Five Stars for Northwoods Mechanical - Elite Craftsmanship & True Integrity…read more As a homeowner navigating a replacement claim through Choice Home Warranty, I cannot praise Northwoods Mechanical enough. Home warranty claims are notoriously difficult, bogged down by corporate red tape and confusing customer service runarounds. Over 90% of negative reviews are Home Warranty claims. That says more about the warranty companies than it does about the technicians. It is incredibly unfair when exceptional local contractors get their public ratings dragged down by a warranty company's internal system hurdles. If you see a negative review here related to a warranty claim, know that it most often reflects the insurance company's administrative delays and demands, not the stellar quality of Northwoods Mechanical. From the very first assessment visit, this team proved to be independent professionals of the highest caliber. My initial contact was with Ryan, who is an absolute master of customer communication. Ryan navigated a difficult warranty claim with Choice Home Warranty with precision and determination to achieve the best possible outcome, for which I am deeply grateful. Ryan arrived to analyze our home's footprint, listened to our needs, and outlined the mechanical requirements with perfect transparency and a warm, engaging demeanor. He completely prioritizes the customer's actual needs rather than pushing a high-pressure pitch, setting a wonderful upfront tone that immediately puts you at ease. On another note: All my phone conversations with both Ryan and Josh have been respectful, informative and helpful. Because Ryan is such an exceptional communicator, I think some customers mistakenly expect that same "friendly, informative" energy when the installation crew arrives. On installation day, I met Josh. Josh is intensely focused on analyzing and prioritizing the work that needs to be completed. He isn't there to engage in empty sales chatter; he is on-site to handle heavy physical and technical labor, guide his apprentice, and manage a non-stop barrage of operational field calls all while down in the trenches. When given the quiet space to respect his trade, Josh is incredibly friendly, respectful, and genuinely engaging. He is a dedicated, hard-working technician with Northwood Mechanical that our community should be supporting. Both Ryan and Josh are highly-skilled and educated in the HVAC trade. They didn't hesitate to thoroughly answer any questions I had. The installation itself was highly complex, requiring meticulous work inside a tight crawl space foundation to mount a new horizontal cased coil. The ultimate test of their character happened toward the end of the job. An unexpected electrical component failed on our classic 34-year-old furnace, completely breaking the electrical circuit before the new AC could even start. Josh and his team didn't throw up their hands or walk away. They treated us like family. They immediately traced the wiring, sourced a modern upgraded ignition control module from a local distributor, and replaced the failed components to ensure our household was left safe and 100% operational. They honored their word and took complete ownership of the situation. The final result is a beautiful, whisper-quiet, cutting-edge cooling system that functions perfectly alongside our new Sensi smart thermostat. Our home is completely comfortable, and our second-floor bedrooms have never felt cooler. I give Northwoods Mechanical my absolute, highest unconditional recommendation. They are honest, incredibly skilled, and possess an elite level of small-business integrity!

The young man who came out was nice enough, but somehow Select Home Warrantee rejected the claim. It appears that Select operates in a way to basically find reasons not to pay. Northwoods Mechanical on the next day sent me a quote of $1458.36 to replace the thermostat. A ridiculous price. The Better Business Bureau rates this company a D+. I cancelled my arrangement with Select. Beware of home warrantee companies. (This is consistent with what a representative from Northwood Mechanical told me over the phone.) If I believed in conspiracies, my experience would be the poster child for such.
