    Progressive urgent care did what one of the other big name hospitals in town couldn't do …read more I went to their urgent care for extreme vertigo. They sent me over to the ER via ambulance to test me to see if I had a brain bleed - 12 hours later they sent me home with medication for the vertigo and not for the actual cause- an ear infection . The doctor was dismissive . Actually, more than dismissive he was disrespectful and acted like I was wasting his time. Sent me home with anti-vert and Zofran and no antibiotics for the ear infection ....I get it. I'm healthcare, professional and I actually work in ER. But I know since It's an ER and you don't go there for a broken toe or an earache, but the vertigo was so bad I couldn't walk. So the other name brand urgent care sent me to the ER via ambulance. They did a CT scan to check for a brain bleed and all my labs were done and nothing came back irregular. I will say they were thorough in that. I kept having increasing ear pain and vertigo and nausea , in the couple of days after, and the medication was not helping, but when I tried to go back to my urgent care they wouldn't see me because it's "their policy" and I had to to go back to ER. So I could wait another 12 hours? (Again, I avoid ER as much as I can, even though this is affected my ability to drive or to do things around the house; even being able to take a shower- it isn't life-threatening which is what you go to an ER for ; you go there for example, when your guts are falling out on the floor.) I did a quick search for other urgent cares. Progressive was close by and I've had friends that have been there and very happy with their care. I was in and out in less than 45 minutes with the correct diagnosis of a severe ear infection that was the cause of the vertigo and given antibiotic and decongestants to help treat the issue . I felt like I was listened to. They took the time with me explained their findings we agreed in treatment plan and now I'm feeling better. As I said, before I work in healthcare and I know good care when I see it and sometimes bigger companies have policies that they have to adhere to and I understand that, but it was very very happy with the care I got from Progressive.

My first admission was for a surgical procedure, my second was for a saddle pulmonary embolism and my third was for an UTI. I have had a number of procedures through the years at numerous hospitals, and I have to say that Sutter Memorial Modesto was one of the better experiences I've had with any of them. The staff was extremely professional and very compassionate. My time was spent divided between stays in the surgical unit 5th floor North Tower, ICU and telemetry. My surgeon was awesome (Dr. Corin). All of the hospitalists that I encountered were very professional and compassionate and the nursing staff was very competent and caring. Both the physical therapy personnel and the respiratory therapy personnel were very kind and patient with me during my recovery from the pulmonary embolism and pneumonia. The only thing that kept me from giving Sutter Memorial Modesto, a five star rating is the food. Maybe I was just there too long, but I realized quickly that the rotation of offerings to the patients was very limited as I began seeing the same dishes again and again and many of them were not very good. But it just made me want to get well quicker and go home, so maybe that is part of your plan! Thank you all for being a part in saving my life! Richard Williams

    I was recently admitted to Sutter Memorial after an ER visit for a broken leg. Surgery was required…read moreto properly set the bone. I want to begin by saying that the medical teams who treated my injury were exceptional--ER staff, the surgeon, anesthesiologist, surgical team, and floor nurses all provided excellent care and bedside manner. Unfortunately, the case management and administrative follow‑up were the opposite: disorganized, dismissive, and lacking compassion. After the case manager's third visit, I requested reassignment because of repeated issues. During her first visit--less than a day after surgery and my first PT session--she abruptly announced she was ordering equipment. I had already discussed choosing a wheelchair with PT (insurance covers only one item), but when I tried to explain this, she cut me off and repeated, "Insurance will only cover one." When I attempted to tell her about the steps at my home and the need for a ramp, she again interrupted and said, "Insurance won't cover that, you're on your own," offering no resources or guidance. Later, while I was on the phone trying to locate a ramp myself, she stood in my room sighing and rolling her eyes. She then told me I had been discharged--even though my nurse had just started an IV for low vitamin levels, I still had two doses left, the equipment she ordered hadn't arrived, and I still had no safe way to enter my home. When she asked if I had walked yet, I reminded her I was non‑weight‑bearing for at least two months. She then asked if I had Medicare, which I do not--another sign she hadn't reviewed my chart. I told her directly that her approach felt rude, rushed, and unsafe, and asked for a different case manager. Hours later, I learned the pharmacy couldn't fill my medication because it required prior authorization. When I called the operator asking for a patient advocate, I was transferred to a non‑working extension. After calling back and explaining the urgency, I was sent to the second case manager. She cut me off immediately, said she had "just received the information," and submitted the authorization but refused to follow up to ensure it went through. When I mentioned that home health also lacked prior authorization, she admitted it hadn't been done yet. She did not address my concerns about the first case manager and abruptly ended the call. In the days since, I have repeatedly tried to reach a patient advocate. Neither the hospital operator nor the main Sutter line could provide a working number. When the operator attempted to transfer me to her manager, the call went to voicemail and disconnected mid‑message. The medical teams make Sutter look excellent, but case management and administrative systems make patients feel abandoned. These failures matter--especially when patients are in pain, scared, and relying on the hospital to ensure safe discharge planning. When healthcare systems make it this difficult to advocate for ourselves, it discourages people from seeking care at all. Sutter needs to do better. Kaiser, in my experience, is far ahead in efficiency and patient support. As one example, I was told it would take five months to see an endocrinologist for a serious genetic condition--whereas with Kaiser, specialist appointments took only a few days.

My only complaint is the provider. I'm not sure if he is an NP or MD but regardless, both times we saw him for our toddler he just seemed irritated. He seems very detached and annoyed, like children bother him or something. Our toddler is very well behaved but obviously he's sick and not feeling well so of course he's going to scream and cry. The provider doesn't seem to enjoy his job at all. He also made a comment the first time that rubbed me the wrong way. Additionally, the staff had informed us that only 1 guardian could be present in the room with our child, "per provider preference." What's wrong with having both the mom and dad present if it can be helpful? That's just weird. Having said that, I appreciate that he sends in the prescription in a timely manner, so that's positive.

Girl up front was rude using hand gestures like she is talking to her enemy speaking very sarcastic. I understand it's a holiday just be up front and don't tell me to come down. I would not of came if it wasn't an urgency.

However, we just had a horrible experience here when we had to bring our son in. Truth be told, we had to bring our son in last minute. He woke up with a fever and we had to get him in somewhere fast, as we suspected it was an ear infection. We get there at 4:40, and are "greeted" by an insanely rude employee saying nothing except "We're done here" in what I would consider a pretty aggressive tone. Not a "hi, I'm sorry we're closing down, but here are some other options for you.." or anything somewhat pleasant. And again, I recognize this is very last minute but the hours of operation state that they're open until 5, and we didn't have a lot of options (other than an emergency room which is not going to be our best option for ear infection.) if you're going to close at 4:30, that should be your posted hours! It's insane to expect people to just know when you decide to close up shop if it's not outside of the posted hours. And I could forgive that, and even maybe understand, if the employee wasn't so extremely disrespectful and crass. Unfortunately we just won't be returning here because honestly I don't have enough grace left in me to interact with that employee again. Sad when what was once a great business can be ruined by one horrible employee.
