy ipa fan. Their barrel program is also quite good. I had a BA barleywine that was amazing. The reverie rye was a really clean and bitter pale ale with a hint of rye spice. Pretty cool space inside with a full bar if beer isn't your thing, but they are brewing (and cooking) up some great stuff here! read more

This place is larger than it seems! Heard good things about their burger and happened to be within the general area and wanted to give them a try. We beat the dinner rush and yet there was still a wait - which we took to be a good sign. We waited at this bench which had giant pillows to rest your back on which were really comfortable. They could probably turn that into seating instead of a waiting area. The immediate bar area feels like a bar but the backroom had a much larger seating area that was comfortable for larger parties and those with kids. Once seated service was excellent and the food very good. The cocktails veered on strong but were otherwise tasty. The beer was tasty and also as described. And the food surprised us in a good way. The burger came with a skewer flagging our requested temperature and was reportedly tasty. The reuben balls were perfectly fried. This bread bowl soup of roasted cauliflower might cause me to reconsider my relationship with cauliflower. Although my shrimp were overcooked on my skewers the steak bits were some of the best medium rare pieces of beef I've had this year. If I was forced to choose between overcooked shrimp or undercooked beef I would've made the same call - hopefully they let them just cook on separate skewers next time. I would try their steak entrée next time without a second thought given what I ate. The fudge brownie special had buttercream on top instead of ice cream which was definitely different but I'm not sure if better. If you're in the area definitely swing by if there isn't a large line already! read more
